I was skeptical that the different settings on the app would actually change the performance parameters of the hearing aids, but they certainly do. Let me start off by saying the EARGO SE Use and Care Manual that came with my new hearing aids is well written and easy to understand in helping you get to know your new hearing aids. Let me also state that I've been using expensive prescription hearing aids as dispensed from licensed Audiologists for the past 15 years and all of my hearing aids up till now have been "BTE" (Behind The Ear) aids which weren't that easy to wear after I began wearing prescription glasses and although they have diminished in size over the years they've never been as discreet to wear as these EARGO hearing aids. These EARGO aids come with their medium size silicone ear domes pre-attached to these hearing aids or as EARGO labels them as silicone trumpets but I've always used medium sized ear domes with all of my prior hearing aids so these fit fine. If you canal size is different they also include 2 small and 2 large ones as well. After downloading their App I created my account with EARGO and then the App checked my new devices and let me know that they had software that needed to be updated which took less than 10 minutes but just remember to insert your aids back into the charging case for the update to take effect. I chose these EARGO hearing aids due to their reasonable cost since after I retired I didn't have the thousands of dollars to keep spending on my prescription hearing aids and it a sad fact that once you lose parts of your hearing it will never be the same again and if you want to carry on a normal conversation with your friends and family or watch TV without your neighbors complaining about the loudness coming from your home you must spend the rest of your life needing to wear true hearing aids. Now there is one drawback you should be aware of with these EARGO SE hearing aids and that is this particular model of OTC Adult Hearing Aids do not have Bluetooth streaming capabilities for music or phone calls. The Bluetooth connection is only for the mobile app, which can be used to make adjustments to your settings. If you can live without these features you will save a considerable amount of money by giving these a try. What I like the best about these EARGO SE hearing aids is their discreetness while wearing them and I found the sound to be very good. Another plus is that these are self-fitting meaning the App will provide a test where it will determine your hearing loss and set your hearing aids accordingly. It took me several tries until I felt good with the results but now I don't have to go to an Audiologist and get tested in their soundproof booth again. I've discovered that while wearing these completely in the ear canal you will need to maintain a regular daily cleaning schedule for this style of hearing aids especially since the microphone is located in your ear canal which are unlike the ones I use to wear that had one or two microphones located in the case behind my ear. Luckily I've never had an issue with wax build up but still I will have to clear away any oily residue from my new hearing aids as well as maintain cleaning of the charging contacts in their charging case. With this SE package they've also included an EARGO Deep Cleaning Kit that includes their cleaning wax and alcohol pads along with instruction of when and how to use it. Once fully charged they will provide up to 16 hours of usage before having to re-insert them into their charging case and if traveling the charging case can up to 5 full charge cycles. If you really want to get back to the World of Sound and you're on a strict budget I would suggest giving this budget priced OTC set of hearing aids a try.

The media could not be loaded. My son has lived with complete hearing loss in his right ear since he was about five years old. Doctors always said there was nothing that could be done. We’ve learned to live with that reality until now. He tried the Eargo 8 not expecting anything. In fact, he said “I’m not even testing my right ear it doesn’t hear.” But the setup app required a hearing check in both ears so he went through with it… and to his shock he heard a few faint frequencies around 5 or 6. At first he thought maybe it was just sound leaking through from his good ear via bone conduction but something about the sensation felt different. He tested again this time in complete silence. The result was the same he could hear something. Not full words or conversations but definite frequencies. And more importantly he could feel the difference. From that day he started wearing the Eargo 8 daily in his right ear his “silent side.” It’s not a miracle cure but it’s a miracle moment for someone who never expected to hear anything from that side again. Even a faint sound gives a sense of connection and most of all hope.
