I don't like the taste of fish oil, but it's good for us. SO when I saw this took a leap of faith. Even kids will like this. I take about 1/2 the dose to make it last longer. I think I feel better. I say that because under a lot of stress am holding up well.

I never write product reviews unless I need to warn people how crappy something was or I’m evangelizing about how it changed my life. In this case, it’s number 2, and while we’re on the subject, these have changed my life. I wouldn’t say I have a terrible diet. In fact I *try* to eat pretty healthy, but if we’re being honest sometimes I don’t even look at a vegetable for days, and I’m always dehydrated. I also travel a lot for work which is terrible for your body knowing when it’s time to go. I went from being stuck at least half the week to going twice a day LIKE CLOCKWORK. Now I know why they call it “staying regular”. Concept was totally lost on me before now. PRO TIPS: (1) When you first start taking these vitamins your innards will freak out about how much fiber you’re ingesting. Read: gas pain, bloating, extreme discomfort. Unless you’ve been training with a bowl of Raisin Bran and brussel sprouts every day, a healthy dose of fiber will do that to anyone. Start off with the 3 gummies a day as recommended until that stops being uncomfortable, then up it to 6. But here’s the trick: NOT ALL AT ONCE. I take 3 in the morning when I get up, and another 3 before bed at night to spread out the fiber (before teeth brushing, they’re sticky little buggers). No more gas pain. (2) For whatever reason Smarty Pants has not upgraded the infuriatingly narrow mouth on these bottles. The vitamins stick together and you have to fish them out with a fork or whatever implement available, and the cap must not seal tightly because the gummies do get stale after a few weeks. I bought one of these wide mouth glass jars from Ikea with a rubber gasket ‘round the lid and I dump all the gummies in there as soon as I open them. They’re much easier to get out when they’re fresh, and they STAY fresh in the jar with a good seal. I can pluck three out at a time with ease and go back to my happy craps. For travel, I dump a few in a reusable silicon bag. In conclusion: Yes there is an adjustment period of discomfort to incorporate fiber into your diet, but really though, how uncomfortable was being constipated all the time? Yes, the packaging sucks, but that was an easy fix with a one-time $6 investment in a good jar. And YES they are ~$30 a month, but can you really put a price on poops this good? ... show more

    • Too Sour For My Taste and Pricey, But Some Flavors Still Tasty and Nutritious

I had been looking for vitamin gummy bears so I can have a healthy snack and curb my daily sugar intake. I came across Smarty Pants on Amazon. Altruistic, the manufacturer of this product makes the product in the U.S. and gives back to help malnourished kids. I was also very happy about the added omega-3 these vitamin gummies have. This means I do not have to eat additional fish oil gels, which are pretty costly. But even with Omega-3s, my first issue with these vitamins is the price. At about $18-20 for a month's supply (each bottle contains 180 gummies, and the adult dosage is six gummies per day), these easily cost more than regular vitamins and also more than gummy vitamin bears, even taking into account supplmenting other vitamins/gummies with fish oil gels. My other gripe is the sourness of these gummies. They're on the Sour Path Kids candy side of sour. If you've had Sour Patch Kids, you'll know what I'm talking about--these vitamin gummies have a sprinkled layer of cane sugar on top of the sour gummy. If you've never had Sour Patch Kids before, try some of the candy before you shell out $20 for a huge bottle of Smarty Pants gummies and see if you like the taste. These vitamins, however, are a BOON for those who love Sour Patch Kids. I used to like Sour Patch when I was a kid, but they're just too acidic for me now, and the taste of these Smarty Pants gummies are too sour for me. They're not pucker your cheeks sour, but they're almost there because they make my mouth water due to the acidity. This may be due to the Vitamin C in these gummies, but it's just too much to chew for me. Finally, these vitamins also lack calcium, so some, especially women, may need to supplement calcium intake. If you drink plenty of milk and eat lots of calcium rich/fortified foods, you're probably fine. Bottom line: if you need calcium, prepare to supplement these Smarty Pants gummies with calcium; if you don't like anything too acidic or sour, stay away; and if you can afford $20 a month for these then Smarty Pants gummies is probably the best way for you to get your vitamins! ... show more
