  • Another Smith-Chapin smackdown
Size: 1-(Pack)
I bought the Smith a little over a year ago when I got tired of switching my trusty Chapin cheepo from pesticide to herbicide and sometimes forgetting which was which. The tanks are very similar but I liked the look of this wand and tip. It seemed more robust than the Chapin...and for a while, it was. Full disclosure: I rarely follow procedure about emptying and cleaning the tank after every use, Once a year, after bug and weed season, yeah. So, I'm sure this doesn't help. I do clean the nozzles as needed, however, because that's always where my problem lies.- they start dribbling more than misting, and the Smith is no exception. At twice the cost of the Chapin, would throwing in an extra nozzle tip be out of the question? Or the both of you, at least make them widely available at a reasonable price? What to do with all the indestructible yet inoperable tanks, when it's cheaper to order the whole unit? Perhaps because my Chapin is 4 years old that its handle and twist-lock mechanism seem more effortless than the Smith, which will start unscrewing from the tank accidentally at times. I do like the longer wand length and trigger of the Smith, though I haven't used it with bleach or other chemicals. The ad copy gives the impression that it pressure cleans, but I don't know, maybe if applying the cleaning agent is cleaning. I just can't see the level of pressure being of much help in that scenario. [Note: 3 stars is not a bad review, necessarily It means "It's okay" , "Not bad", or "I don't DIS-like it." I'm too pessimistic to *start* anyone off with 5 Stars and deduct from there - more like the middle then can go either way.] ... show more

  • INEXPENSIVE HOME AND FARM SPRAYER THAT WILL NOT CORRODE
Size: 1-(Pack)
This is a very light weight, low cost, none rust accumulating, sprayer for around the house and farm. Most chemical bottle give you chemical amounts for one gallon of water. No need for math to figure out how much concentrated chemical to add. I have owner 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 gallon sprayers and some of the fellows don't know how to do the math when you get into half gallon increments. Many chemicals are corrosive and will NOT cause a problem in this sprayer (with one exception). The instructions with all these sprayers is to rinse and purge after each use (use fresh water and pressure spray plain water through the system). In my experience, at least 50% of the folks FAIL to follow this rule and leave a little bit of spray in the unit "for tomorrow" or they spray entire content and figure unit does not need to be rinsed out. The problem with this approach is that some of the chemicals will precipitate out and form chunks or flakes - the things that plug up your spray wand. In addition, the chemicals in the water and the ph, may affect the chemical concentrate and render it less viable (won't work). In the West where we have alkaline water, the ph of the water may negate or reduce the effectiveness of the diluted chemicals within hours. Bottom line, the stored chemical in the sprayer may not kill any bugs and will/may plug up your sprayer. So if you are not a professional exterminator, and don't want to spend $150 on a sprayer, this is your unit. I will not last forever, the droplet size will not be as fine in microns, and it won't "shoot" as far, but for most jobs, it will perform adequately. If it does stop working, you are not out a ton of money, you won't tearing down and replacing parts, and you can just go and buy another one. Simple maintenance will extend its life appreciably. I hope years of experience will assist buyers in purchasing decisions. Please click "Yes" below this line if this review was helpful to you. ... show more

  • Very Poor Quality
Size: 1-(Pack)
I've waited 2 years to write this review as it is VERY rare that I use this thing. Maybe 2-3 times a year, spraying a multipurpose bug/pest killer around my house. Looking back I wonder why I waited this long to review a product that was flawed from the start. The first issue I encountered was the trigger mechanism, its plastic in it's entirety, meaning its not very responsive... and by not very responsive, you might as well write a letter to it each time you want it to stop spraying. It takes 20-30 seconds to stop spraying after you've pressed it. Other than that it has no pressure release valve, which is kinda bad, considering the only way to relieve the pressure inside is to a: spray the entire contents of the container. B: unscrew the plunger and get a face full of whatever is inside. Which if its anything other than water generally isn't going to be a pleasant experience. 2 Years have passed since I purchased this, using it maybe 10 times in total, for a combined maybe 4-5 hours.. It has now seized up and constantly sprays at full power. making it entirely useless. When I purchased this it was the "best Selling" sprayer on Amazon, perhaps a cautionary tale about not following the herd is relevant here... But I digress... Tl;Dr: Purchase a different brand ... show more
