okay... this was an impulse buy after being fed up with a common branded toaster that never worked too great. i was aware of the SMEG brand of large appliances from time in europe, and i like their design ethic, though the products are relatively expensive. well, let me tell you... this is one great toaster. it toasts a bit slowly, gently, but the toast is perfection. so many settings, a "defrost" cycle, and a "toast one side only" feature that i didn't know how badly i needed, for bagels, english muffins, etc. the lowering mechanism feels as solid and true as steel, and the outside stays nice and cool. fit and finish is impeccable. i realize that this all sounds a bit rapturous for a toaster, but the SMEG is a very high-quality product at this price. hard to imagine a better toaster.

I bought the Smeg 4-slice toaster as a bundle with the coffee maker and electric water kettle, in January 2020. A week ago(june 21), the toaster blew my circuit and just stopped working altogether. I called the Smeg Technical Support listet in the paperwork it came with. He said "Yup, it's toast - no pun intended. Not repairable. You need to contact Smeg at [email protected] with an inquiry." So I did, and received an email from J.Victory who is a sales manager. She asked me to call their customer service hotline. Oh well, this guy took customer service to a whole other level. Very rude and pretty much laughed at my ridiculous request for some kind of help "Warranty is 1 year, lady! Whaddaya calling me for? Haha. Nothing I can do for ya". He did offer- if I REALLY insisted, to send me over "a pile of paperwork to make a request. But don't expect a favorable outcome. And it will take a long time". Pretty much, don't bother! I don't think a $220 toaster should only last for 18 months, but sometimes stuff happens. I'm not going to declare Smeg a bad product based on this one experience only. After all, the other two products are still working! However, the treatment I got from their customer service will make me NEVER buy another Smeg again. And my experience will naturally be shared with everyone I know. JUST SO VERY SAD!

The toaster works very well by evenly toasting bread on both sides. It’s stylish and well made. We’ve only had this for a month and it seems to work very well. Terrific colors abound for this eye catching item.

I'm really enjoying my new SMEG toaster. It makes perfect toast. I used to put my toaster away every day after use, but this toaster is so stunning that I leave it on the counter. Some reviews have mentioned issues with burning or it ejecting the toast too strongly, but I have not had any issues whatsoever. I love the long slots, which allow me to make sourdough toast. Any irregular piece of bread will fit in this toaster. Highly recommend!

Keep the box and all the wrappings...our VERY expensive Smeg lasted maybe two days. I envy the people who somehow bought a perfectly working Smeg. I loved the look, in fact, I loved the fact that it seemed like it was 'less' electronics. Really, I thought Smeg must be top-of-the-line with the $200 price tag. Although we never used the bagel setting that only toasts on one side, that's exactly what our toaster seemed to be doing most of the time. We thought we were doing something wrong, and actually I was hoping the toaster might just start working (yeah right), so we toasted an array of bread - white, whole wheat, and sourdough. Sometimes it toasted on all sides, but mostly on only one side. If we turned the knob for a darker toast for the whole wheat bread, it seemed to brown even less. We just ordered the not-quite-as-expensive Breville (but lots of electronics) AND the $36 4-year protection plan. It's kind of sad to think I need to buy a protection plan because I have no faith that a very expensive toaster is going to last even three years, certainly not four years...maybe not even two. I will certainly review the Breville when it arrives.
