  • Extremely sturdy, head is very fluid and smooth, weight is manageable
Style: Tripod with Fluid Head
I've been using a Sirui Traveller tripod for my still photography, which works great for stills but leaves a bit to be desired for video usage. Until using this tripod, I thought the Sirui was very sturdy (it is, it's nice) but this is in another league. All the moving parts are very smooth, with a high level of fit and finish, the lock-up is very secure and easy to use and the head is extremely smooth allowing me to get great panning shots when needed. There is a large price difference between my Sirui and this model and I haven't used many video tripods so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but I do know quality when I see it and use it. The obvious trade-off here, aside from price, is the weight. It's about 3x heavier than my Traveller but it's still a very manageable weight and it came with a nice carring case to boot. There isn't much I'd change about it, but like most tripods, the head is replaceable if desired. I've found it to work very well for me, so I won't be modifying or changing it anytime soon. If you're mostly a stills photographer, this probably wouldn't be the way to go, but if you do a good amount of video work, there's nothing keeping me from recommending it - it's great - and well worth a look. ... show more

  • Beefy tripod but height does not adjust as easily as shown in their video.
Style: Tripod Leg
This SmallRig FT-S303 FreeSpeed carbon fiber tripod is very well made with 1.2 inch (at its largest) round legs. It comes with a nice bag, allen wrench, and I don't know why, but a cheap spring loaded cell phone holder (which you would need your own magic arm or similar to attach it). This item is for the tripod only so you will need your own 65mm bowl fluid head or any other ball head or fluid head with 3/8 thread will fit right on the top. It looks good with my mini fluid head (lol). So the tripod IS nice but one of the main selling factors is the FreeSpeed-Twist Quick-Tightening adjustment which DOES NOT operate/work as shown in their video at all. The video shows all 3 legs extending out by themselves when unlocked (Twist and unlock both knobs on all 3 legs, also their photo showing the locking/unlocking is reversed) and you raise the tripod but that is not the case. Even shaking the tripod they still won't drop as shown (maybe they weighted their legs or lubed them up for the video) without pulling them out one at a time. It is nice to have only basically 1 area to turn on each leg to extend them fully and it is faster but this is nothing like the SmallRig TRIBEX with hydraulic type legs. ... show more

  • Sturdy, lightweight, fast-deployment carbon fiber tripod.
Style: Tripod Leg
This three-section carbon fiber tripod is lightweight and sturdy and comes from SmallRig, a major supplier of high quality photographic accessories for professional photographers. There are lots of well-designed carbon fiber tripods on the market currently and this FT-S303 is no exception. It's as strong as any comparably sized tripod. The FT-S303's claim to fame is its unique leg locks. The two locking mechanisms on each leg are next to each other rather than being separated by the length of the individual sections. This allows you to loosen both tightening mechanisms on a leg with one turn of your hand which releases all three sections of the leg. Once you get used to the motion, the tripod can be deployed and folded-up very quickly. It's not like the video though because the lightweight leg sections don't have enough weight to simply fall open once they are un-tightened. You'll need to attach your own tripod head to the built-in leveling ball but once you do you'll fall in love with the sturdiness, light weight and quick deployment this tripod provides. Another quality product from SmallRig. ... show more

  • Fantastice light carbon fiber tripod
Style: Tripod with Fluid Head
The SmallRig FT-S303 FreeSpeed Carbon Fiber Tripod has quickly become my go-to for both travel and studio shoots. Right out of the box, it’s clear this tripod is built with quality in mind. The carbon fiber construction makes it incredibly lightweight at just 6.4 lbs, so carrying it around is no hassle, even on longer hikes or when packing it for a trip. Despite its lightness, it feels solid and sturdy, handling my gear without any wobble. One of the standout features is its one-twist height adjustment. Raising or lowering the legs is super quick and smooth, which is a huge time-saver when setting up or moving between shots. The max height of 59 inches is perfect for most scenarios, and it compacts down nicely for travel. The 360° fluid head is a dream for video work. It provides buttery-smooth panning and tilting, making it easy to capture cinematic shots. The dual-mode quick-release plate is another thoughtful touch it’s compatible with Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto standards, so switching between my gimbal and tripod is seamless. Versatility is where this tripod really shines. It can handle up to 13.2 lbs, which means it supports my full-frame DSLR with a telephoto lens without breaking a sweat. I’ve also used it with lighter setups, like a mirrorless camera, and it works just as well. It’s not just for video, though. The stability and ease of adjustment make it a great option for still photography too, especially in uneven terrain. I’ve used it for everything from landscape shots to macro photography, and it performs beautifully in all conditions. If you’re looking for a versatile, lightweight, and durable tripod that doesn’t compromise on features, the SmallRig FT-S303 is a fantastic investment. It’s portable enough for travel but tough enough for professional use, and it’s quickly become an essential part of my gear. Highly recommend! ... show more
