I bought the ScanSnap iX2500 high-speed scanner to scan many, many 4 x 6 photographs and it does not disappoint! The iX2500 scans documents, business cards, receipts, photographs, and more. The files can be stored on your computer or uploaded to the cloud (requires a ScanSnap account). Inside the box: *ScanSnap iX2500 scanner *Getting Started Guide *Receipts Adapter *Warranty Guide When creating a Profile, the Image Quality only gives a description, not the actual dpi resolution. I scanned photos in each and the resolutions are: Normal = 150 dpi Better = 200 dpi Best = 300 dpi Excellent = 600 dpi The amount of compression for jpg files can be set when creating the scanning profile. The default compression is “Medium” (in Edit Profiles --> Detailed Settings) and I kept that settings on the profiles I created. Interestingly, the photographs scanned without image enhancement and fade correction were larger (around 1.2MB) but photographs scanned with image enhancement and fade correction were smaller, around 500kb. I don’t know why this occurs because all the other profile settings were the same. SPEED As mentioned earlier, the iX2500 is fast. From the time I press the Scan button to the job completion, scanning a 4x6 photograph at 600 dpi is done in about 3 seconds. Scanning the back of the 4x6 photo at 200 dpi, to capture handwritten notes, takes at most 2 seconds. (see the video review for the demonstration). SOFTWARE The ScanSnap Home software has many options including many pre-set scanning profiles. For photos, effective image enhancement, red-eye reduction, and fade correction is available and it works quite well. I won’t say it’s perfect but it does bring new life to older photos. The color is not always exactly like the source but I haven’t had one photograph that is not acceptable. Sometimes, I noticed the red tones in scanned photographs, with image enhancement and fade correction, will have a red tint that is heavier than I think is should be but this does not occur on all pictures (see photos). FEATURES THAT INFLUENCED MY PURCHASE *High-speed photo scanning. *Scan a stack of photographs using the feeder *Simultaneously scan both sides of a document or photo (duplex scanning) *Wi-Fi and USB connection. *The display screen is nice and responsive but I utilize the software controls on the computer. CONCLUSION This scanner is perfect for my needs – it’s versatile, has document feeder, excellent photo scanning capabilities including duplex scanning and image enhancement options, resolution levels from 150 dpi to 600 dpi, and scans photographs and documents exceptionally fast with outstanding results. The hardware and software work well together. This ScanSnap iX2500 does everything I want (and more). I highly recommend it!

I had always wanted a good scanner with an ADF—that is, one with an automatic document feeder. I had bought an Epson all-in-one printer, which included a printer, a flatbed scanner, and a scanner with an ADF, but I was never able to scan even a single sheet using that ADF scanner. I had to use the flatbed scanner instead. After doing a lot of research, I decided on the ScanSnap IX2500. My main concern was paper jams, which was the reason I could never scan a single sheet using the ADF on the Epson all-in-one. The first sheet I put into the ADF on the Epson all-in-one got crumpled and jammed the scanner. I sent it in under warranty, and they returned it to me in the same condition. I was never able to use the ADF on that Epson all-in-one printer. Since I use the scanner to scan students’ exams, I always thought the problem was that the exams got damaged when I removed the staples. The corners of the sheets were bent, and the paper was also warped from contact with the students’ hands. When my new scanner, the ScanSnap IX2500, arrived, the first thing I did was grab a small stack of exams and run it through the scanner. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing: it scanned a stack of 10 sheets, front and back, extremely quickly, and without any jams whatsoever. I repeatedly tested scanning stacks of sheets and never encountered a single jam. The only problem I encountered at first was that on some pages, not only was what was on the scanned side visible, but also part of what was on the back of that page. To solve that problem, I made some adjustments to the settings and also used slightly thicker or higher-density paper. Apparently, this completely resolved the issue. The other issue I encountered is that, for a large number of countries—including all Latin American countries—it is not possible to create a ScanSnap account. This would be important for sending scanned documents directly to a cloud server. However, the system on the ScanSnap website does not allow registration or account creation from a country like Colombia. Even so, the scanner seems to deliver on every promise in great detail. I would recommend it without hesitation. Edited on June 22, 2026 If you want to scan photos, you're better off looking for another scanner. The results when scanning photos with this scanner are quite poor. Even with every possible combination of settings, it's impossible to get a good result.

I had to return several similar scanners until I got this one and it’s for keeps. No jamming, connected straight away with my WiFi, easy setup, good image quality and easy to use.

I've used a similar sub-model to this for a medical manufacturing business. Scanning lots of documents everyday. It never failed so when I wanted to have a reliable scanner for the house, this was the ticket. I installed the software on my PC and had a folder setup within minutes. Scanned documents and saved within 15 minutes.

I purchased to replace NEAT brand scanner and to use it offline while computer is off. It uploads to scansnap (it says it must do this to make functional) cloud first then to neat cloud then to my computer each step OCR analizes then sends to next ....for what purpose? this takes several minutes per pdf. It also does not have the ability to scan wrinkled receipts like the ones out of your pocket. it jams the scanner every time. If you want to separate each receipt its possible but if you have a multiple page pdf or receipt to scan (no matter what the scanner settings say they can do) it cannot make it thru the cloud process to your computer as one pdf. example a 20 page pdf could wind up as 20 separate pdf's mixed in with the 30 separate receipts you just scanned 20 min ago that just now popped up on your program, now spending to next 10 minutes locating all the ones that go together to recreate the single PDF. oops missed one, where is it??????? I have been on the phone with scansnap, Ricoh, and Neat for several days and many hours on phone with remote desktop control help from each, to make it do what my 20 year old Neat scanner could do out of the box. I have since dug my Old neat scanner out of the trash and begun using it instead. trying to sell this richoh scansnap scanner to the next sucker, beacause this process has taken longer than the return time on Amazon. Scanner is great only if paper is new and flat, Software is unusable,,,, although it had so much promise and potential, If it only worked as intended it would be a breakthru of digitizing paper work. It connected easily and quickliy to my computer. Consistant accuracy? ......well if it cannot make it thru all the clouds it says it MUST use then to my computer the way it was scanned then Accuracy is very poor and unusable. Neat / Ricoh if you see this It is imparative for the use of this scanner that it connect the same way the original NEAT twain scanner connected thru the NEAT scan Utility directly. not thru additional cloud services that us NEAT users did not want to begin with. now we have scansnap cloud, Neat cloud, One drive cloud , all to learn and contend with everytime there is an update. Change is not called progress because its differnet. Its called progress because its better, cheaper and easier. All 3 of these rues you have broken.

Just got the ScanSnap iX2500. Set it up wirelessly - used my ipad to scan QR code to connect it to ipad and download firmware update. I did not do any scans, because I wanted to connect my Windows 11 laptop - had to go to snapscan.com/d website to download installation software and then updates on my Windows 11 laptop - also tried to register - not sure if it worked because it hung half way through Finally the scanner and Windows 11 laptop connected and scan went great - but where did it go - then I realized the default place for the document scanned was a folder buried deep - went to settings a figured out how to get it to go to a default folder. Scan was fast and pretty impressive. Setup is really tough - I wish Scansnap would have a pdf for the whole manual rather than on-screen pages. I would consider myself fairly knowledgeable about networks and installing new devices. This one was very tough, although I did it in about 2 hours. That's why I gave it 4 stars, not 5 stars. Works great once you get it configured. I would not suggest a novice try to install this scanner - get a knowledgeable person or geek squad type person.

I've only had this scanner for a couple of weeks and honestly it's already been a game changer for my small business. I run everything out of my home office and the paper clutter was getting out of hand — invoices, receipts, contracts, etc. This scanner has made it so much easier to stay on top of everything. The setup took maybe 10 minutes and I had zero issues getting it going. Now I basically just drop a stack of papers in, press the button, and it handles the rest. Also, the software automatically names and sorts files which I did not expect to love as much as I do. The scan quality is really impressive too. Everything comes out sharp and clear and the text is totally readable, and I haven't had to re-scan anything because of a bad image. Honestly wish I had bought this sooner. If you work from home or run a small business and you're drowning in paperwork, just get it. It pays for itself in time saved alone.
