I use this on a nightstand primarily as a reading light. It throws a good light and the pull-chain switch is very easy to operate. The style is very simple and modern so it's great if you want something unobtrusive. If you want something with more design elements, you might want to keep looking. Assembly was very easy. The shade generally stays in place but can become a bit crooked if I accidently hit it. However, I can reposition it where it attaches to the light socket in seconds.
