You fill it with water, it makes ice cubes in just a few minutes and if the ice sits for too long, it begins to melt into the water tray and then the process starts over with making ice. I had previously bought a Silonn Countertop Ice Maker not knowing you have to let it sit for the first 24 hours before you can use it. So I waited and at first it worked but only for 7 initial cycles. Then it quit. I tried again and again and still nothing. So, I returned it and bought this Simple Deluxe ice maker as it does not require waiting 24 hours for the first use. Wow, so happily surprised. within the first hour the basket was full of very nice size bullet type ice cubes. No waiting required. Just cleaned the insides as suggested, added water and boom,,,we were off and running. Now this is what I thought I was getting with the Silonn. Stay away from that maker. Works beautifully simple and easy to use quite and makes ice very quickly. I wouldn't trade it for nothing I love it. I recommend it 100% the only think I would change is having some place to store the ice scoop so it will not get lost or dirty but I can live with it.
