What ages is this pen recommended for? The SCRIB3D Advanced is recommended for makers ages 14+ due to the high temperature of the nozzle when extruding filament. The pen temperature can be adjusted from 160°C to 210°C. What size filament does the pen need? The SCRIB3D Advanced uses 1.75 mm filament spools. The pen set comes with PLA filament and is also compatible with PET, TPU, nylon, and wood filaments to expand creative possibilities. Is there any setup involved? No setup or special tools required. Simply plug the adapter into the back of the pen, set the temperature by choosing the filament type and clicking the forward button, wait for the pen to warm up then add filament to begin creating. What type of battery or charging cable does the pen require? The ADV does not operate on a battery - it must be plugged in to operate. I was able to draw/print a lingerie dress for a fashion project I am working on that I will be photographing soon. Once you get used to the pen, it is easy to use. Great speed control and heats up pretty quick. I used ABS for this piece and it is SUPER LIGHT and easy to draw out. I actually had a design I needed to change and cut it out easily and redrew with out issue. 100% satisfied and am working on a larger project. TIPS I LEARNED * Start/Stopping is around 1-2 second delay so when you are looking to start or stop drawing, hit the button 1-2 seconds before you are ready. * Make sure if you are doing connections that you leave a small anchor point and if you are looking to draw on something and remove it easily, use Painters tape or Masking tape. I used Masking tape on my mannequin for this piece. * ABS - Buy Low/No Oder ABS. It's easier to draw with in my opinion and does have some flex but not as much as PLA. I used this for the piece above and it worked fine. * PLA is less brittle and is biodegradable. I find it is a little different to draw with but I'm trying that on my larger piece to see if I get more flex out of it. So far it appears to be coming out fine. This pen uses 1.75mm and I find that 2lbs (Cost around $20) regardless of ABS or PLA or color gives you a LOT of material. This piece only used (and weighs) less than 1lb. I have enough for another dress and then some. My only complaint is that the tip is a bit short. I wish it stuck out a little more but it hasn't hindered me.

I was actually surprised by how much I like this 3d Pen. I have been in technology for over 25 years and the last 5 years have been focused on 3d technology. I usually use 3d printers so it was a bit of a learning curve when I started using 3d pens. I have purchased pens from $30 up to $200. This pen is a good mid-range pen that delivers quality, comfort, durability, and incredibly easy to use. It has a really nice slope design which I like because my hand tires easily after using the pens for a while. They tend to twist & turn throughout the use. This one stays easily put in position in my hand which is nice because the buttons are easy to reach on both sides with this design. The filament selection type, ABS or PLA, is clearly displayed on the LCD screen & is selected by simply pushing the disburse button then set the temp to the proper degree and within seconds you are printing. I like that once you hit the dispense filament button, it continuously dispenses until I tap the button again to stop the flow. Another nice feature is, instead of using a slide to select the amount of filament being dispensed, this pen uses buttons. One simple tap and I can control whether I want a thick or thin line of filament dispensed. Another feature is the sleep mode. The pen will emit a tone letting you know it is entering sleep mode. I like this feature because while I am tidying up my project by cutting off loose ends or smoothing out rough edges, the pen is not burning & dispensing filament (which has happened with another type pen). To change filament color, just hold the reverse button for 5 seconds. The pen will continue to reverse out the filament. I cant tell you how much I LOVE that option. Most pens I will accidentally hit the reverse feed and instead of continuing my project, I have to stop wait for it to dispense then refill with the same color all because I tapped the wrong button. This pen has eliminated that frustration for me and that alone makes it worth every penny, lol This is not a professional pen but it does do a nice job dispensing the filament which, with a little time & patience learning to use this pen properly, you can create a lot of fun & useful & beautiful projects. During this time of lockdowns and lock-ins, its nice to have fun things to do with your time. This is something I enjoy doing with my grandchildren. 3d printer pens are a lot of fun and this pen is packed with lots of entertainment. It comes with 3 PLA filaments - not enough to really create anything but just enough to let you test out various temps and dispenser feed. You also get a ready to use template to create other 3d projects. I found the templates to be very useful when I first started to use the pen. So, bottom line is - if you are looking for a really nice, mid-range 3d pen that will help you be all you can be creative wise but not break your budget - I recommend this pen. You can go cheaper but then you get what you pay for. I want to add that initially I had questions about the use of the pen after my purchase. I emailed the seller regarding my questions and they responded immediately, resolved my issue and also gave me some pointers on the use of this pen. So, Good Price + Great customer Service + Quality 3d pen make this a win for anyone that gets this device. This will make a great stocking stuffer for anyone.

UPDATE: Pen got jammed and followed instructions in book and online video for clearing and partially worked but still clogged so took it apart. Then it would not go back together, plus it broke taking the tip off. Was very hard to do. The pinch tabs don’t work at all. The filament reverse instructions were not accurate for how the pen worked either. We ordered a replacement and hoping it works better. This is a good tool, but it’s either finicky or we got a lemon. Not sure. So far the new one seems to function like the last one but I’m not entirely sure since I’m not the one using it. One thing my child noted was that the reverse was very slow and incomplete on the last one so the filament would need to be pulled out. This was part of the stuck problem. Using with more caution now. Well, the kid loves it. I, on the other hand, want to send it back! The annoying sound it makes is driving me nuts from 2 rooms away! It’s like a low pitchy squealing or whirring sound nonstop that is just enough to drive you insane! Not bothering the user though! The buttons don’t do as the instructions say. To reverse the filament it says to press the reverse button for 5 seconds, but in actuality, you press the forward button and it stops it and then it either goes backwards on its own or you then press the back button. And the speed buttons don’t seem to do anything. It only came with a red and a white filament and we bought a separate pack and it seems the practice with the pen is using quite a lot of filament. It’s a neat gift but it will be costly to keep it stacked I think and then I’ll just have a bunch of projects lying about. I would like the filament to be biodegradable but don’t tho I’m it is. Not excited about adding more plastic trash to the planet. It comes with a shiny paper that’s a design template and it seems this is beneficial as a work surface so the plastic peels off easily and doesn’t stick to whatever table or desk you’re working at. Plastic may nut stink too bad but could destroy the project I think if you can’t peel it off easily. Overall, neat tool.

I dropped from a height of 24 inches and now the extruder stopped working, otherwise it worked fine. 3 star it shouldn't be so fragile, and short cord.

I've been 3d printing for years. I ended up with a lot of loose filaments. I bought this to weld my parts. It works great! It takes a while to heat up like a glue gun, but no big deal. I took some of my broken Elegoo filament from years old, and it just works. You press the front button to extrude and press it again to retract. It will not ooze out this way. I like this one because of the grip. I think the more expensive pen will heat up faster, but this works well for me.

I bought this one once the cheaper version. BOTH had buttons completely fail on first use. Neither is useable anymore. One stuck extruding, one won't retract. This pro version has a comfy shape, the button layout is nice. The speed control on the cheaper version is much more functional. This one has options 1-8 that cannot be changed while extruding. Must stop and restart. The slider method used by most other pens feels more intuitive, while still not perfect, is much better than 8 preset choices. The cheaper one heats up a lot faster and is again more tunable than this advanced version. It takes a long time to change colors on either one. The advanced version retract button broke immediately after pressing it the first time (I opened it and looked. The back of the switch case gave out, spring lost). The cheaper version worked for about 35 minutes. (I opened that one too) oddly it never stops extruding even though the "go" button is broken off the PCB at solder points. The extruder on the cheaper version is easier to "write/draw" with. PLA sticks great to paper (color directly on a coloring book page, get it wet to remove the paper afterwards.) Results are pretty amazing after some practice. HOWEVER, I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BRAND.
