  • What I need
Style Name: ST+ Launch Monitor
I am a relatively new golfer and I don’t have a lot of simulator experience however I tried a garmin R10 and could not get it to work in my small space in my garage. I don’t have a full sim setup, just a mat and net and now a Skytrak and iPad. This however works like a Charm, makes sure I don’t bake a slice into my swing when I can’t make it out to the course/range. It catches all the swings that matter and the only misses where ones I would have not wanted to remember anyway since topped shots (Tom Brady) do not get recorded. Might be on purpose but not an issue for me. I love the club path data and launch angle to really help me see what I am doing right or wrong. I haven’t figured out how to log my daughter and wife in so our averages dont mix yet but they enjoy it as well. It works best with an ipad but pc worked as well. I don’t have an issue with the slight delay at all. It’s light, would get a case with it since it sits forward of the ball and nasty slice would cause an issue I imagine. I had no issues reading yellow, red or white balls that I have tried. Would like sky team to add angle of attack and and face impact in the future to perfect it. ... show more

  • 3 Month review - Pros and Cons
Style Name: ST+ Launch Monitor
I've owned this beast for about 3 months and here are my takeaways: 1. While other launch monitors may read the data no matter how bad your setup is, this thing needs some help. Set yourself up for success. use a real net (Net Return) with real golf balls and consider the TaylorMade tp5 pix golf balls to help avoid misreads. You'll want it in a bright room on a proper mat. use it on grass or outside or with foam balls, or in poor lighting, and you'll introduce more likelihood of error and more disappointment. This thing is 90% set up to be an inside launch monitor. Kind of a bummer since it does work with iPad and it has an internal battery. I probably have 2-3 misreads per 50-100 ball session. Enough to be annoying, but not a deal breaker for me. 2. at 2k for new or 1.5k for a refurb (which I did) this is in a crowded space for launch monitors but not as expensive as the big boys. I've done a bunch of research and you can either go cheap (R10) or mlm2pro and that might do the trick for you or you can go more expensive (GC3, GC3S, Uneekor Eye Mini, etc.). It's really tough to just pay for the launch monitor, not pay any subscriptions, and end up where you want to be. Most of these companies are making it so you have to pay for their subscription for certain features (often including whether you can use it with 3rd party software like GS Pro). GS Pro is awesome (also $250/yr) and you'll want a launch monitor that will work with it. Skytrak charges a base price of around $130 for their enhanced ranges / game improvement features and then they add on another $250 fee if you want access to 20 or so trackman or foresight courses. Skytrak does not have an official integration into GS Pro but there's a workaround if you're mildly tech Savvy. the basic plan and a subscription to GS Pro is what I have and likely what I will keep for now. 3. if you're okay with 20 courses and $380/yr in subscriptions (130 base + 250 for 20 courses) and you're not tech savvy, this thing should be a no-brainer. That'll get you the enhanced ranges on skytrak as well as either the foresight or the trackman courses (around 20 courses). It's very user friendly if you stay in skytrak's ecosystem. It'll work on your computer or your ipad. If you're looking for a launcher without having to by a gaming computer and you already have an ipad, this could be awesome for you. Or you could start the inevitable scope creep and wish you'd gone with something different out of the gate. 4. if you're a GS Pro die-hard (as I'm rapidly becoming) and you can justify a more expensive launch monitor, I'd steer you elsewhere unless you need the lower cost of entry this thing is compared to a GC3. skytrak not having official integration with GS Pro is a miss in my book and probably unlikely to change because they have a course option that steers the money toward skytrak. GS Pro licenses don't help Skytrak's sales revenue. The reason I'm on the fence about keeping it is with the skytrak+ I have a launcher that will work with GS Pro (via open API / not an official integration) with no subscription fees for the skytrak to work with it (I still have to pay for GS Pro). That is becoming rarified air. if you have the Bushnell LPi or GC3s or MLM2PRO you have to cough up some coin just to be able to use GS Pro. I don't know if they'll shut the door on this with skytrak, but that's a pretty sweet proposition of not having any annoying ongoing subscription fees. for now, I can pick up the essential fee and use the game improvement stuff because I like it. I may bag it next year and just use the range on GS pro and not have any skytrak subscription fees. 5. The dumbest thing about the skytrak+ is the fact that when it's connected to your PC and a power supply (they have a special cable) it loses battery and will eventually die, perhaps before your 18 hole round is done. the workaround that I finally figured out (they acknowledge it loses power when connected to PC on their website) is to set it up in network mode and have a direct connection from the usb-c port to a power adapter. I ditched the factory one, and use an Anker GAN 100w charger with a 100w usb-c cord. In network mode it's always at 100% battery and I don't have to worry about it dying on me. Network mode allows the skytrak to connect wirelessly to your pc at the same time your pc still has access to the internet (important if you're playing GS pro online). Anyways, if you've read this far you are going down a very dark rabbit hole with endless sim launcher research and opinions. Best of luck as you make your decision. 5. Finally, if you have kids, save yourself the annoyance and get the knockoff $50 case (or the one that comes with it in certain packages). Also invest in some side nets. you probably don't need it, but your kid does and the launch monitor and drywall will thank you. ... show more

  • DO NOT PURCHASE
Style Name: ST+ Launch Monitor
DO NOT PURCHASE a refurbished unit. TRASH, it worked ok for about 3 weeks, then started having issues. I contacted support, Skytrak support said that it was a battery issue and did an RMA. I purchased the unit on May 3rd, and it was RMA'd on July 29th. Skytrak received my unit via RMA. They determined that it was a motherboard issue, and now it will cost me $519 plus tax to repair it. I would save your money and buy a Garmin Approach. ... show more

  • Great Unit, Battery/Charging Frustration Unbearable
Style Name: ST+ Launch Monitor
The SkyTrak is a great product for beginner to average golfers and a great feature to cost value. It’s inexpensive compared to other launch monitors while providing similar features. I’ve had great success with mine and accuracy seems good for the price. The courses are fun, though their subscription model is less desirable. Expect to dish out another $200-400 for the year to actually be worthwhile. However, all that being said and the reason for just 2 stars is the charging aspect. When it’s fully charged it’s great. However, the unit purely works off the battery and not off the charger. This is a huge deal because it means when playing you will slowly drain the battery until it forces a charge. Generally that’s not impactful cause you can get 3-5 hours of play. But if you don’t turn it off properly, which is not straightforward, it can turn back on or stay on and drain battery. Then when going out to play you find it’s dead and have to wait 2 hours for it to recharge. That’s a horrible experience. This unit should be able to be plugged in 100% of the time and NEVER become inoperable. That is not the case and is extremely frustrating. That aspect alone makes me not recommend this device. If money is a concern then it’s a frustration that can be suffered. However, I’d highly recommend spending more and buying better units. I wish I had and my future monitor will not be a SkyTrak. ... show more
