    • Good awning from a good company!
Nice awning, inexpensive and good looking. Tough enough to hold up to my single-handed installation. A few suggestions if you install it yourself. Mainly: DON'T do this without help. If you do, it's very difficult and time consuming. 1. Use a feed cover if at all possible, Dometic suggests it. Otherwise, bend and smooth the edges of the "feed ramp" where the awning goes into the tube. I used pliers and a Dremel to polish the ends smooth. 2. Use plenty, lots, of Silicone spray lubricant on the channels, both on the tube and the one attached to the RV. Add more as the stuff gets rubbed off the feed ramps. 3. I installed the awning onto the tube in the rolled position, then fed it into the RV slot unrolled using three ladders, two to hold the tube/awning and one to feed the awning into the RV slot. 4. Then unrolled the awning so I could work from the ground when tightening the springs. My Dometic A&E Heavy Duty 8500 springs took 12 turns to roll up correctly. 8 is specified if the awning is rolled up, 4 more are required because it was unrolled (extended). 5. Vice grips are essential when tightening the springs, but Dometic has some kind of crank that I don't have. Also "lock" the springs in place once they're wound tight. Mine has two holes in each spring cap and a corresponding hole in the spring rod. A thin nail or cotter pin slips through the cap holes and the rod hole to prevent the spring from unwinding. I used nails and learned to tape them securely because they fall out when winding the other side. A long cotter pin that goes all the way through the spring cap can be bent to prevent this. The Grey Fade paint scratches off easily, so be very careful. Again, get one other person to help with this, it will save a ton of effort and maybe some grief. It was my first time installing one of these, I even watched youtube videos (which were not Dometic) but consider myself fortunate to have not torn the awning. I had painted our motorhome and this awning really sets it off! Tricky to install unless you've done one before and have a pal. Quality seems very good. Don't forget the place to measure for an awning is from centre of one upright to centre of the other. Good Luck!

The awning replacement vinyl was exelend folded up so I could lay it up on my next to the awning slide out and pull it right into the awning roller and RV mounted rail, the replacement awning came with 3 strings just like my old vinyl, the whole ordeal took me 2 hours starting with securing awning arms in near closed positoin so i could work from the RV roof and the slide out, I cut and removed the old vinyl removed the vertical frame arms end cap oposit the motor drive end only, added some dishwasher soap in the rails, my Care Free roller assembly are designed with 4 smooth Inlets in the end plastic cover made for mount the vinyl strings/vinyl, see picture, 3 is for the awning vinyl and 1 for mount of eventual vertical sunshade curtain, I slided in/mounted the 3 stringed vinyl all at the same time, there is a sharp edge on my Care Free roller support steel frame that i needed covered with a cloth to smothen it out to avoid damage the vinyl sliding over, it worked great, the vinyl looked great and very nice made, now time will tell if it will hold to the strong Florida heat and sun, but for now I will give this awning replacement 5 stars, and yes I would recommend this product to my best friends! ... show more

My insurance company recommended this brand and my installer agreed it was the right choice. He had no issues with installation. It went as smoothly as it could go. Anyone who ownes an RV knows the struggle of finding the right replacement, as one by one things break down. I wanted a quality product, but didn't want to spring for the added cost of a design. This was the exact right choice. It's heavy weight. It fits as expected. It was easy enough to install. The price is great. And delivery was lightening fast. I highly recommend this awning fabric. My insurance company did me a solid and I learned that it might be a good idea to call them for recommendations in the future. If you own an RV, you need 3 things. Tolerance for how much can go wrong either at once or in rapid sequences, assistance in locating high quality replacements because you can't save money in the long run with bargain products, and a good, trustworthy service company. The service call will almost always exceed the cost of the product significantly. So, your best option is to buy durable products and be very nice to the people who install the laundry list of things that will need replacing, lol. ... show more
