I got this to replace a similar off-brand grinder that I actually really like, but it takes an oddball one-off battery (I originally had 3 tools that took those batteries, but the other two broke!). I wanted a grinder that would run on Makita batteries, or maybe one of my other battery families. This one fills the bill so far. If you haven't run across this already, there are a lot of off-brand tools that include a battery that won't work in Makita tools/chargers, but the tools will run on Makita/compatible batteries. The difference is the extra connector strip that Makita batteries have, but the form factor, contacts, and voltage are the same. Tools like this exist using some of the other branded batteries, but Makita is the most common. I have quite a few tools like this, many of which came with two of this style of batteries. So when using any of these tools, I don't have to look far to find a battery because I know I have at least a dozen of them. If I want to use one of my actual Makita tools though, I only have a few (well, maybe 5) batteries that will work, so I try to keep them together. The batteries included here charge off of a transformer and barrel plug - there are a lot of these like that, but as far as I've seen with the tools I have from at least 4-5 different brands, all of these batteries/chargers are compatible with one another. They just won't run Makita branded tools. All that said (if it made sense?), this grinder seems great so far and a suitable replacement for my old one. I also have an impact driver in the SEESII brand that I've been pretty pleased with (also with 2 batteries). I don't know that the power of any cordless grinder is really going to be comparable to a corded grinder (and when things are serious, I have one of those in my toolbox), even if it's really pretty good. I haven't had any major disappointments yet though in that department. The reduced power is a fair trade-off for portability and I have no complaints. I don't do much metal working usually, so when I only had a corded grinder, I NEVER used it. Too much hassle for small jobs. Since I got my first cordless grinder, I don't hesitate to grab it for even the smallest of projects. So having a grinder that performs just as well and uses the same battery as a lot of my other tools is a great upgrade. The bag this came with is a nice bonus. Nothing fancy but it keeps everything together. I'm amazed at how many tools DON'T come with some kind of bag/case, yet include all manner of tools and accessories. Several cutting/sanding wheels are included here as well. Right now there is actually a bundle deal on this with some cut-off wheels that is actually way cheaper than the current price on the grinder kit alone - don't miss out on that! If you need to do serious grinding on a regular basis, like bodywork or welding, etc, you need a corded grinder or a high-end cordless. Something like this would only be a tool to have in addition to that. But for occasional use like I need this for, it seems perfect so far.

I thought I'd take a stab at this unit for 1/3 the price of a Makita bare tool. It feels nice in the hand, and is pretty smooth, but it's like a toy compared with my old brushed Makita, and especially compared with a corded grinder. Pros: lightweight and well balanced accepts Makita batteries (which do give it more power than the included batteries) speed adjustment Cons: weak speed adjustment resets after the unit is turned off for a few seconds, so you have to press the power button 2x to get it to go full speed again batteries are like 2ah, maybe and take forever to charge--and they won't fit in a Makita charger or Makita tools I'll keep it just because the thing was SO cheap, but if you're looking for a serious tool, look elsewhere. This one will probably be dedicated to flap-wheel use for me, since it's nice to have like 4 grinders lying around when fabricating.
