I have been looking for a sturdier way to control my A6600 and find that the SmallRig cage is as good as advertised. If you use the shoulder strap that comes with the A6600, you may have some blockage over some of the doors - ensure that the strap is facing up when attaching the cage.

    • Needed to Dremel top to fit HVL-F60RM flash

When I attempted to attach the flash, it initially showed no signs of working. I then realized that the connection wasn't very good as the flash would connect and disconnect, but never producing a light. I inspected the cage by the hot shoe and noticed it wasn't letting the flash click into place. I initial thought to have SmallRig help but remembered the material is aluminum/magnesium alloy so I pulled out my Dremel and shaved off a mm of material. Works great now. The next day I get a response from SmallRig: "Sorry to tell you that the cage don't support the F60RM. Currently we don't have a solution for it, and we can't mill it neither. (I asked if I could send it in to be milled ><) We advise you choose other light." What a crummy solution. At least put me in contact with an engineer or something. All in all, happy with product but just wanted to signal to potential customers you may encounter issues and SmallRig support will be little to no help. ... show more

    • Excellent cage ... with "caveats"
The Smallrig cage fit my A6600 snugly ... maybe, *too* snugly. I say that because once you attach some of the larger lenses or adapters to the A6600, the cage no longer fits. Even with the 18-135 "kit" lens, I've found that you must remove the camera strap rings from the A6600 in order for the cage to fit flush. But once I did, I really liked the feel in my hand, and appreciated the extra protection the cage afforded. But once I mounted the Sony LA-EA4 ("monster adapter") along with an older Sigma 24-70 2.8 lens, the cage became a "no-go" -- which was a real disappointment, because I'm back to "square-one" trying to find a solution to accommodate the A6600 body, the LA-EA4, and the Sony 70-300 tele lens.     • Very happy with the small rig cage
Very happy with the small rig cage, it is very well made, and the cold shoes are in a great place for my mic and light hookups. Now if only small rig made one of these for going around my other cameras giant external battery id be in heaven.

    • Wow! Now I know why so many people use them
The quality is so good! The metal has some weight and I definitely trust my rig in this. It is so easy to install and is very snug. 10/10 would recommend!

    • Very well made and super handy
This is rock solid and very well made. Can be a tricky fit to the A6600 the first few times you use it. Just watch for those camera strap loops that do not need to be removed but can get in the way when you slide this cage on. In most cases you will need to remove the lens to put this on. So either practice installing it somewhere quiet first or leave it on once installed. The obvious use for this is to move a microphone out of the way of the flip screen, however keep in mind that the bar of the cage that runs along the top of the camera will limit the view of the screen when flipped anyway. However it is still easier to see and frame with it than if your microphone was blocking it. ... show more

    • Great accessory
First off, I'm no professional - the Sony A6600 this was mounted to is by far the most expensive piece of camera gear I've ever purchased. Which is partly why I wanted something beefy to surround it to help protect it from damage. Additionally, I knew that this particular camera wouldn't work well for video without relocating the shoe to mount the microphone - something that this cage does for me. I've also found it useful for keeping a quick release tripod mount on the side and bottom for quickly changing orientation.     • A welcome addition to my Sony A6600
This mount has proven to be sturdy and well built with good tolerances. The number of tapped holes and cold shoe mounts all in the right place at least for my use, are invaluable for mounting my microphone, passive attenuator and a custom 3D printed piece which supports the USB and HDMI cables to alleviate stress and prolong the reliability of the ports. ... show more
