    • Burning Smell

TLDR short review: WARNING: Plate. Get's. Hot. That part is obvious, yes, but please - If you have a pet/child/anything be very careful. There is no indication for when the plate itself is hot (like when you take your mug off and it's cooling down) and the plate is almost oven-burner hot. I had it on for maybe 2 minutes and wanted to see how hot it was so I touched it (I know, save your judgement) and woooooboy. We all know it's hot, but understand it get's hot FAST and will probably take a long time to cool down. I imagine this is common amongst all mug warmers, but just be cautious. With how large this plate is I'm afraid my cat will accidently step on it when walking when my mug isn't on it and burn herself. Pro: It keeps my mug at a manageable heat. I think it's more warm than it is hot, frankly, but it's much better than the alternative of just a regular coaster. It's also cheaper (half the price for some units) and I mean, it's not awful. Don't expect fresh out of the pot/Keurig hot, but it's decent. (my mug is also thicker so that could potentially be it) Con: 1) Cable is short. About 3 ft. I was able to make it work but I would've preferred a longer cable, like 5-6 feet, or even 4 feet. It was just barely too short for me. Yes, I can use an extension cable or a surge protector, but I wanted a slightly cleaner look because I already have a TON of cables. 2) It has a burning smell. At first, I thought it was my heater, so I turned it off. When it didn't go away I realized it was my device. It's been on for a few hours now, maybe 3-4, and it started out okay with no smells/issues (plate gets REALLY HOT REALLY FAST by the way. Maybe not necessarily your cup given the thickness of your mug, but the plate itself is h o t). Because it's my first time using it, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and continue to use it for a few more days to see if the burning smell is just "normal" for the first few hours of use. I won't leave it unattended near thousands of dollars of gear, though. I don't think I trust it that much. 3) I would never leave this on in/around your devices. Given the burning smell and some of the reviews (of it literally burning/catching on fire) I highly suggest that when you use this product you don't walk away for longer periods of time. I would use this as a "I'm sitting here and drink my coffee slow because I'm busy working" product and not a "I need to do the dishes, let me walk away for 30 minutes" product. Either take it with you or finish your cup. ESPECIALLY if you have pets/children and have an expensive set-up. This is not like a normal electronic and puts out a significant amount of heat. Be careful. It works pretty well, I'm using a thick mug with a sort of a con-cave bottom that's really small so frankly, I didn't expect it to keep it super hot, or as hot as it was when it came out of the Keurig, but it's not bad. The temperature I relate to nuking it in a Microwave for like 20 seconds or so. It's not HOT but it's not cold/warm necessarily, it's at a good, consumable temperature to where you won't burn yourself. It's almost as if you've made a fresh cup and it's been sitting for 10 or so minutes un-touched. It's hard to really explain the temperature but it's good. I'd compare it to the child-temperature system that Starbucks uses for their hot, fresh drinks. I like it. It's larger than I thought it would be (good thing) but the cord is actually really short. This is going on my gaming setup and a short cord means I'll have to bring a power-strip closer (it's just barely too short to my Cable management box by maybe 6 inches, such a bummer), but I can get around that no problem. Annoying but manageable. I will glance at other products in case the burning smell doesn't go away or I get way too paranoid to leave it near my setup even when I'm sitting here (because I do forget things) but overall, it's not awful. if I wasn't afraid of it burning down my house/setup or damaging anything, I'd give it more stars, but that fear knocked off 1 star, and the warmth is decent but could be better. ... show more

I like having a warmer and not having to run to the microwave to reheat. I find it a bit disturbing that the warmer will keep coffee hot till the last drop and other times it doesn’t, my last warmer did the same.

Pros: -- Good size (little less than an inch tall, about 5 inches in diameter - see pictures - roll of scotch tape placed in pic to show scale - the pic with the red mug is an extra large mug. It was important to me to fine one with a large enough heating area to use this larger mug) -- Reasonably priced -- Easy to setup -- Auto shut off when cup is lifted, auto on when cup is placed on it -- Light so you can see when it is on or off -- Slows the process of cooling and if you only have like an inch of coffee left in the mug, it'll keep it indefinitely warm/drinkable -- Doesn't make things too hot Cons: -- Doesn't keep a full cup of coffee warm - I use it because it *slows* the cooling process, but you can not take a freshly-poured cup of coffee, put it on this device and have it stay the same temperature as when poured. I have tried it with smaller mugs...same result. It works pretty well keeping a half cup of coffee warm, so I still use it. -- The cord should be longer. I had to use an extension cord for it. This would be even better if it was a rechargable battery-powered device. The fact that you have a hot cup of something on what is basically a mini-hot plate and it's all tethered to a 3-4 foot cord that you could easily trip over or that a child/baby could tug on is hazardous. -- Takes a bit to cool off once used and you can burn yourself on it if you touch the surface after it's been on a bit. -- I think it stays on indefinitely as long as there is weight on it - it would be good if as a safeguard it auto shut off even with a mug on it after say, 6 hours so if you left a cup on it by accident and left the house it wouldn't just stay on indefinitely. General Advice: -- The flatter the bottom of the mug, the more heat will be transferred to it. Unfortunately, most mugs are concave at the bottom. I went purposely looking for a large flat bottom mug on Amazon to use with this heater and couldn't find one. -- Use an extension cord so that you have enough play between the heater and where it gets plugged in and can properly hide the cord away from areas where you might step or trip on it -- Unplug when not in use (this will avoid any accidental placement of something on the device that causes it to heat up when you don't want it to and generally reduce the risk of fire etc when you're not sitting right there with it. Also, when it's unplugged, you can use it just as a coaster for cool drinks. -- Keep it away from kids -- Don't expect it to work well in a cold area like a garage or to heat things up that aren't already hot - it really only slows the cooling process. -- If you really want to keep hot stuff at its original temp for as long as possible, insulated mugs/thermos is still the best option ... show more

Great product, simple to use. Weight sensor is well balanced so it never comes on by accident but can run with the lightest ceramic mug with the last sip of coffee. The only thing I wish I had known earlier is that it's a little under powered for keeping coffee as hot as I like it except for the last few sips at the bottom - unless you use some sort of lid to keep the heat in, then it's perfect. ... show more
