I've had this backup drive for over 5 years. I bought one for my wife and son at that time too. Then I bought a third because "you are never fully backed up till you have that 3rd back up." They are flawless. Seagate has always had a great reputation going way back to the days of SCSI Barracuda 15k drives. Nothing breaks them. One suggestion though. Wipe the drive clean by reformatting to your OS. Lose the backup software supplied. Never trust a third party backup app. Very risky. ... show more

Update: I learned that I needed to not just close my lap top lid but to shut it completely off to have Seagate reboot properly. Overall the device does not meet my expectations.I now I have contacted Seagate support once and the problem was resolved. Today I tried to access tool kit. I cannot access to a kit. I clicked on properties, it says I have a little over 1,000 kilobytes of data . It is supposed to have well over a gigabyte. So far this device has been of no use to me. I had no problems formatting and was able to start dragging & dropping files immediately. I must be one of the lucky ones as my ultra touch has been working great. I formatted two separate partitions for my Mac to use as both a time machine and a backup storage. Not hard at all to use and set up so I would recommend.

Seagate offers great customer support. I needed advice before I bought the first Ultra Touch because I just bought an IMAC and need to transfer files from PC to MAC. No problem. No re-formatting.     • seagate has the WORST customer support i have ever dealt with in my life
this thing failed in under 3 months under normal use. seagate's warranty exchange website is broken and doesn't function correctly. i spent OVER a week dealing with seagate's horrendous, 3rd-world-outsourced, CHAT ONLY (THERE IS NO PHONE SUPPORT!!!) customer support, only to be charged 6 TIMES for an exchange order that kept disappearing and never showed up, and then took way longer than necessary to finally get to some supervisor's supervisor who could FINALLY refund the charges after a week+ - and this was supposed to be a 2 business day exchange. this has been the worst customer service experience of my life. eventually i just contacted amazon and told them what a mess this was and thankfully amazon just refunded my purchase and seagate can forever go pound sand at this point so far as i am concerned. i will NEVER buy a seagate product again after how awful this experience was. days wasted with customer support that knew nothing and got me nowhere and kept charging my card anyway. it felt like i was dealing with a venezuelan scam ring. buyer beware - if you have something that goes wrong, seagate's alleged 5-year-warranty is as good as useless. they'll run you around their tech support for days on end and never send you a replacement. i will NEVER purchase another seagate product again after this. ... show more
