I've been looking at the mixed reviews on Amazon. Candidly, I found this to work perfect for my needs. My lawn was mostly dead and any attempts to water would only sprout weeds. I started by clearing the weeds and scarring the soil using Sun Joe AJ801E 12 Amp 13" Electric Scarifier Plus Lawn Dethatcher with Collection Bag . I seeded in fall, when day and night temperatures were within the recommended range. After applying the seeds, I covered them with light coat of top soil. Kept the area moist with light watering (twice daily). Since the seeds are germinating, the point was to keep them most, not soak the ground. After 10 days, the first signs of grass started to appear. A month later, the grass was starting to thicken up and fill in the bare spot in my lawn. I didn't mow it until 40 days and it is doing just fine now. Interestingly, I find that this grass mixture grows at a faster rate then the rest of my lawn. By the time mowing day comes along, the new patch is easily 25% taller than the rest of my lawn. ... show more

I purchased two bags in March, with a freshness date of last November. Both bags were complete duds, with almost no growth. Even though weather was mild and the seed was kept moist. It was especially disappointing because I had more than 15 hours work detaching and aerating the lawn prior. Even more disappointing is the fact that I asked Scotts to honor their money back guarantee for just one of the bags and never received their promised check. I was skeptical after reading reviews. I live zone 10- Satan's heat. We had a sand pit - a dirty, nasty, hellish pit of despair. No life at all. I overseeded* ....We have put in sprinkler system this year too, so these two things helped tremendously. Every seed took. It is nice, soft and thick. Zone 10. ... show more

Planted seed August 28th, lightly covered with topsoil and watered every day. Nothing. I checked the bag and it had dates listed by state when the seed is no good, expired. Arizona was not on the list. Anyway, nothing. Zero growth. Not one sprout. It is Sept. 10th 2018 and no sign of life. Planted in semi shaded area. Just a crap product. ... show more

Before and after photos attached to show how well this grass seed has worked for us. We have had a lot of success with this grass seed in southeastern PA. Our yards are both somewhat shady, but with diligent watering this seed has produced really good results and is turning around our lawn nicely. Pros: -Produces very lush grass with the right watering and soil preparation. Cons: -Tricky to evenly spread without the help of a separate seed spreader, an additional purchase that is almost required. ... show more

    • No prep, easy and works wonders!
We have very high traffic areas in our backyard by our above ground pool and playset area, we also purchased to cover an area in our back yard that we covered with dirt to fix a deep slope. I did very little prep other than raking the surface lightly before spreading the seed! No additional watering other than the summer rains and I was very pleased with how this filled in! No straw, no cover at all and boom...beautiful bright green grass! That being said, this product is the best I’ve used yet I have tried to grow grass in my front yard in traffic areas and in my backyard where it is very shady I already have new baby grass growing after just a couple days! ... show more

I used this to reseed an area in my front yard and the grass looks gorgeous. It's nice and thick and doesn't grow too tall . Thinking that all of Scots must be wonderful, I used Scott's landscaper mix to seed my backyard and grew nothing but garbage. I have a yard full of tall fescue that grows like crazy and looks like crabgrass . I now have to kill the grass in the backyard and reseed with Turf Builder. ... show more

I am from Seattle WA..plz don't waste your money on these seeds it won't work, I suggest to use local Pacific Topsoils primum seeds which are most effective.
