After seeing the Silonn ice maker on the counter at my Brother and Sister-in-law’s house, my interest was definitely piqued. I decided that I needed and ice maker, too, because I love ice cold drinks. I originally didn’t know what brand they had purchased, so just started looking at all of the brands. There were so many, with very good and very bad reviews. I got a little confused and gave up for a little while. I finally asked them what brand they bought and how they liked it , after using it for several months, and my sister-in-law said that if there was a fire, her husband would grab his Silonn ice maker first. I bought one the same day, and I have not been disappointed. It really produces, and I have a constant supply of ice. I did find out that if you don’t use it right away, it will melt back into the machine, so it is necessary to store the ice in the freezer. But that is not really a problem. They store it in the ice bin from their non-working freezer ice maker. I’m not that fancy, and just put it in ziplock bags. The ice sticks together a bit, but separates by giving the bag a little tap on the counter. I would definitely recommend this item. ... show more

If you love ice cold beverages like I do, this is a MUST if you don't have an automatic on your fridge. It's fast and so easy. I live in a rather small appartment so the freezer doesn't have much room and ice trays suck (take up space and take forever) I was buying bags of ice but again space. This thing may look like a frivolous buy but trust me. It has improved my life so much. If you want ice. Pour water into this, turn on and in minutes you've got an ice cold drink to enjoy. I've only had it for 2 days but I love it! It seems like it makes ice so fast. The ice is perfect for eating while your sipping on something. I have always been an ice eater and this soft ice will give my teeth a break. Others commented that the ice melts if you leave it sit for awhile, and while that is true its not that bad. even if it melts the water drips down and the machine can make new ice. This is a great handy gadget. There seems to be a misunderstanding about the machine not being insulated. It's not a freezer meant to hold your ice cubes for a while. It makes 9 cubes every 6 minutes. The only parts that have the coolant are the metal parts that actually form the ice. The rest of the machine only holds the water and the cubes in the basket after they are made. I suggest you only let 2 batches sit in the basket before emptying it and use them or storing the cubes in your regular freezer as they will melt just sitting in the basket. I wanted to love this ice maker, but it is mediocre at best. There are a number of problems with it, but I will start with the positive. First and foremost, it really does make ice quickly. You will definitely have roughly 7-9 cubes within minutes of turning it on. It seems reasonably well-made, study and is easy to use. Cleaning seems like it would be a snap if I were keeping it. That said, this machine has two significant problems that will cause me to shop for another. It simply isn't properly insulated. Why does that matter? Well, these little ice makers only have enough refrigeration capacity to make ice. So, anything sitting in the bin will begin to melt instantly. So, if you wait until the bin is full, you'll be waiting all day as the ice melts, leaving the runoff in the reservoir to cycle back into ice. What ice you do get out of it tends to instantly clump because it's so wet, so off-loading it into a freezer is an option - but you'll have to wait around standing next to the machine to actually be able to use the machine to capacity. This all could have been avoided by using an insulated lid with a small window (this assumes that the body of the machine is actually insulated - not sure that it is with as poorly as it performs). Additionally, the image shows the basket brimming with ice - that is a flat out falsehood. The ice won't even come up level to the basket before it senses the basket is full. So you get a Yeti tumbler's worth of ice before it shuts off. Finally, heed the commenters about NOISE. This sucker iS LOUD. We have a great room and this device sits next to the fridge (which also has its own ice maker). This device is many times louder than the fridge's ice maker *when it's on TURBO*. All-in-all, it's cheap and semi-effective, but I'll be shopping around for its replacement even though I've only had it a few days. ... show more

Not happy with the first batch of ice in a cycle is thin the water. All the rest are thicker but watery also. So when emptying the basket and putting in a bag for the freezer for storage the cubes freeze into a large chunk.

True confession, I’m an ice eater. This unit makes great soft ice for crunching! Today is the first day I have it up & running and it works so well. The only drawback I see is that because I’m running it continuously throughout the day the machine puts out s good bit of warm air making my kitchen warmer than I would like. I’m thinking about moving it to the garage for this reason. My garage is not far at all from my kitchen. Overall it’s a great little machine and I hope it will last for a long while with such continuous use. ... show more
