  • The Phocus 1600 is a good (enough) bike for beginners
Color: Black Size: 53cm Frame Style: Phocus 1600
This bike is good value for the money, as most big brands offer their entry level models at or slightly above $1000. I bought this bike at $770 at the time of review on Amazon. It conveniently ships within a few days. I am 5'9" and I bought the 53 cm frame, which works great. I prefer the smaller size always, as it is lighter and easier to pack. The bike needs assembly, so if you are not familiar with bike mechanics, I still suggest to consider going to your local bike store and buying a bike from them, pre-assembled and tuned up. The assembly took me about 1-2 hours, I didn't measure it. The breaks needed a bit of an adjustment, which is just tightening a screw, but the derailleurs needed a lot of tinkering. I was able to do all this myself from past experience and Youtube, but if you are a total beginner, you won't be able to do this and your shifting will be noisy or even worse - throw the chains off your cogs. It is worth noting that the Shimano Claris R2000 group set is not supposed to be noisy or do such things, so if it doesn't work for you, it likely needs adjustments. The bike comes with cheap tubes that popped after a few days, as I left the bike in the car on a hot summer day. Rookie mistake, it can happen to expensive bikes too. The tube also comes with Schroeder valves which are the same as cars, but I found it hard to inflate with a handheld pump. I had to take the bike to a gas station to inflate it to 80 PSI! not convenient. I replaced the front tube with a Continental tube ($15 for two) with a Presta valve which was easy enough to inflate at home with a small, handheld pump. To sum it up, as you see, the bike requires a good bit of assembly and adjustments. If you have never done that, I would suggest cashing out $1000 for a known brand at a bike store and they will tune it up for you. I hope this helps! ... show more

  • Great entry-level road bike.
Color: Matte Grey Size: 48cm Frame Style: Phocus 1500
For the price, this is an excellent entry-level road bike. The flat bar is nice, but the grips slide around and needed to be swapped out (this is the only real negative about this bike, I'd take a quarter star off) The geometry is great for speed and hill climbing. The derailluers shift quickly, smoothly and accurately. They only required a little adjustment out of the box. The brakes do squeal, which is inherent on some disk brakes so Im not sure if the adjustment is off or its just the pads. It was very easy to assemble. Requires only a few basic tools. Adjustable wrench (or open-end wrenches), a set of good hex keys and a screwdriver is all I needed. I would have a local bike professional tune it up after assembly if you don't know how to adjust the derailleur and brakes. However,YouTube has videos and it's not hard once you get the hang of what everything adjusts for. I did need a gel cover for the seat or would definitely recommend riding shorts. I ride about 20 miles a day on this bike and overall am very happy with it! ... show more

  • Defective bike
Color: Matte Grey Size: 48cm Frame Style: Phocus 1500
Clearly sent a defective bike. Paint was chipped off of crank and sleeve is missing, all of the threads in the crank arm are completely stripped, not sure how this happens? Will have to replace entire assembly. Unridable and have no idea how such a glaring problem got thru quality control. I have a 17 yr old autistic sonwho saved and bought this for a yearly trip, he is now the only kid here with no bike for 2 weeks. Way to go Amazon. ... show more

  • Great deal on a good bike!
Color: Matte Grey Size: 48cm Frame Style: Phocus 1500
It's been a while since I've bought a new bike. Never considered buying a Schwinn because I associated the brand with being cheap and old school. Since college I've owned a Nishiki, Giant, Specialized, top of the line bikes. I bought this bike purely based on price as nowadays I'm more a leisure rider. I have to say upon arrival I'm impressed with Schwinn's quality. The bike was packaged extremely well, instructions to put the bike together were easy (about 30-45 minutes), extremely light weight, and looks great. Despite ease of assembly I suggest taking it to a bike shop and have them 'tune' it (about $60) after you put it together or $100 (approx) for both assembly and tune. That way you can be assured everything is calibrated and adjusted properly. Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this bike. ... show more

  • It is a good bike, comfortable
Color: Matte Grey Size: 48cm Frame Style: Phocus 1500
It is a good bike, comfortable, and a lot of fun. The quality externally looks tidy, but I got a busted bottom bracket after only about 150 miles, which should be nothing for a bike like like that, so it looks like a factory defect, or just a bad quality parts. Cost me $53 bucks to fix it.

  • Buy this bike says the Novice Rider
Color: Matte Grey Size: 48cm Frame Style: Phocus 1500
I don't know anything about bikes, I'm a 30+ year old novice when it comes to bikes. I just ride them. Prior to having this outstanding bike, I bought an $80 used bike from Craigslist because I only plan to commute from home to the subway station which is a little over a mile. I live in Oakland and it get hilly and after a month my bike began to have lots of problems. I was working so hard to pedal and it seemed like everyone was flying past me when I was riding the Craigslist bike. Eventually, I preferred to walk but missed getting some form of morning exercise and purchased this bike. This bike looks so modern and very trendy. I leave in a complex where people bike ride and this is by far the best looking bike handsdown. It rides so smooth and now I'm seeing it wasn't that I was some poor out of shape guy on a bike which is why people were passing by me all the time, it's because a lot had better bikes than the Craigslist one I had. This bike is a lot lighter too. I did pay for someone to put it together. I attempted to do it, but then got stock about 75% of the way. I read someone suggested you get it tuned up and I heeded. If you're a novice I suggest you do it too for safety reasons. It was $90 for me. About me, I'm 5"9 215 lbs muscly guy. The bike works for my body type. ... show more
