I'm heavy into car audio, I have 3 cars all have systems... Dnt usually go against the grain meaning I normally buy Rockford everything! As far as amps its been Rockford for the past years which all still thump just fine.. after reading review after review I was not comfortable with getting Rockford shallow mount p3. after doing a lot of research I kept coming across skar audio then watch videos etc etc then I just said forget it and brought 2 vd d2 and and prefab box which I did have to modify BTW ( very simple). I have and f-150 supercrew underseat box and MAN these things POUND!!!!! I have been running them for about 5 months now and I have ppl literally pulling next to me at stop lights asking what I have in my truck, they know when I pull into work, friends here me coming and my lady hops in my truck every chance she gets! these things hit nice and low deep bass. I did have to screw around with crossover to get it just right. only pushing about roughly around 300 watts per sub with 500 watt Rockford prime mono (birth sheet 638) and not even half way up, sub barely move and shakes my whole truck! I keep my amp down for the overall quality but if you want all eyes (ears) on you GRAB A PAIR!!!!!! you will not be disappointed!!!! turn the amp down to enjoy a night out with the lady or turn the amp up if your out with the fellas... Rockford amps Skar subs it will be for me from now on perfect match.. ... show more

These things have great boom per buck. Skar has a cheap reputation, but I've been abusing a pair of these for a over a year and they are taking everything i can throw at em. They are in a prefab jeep tj box wired to a kicker 1200w amp.. so far so very good. I have a single elv in a box in my car and that thing Rips , but also takes 2x the amount of airspace the vd series requires. ... show more

    • Incredible sounding sub, but a little janky with the mounting rubber ring.

I was a little doubtful this sub would live up to it's reviews, but it's freaking awesome. I had recently blown a Rockford Fosgate P3 shallow mount and needed a new sub in a pinch. I found this on on amazon and figured I'd give it try. Upon opening the box, I was pretty surprised how solid the sub felt, the rubber surround seemed really strong, nice magnet, and looked really well built. When I went to install it, I noticed the rubber ring that goes around the outside where you put the screws through didn't quite line up with the holes on the sub. So I pulled it off, realigned the best I could. It still didn't line up quite right. This is my only complaint with this sub. I had to re-drill through the rubber to get everything lined up. Once installed it made a really good seal, but it doesn't look the cleanest. I wish they'd given a trim ring like my fosgate to hide the screws. In any event, I broke this in over the course of the past two weeks and slowly have been turning it up. I'm just blown away how much better this sounds then the Fosgate I had installed. It really thumps for a shallow mount and it's night and day from the past sub. Same enclosure, Skar sub sounds 10x better than the previous. I'm really kind of in a state of disbelief. Hopefully it's durable, I'll update later once I've had this in for a couple months. For now, I'm super impressed. I only knocked one star off due to the mounting ring, take a look at my review photo and you can see how it didn't line up. ... show more

I hooked this speaker up to my Rockford Punch amp and it sounded great!!! Good if not better than better my 12" sub. I paired it with a BBox sub box as shown in the pics and just rattles the windows and shakes the mirrors of my other car parked next to it. I am running 12ga wire inside the box, bridged at the amp, and run in parallel to 1ohm. Sub and box was around $140, for that low of a price to be guaranteed great hard hitting or rolling bass lines you can't lose. If you are a first time buyer or getting into stereo systems for your car this is a great way to start and measure the standard by it. ***IT MAY NEED SOME BOX TRIMMING TO FIT THE SPEAKER BUT EASILY DONE AND WORTH IT!!!! ... show more

Does lows really well but anything in between is questionable. If you just want bass this is it, if you listen to several kinds of genres I’d consider kicker or Memphis subwoofers.
