My internet provider recently upgraded me to a new router, which is technically a much better model, but the new model operates on a 'random' 2.4 or 5 Ghz frequency. According to my provider, it 'automatically detects when to switch between the 2.4 and 5'. I find this somewhat interesting, as I always believed the difference between the two is that 2.4 is slower speed but much better range, 5 is super fast, but shorter distance. How on earth is the router going to know when I need to switch between those two? I have a relatively large property , I'm not a real high-speed junky and therefore prefer 2.4, so I can connect devices at a bigger distance. But maybe it will all work in the end. Problem I have though... is that most of my smart plugs are only capable of working on the 2.4 bandwidth. And as the default preferred mode of the new router seems to be 5Ghz, I simply cannot connect them anymore, as there is no way to 'fix' the bandwidth anymore. This is where these 'Eightree Smart Plug for 5GHz & 2.4GH' come in. After a bit of research, I learned that a lot of 'similar' (and cheaper!) plugs don't actually use WiFi, but Bluetooth. Which is great for short distances. But average bluetooth range is somewhere around 33 feet. Not a lot, especially if you factor in walls and other obstructions. And certainly not enough for my situation. So if you're looking for a true WiFi option, there's just not that many options out there, unless you want to invest serious money. But these plugs are true Wifi, can handle both 2.4 and 5 Ghz and are really not that expensive. One more selling point: ease of installation. Wow. Really wow. Maybe it's because I already had the Smart Life app installed (and am very familiar with how it works). But all I had to do: 1) Plug in the smart plug into an outlet 2) Open up the Smart Life app 3) Confirm the new device. The app and plug automatically recognized each other without any interaction from me. Love these plugs. Defo recco to buy. Now I just would love for 5Ghz to extend its range!! Come on clever folks out there, you can do this! :-)

Yes!! The old ones just didn’t wanna stay connected (2.4GHz only). And some of them refused to show up in the app at all. These new ones just popped up in the app right away, even before I tapped “add new device”. As soon as one was plugged in, the app asked if I wanted to add it, and it was added within seconds. They also seem to hold on to the connection so when I launch the app, they are not taking forever to connect like the old ones did. Also they are smaller, so they don’t need much space.

Easy to program!!!! So far so good! I do have one plug that for some reason is offline. We recently had a power outage which may have affected the plug. Just haven’t had a chance to re-program it which hugely will fix it. The other 3 have continue to work fine.

Smartlife Application has a lot of ads for other products but it was Easy to connect and customize the name for each of the 4 plugs and add it to Alexa as a skill for voice control. No issues connecting to my 5 GHz band Wi-Fi over Starlink mini router. Alexa voice control works great. Also works with Google and Siri as well as from the Smartlife Application. I have one plug in my Garage where I don't have an Alexa device yet for voice control but I can use the Smartlife Application on my phone until I get another Echo device for the Garage. Also works on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band if needed but so far everything around my 2,100 square foot house is reached by the 5 GHz band. I haven't tested the timer functionality yet.

Got these as a replacement for 2 Kasa Smart Plugs Ultra Mini that stopped working after 6 months. These were the easiest setup up ever! Had them up, running and connected to Alexa in no time. Hoping they last longer than the Kasa plugs.

I purchased three of these (first one, then two more) to replace my Amazon Smart Plugs. The Amazon Smart Plugs were reliable, but they only work on 2.4ghz and were regularly losing their connections to my Eero network whenever my Eero network did a software update. So far, these have maintained their connections and worked reliably through two Eero updates. It's been a month, and too early for me to comment on longer-term durability, but so far so good.
