I bought the ix2500 Photo Edition to tackle a mountain of old photos, and the decision was straightforward. Most other batch scanners in this price range had troubling reviews—scratched prints, skewed images, and outdated designs. The ix2500 stood out as the newest model, and while Ricoh’s website and virtual assistant were no help in deciphering the four ScanSnap options, I went with the most expensive version and hoped for the best. Fortunately, it was the right call. After scanning over 1,000 photos, not a single one has been scratched or misaligned. The scanner handles up to 50 photos at a time with impressive speed, and it doesn’t flinch at mixed sizes or orientations in a single batch. Both the Wi-Fi and USB connections work without problem on Windows 11. While the 600 DPI resolution might not satisfy ultra-high-end needs, it’s perfectly suited for standard 20th-century photo prints and more than sufficient for viewing on modern screens and TVs. It’s also in line with what you’d expect at this price point for batch scanners. The software, however, leaves something to be desired. It’s functional, but the automatic color correction doesn’t quite match the quality of Photoshop Elements, so I use PSE for that step. It’s an extra click or two, but well worth it. My biggest gripe is the user interface—changing file names and folder destinations for each batch requires digging through four or five layers of menus on four different windows. Not ideal, but manageable. Also, the automatic orientation based on face recognition does not work. It is not a practical problem since I can orient the photos in the scan tray so that they are properly positioned. The one thing missing is the ability to scan slides. The 600 DPI resolution would be marginal for that application, but it is better than nothing.

I absolutely love this scanner. Does a much better job than my printer/scanner does and will basically scan almost any size large or small. Scan quality is great and fast. I have scanned over 10,000 photos with this scanner and still going strong.

I bought this to digitalize my photos. I am 71 so I have a lot of prints from before digital photos became a thing. It is a nice size and does not take up a lot of space. Easy to set up. There is a learning curve for the software, but once you catch on, it is fairly straightforward. Scanning goes fast and you can title and date your photos as you go. I do a little each day and back them up to the Google cloud. I found asking Google questions when I couldn't figure something out in the software was very helpful.

Best one yet. This is my third ScanSnap since 2011. Unbelievably fast, high quality scanning. As long as you remember your wi-fi password the setup is painless...I did it after taking a sleeping pill and had no issues. About 15 minutes from unpacking to updating the software to first scan and save maybe 15 minutes. I wonder about the price point, but this is not a product on everyone's desk. Keep it clean and you'll have it for a really long time...longer than me if you are not lazy when packing for a move. I am going to tackle scanning and filing a few generations of photos...not a bit worried.

This ix2500 Photo Edition is okay but the ScanSnap Home software is horrible. Not intuitive like ScanSnap Manager was. You can't use it right out of the box without reading the how to manual and creating the profiles needed. Even then I still haven't figured out what everything means. Had to do a lot of trial and error testing. Then I find out that it will scan your photos backwards since you have to put them facing front. So if you have them in order, you'll have to reverse them before scanning. Then, the first image has no sequential number then the 2nd starts with 001. I scanned them facing down so my images were set at 600dpi, over 1MB, and the writing on the back was over 2MB because the scanning bars are not set equally. Same complaints I read about the new EPSON FastFoto FF-680. Also the scanning bar on the lid is on a spring of sorts so cleaning it feels odd as it moves when wiping. The receipts settings are not so great either as it doesn't actually get the vendor's name. Seems that after Ricoh bought Fujitsu, thinks went downhill. I miss my Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 that had lasted me this long. Also did find some streaks but not as bad yet so we'll see how often I need to clean the glass scanner on it. Otherwise, it seems to be decent enough. The receipts bar isn't easy to snap on either. I need to watch a YT video again to figure it out. So nothing is intuitive in the build. It does scan very fast if you do receipts or documents at basic BW settings. I'm also not keen on the document receive tray as it curves upwards a bit too much and looks odd. So you are scanning in a U-Shape. It goes in the bed and out and up onto the receiving tray. We'll see how much more I discover. This was only my first try with it.

I had 30 years of photos to scan and put on the cloud. I set up the scanner and started scanning, I was able to put a brief description after scanning an entire album, so there was some organization. It came with sleeves so I could feed diplomas or newspaper pictures. The pictures are fast and easy to scan. There were only 2 big problems first it was expensive and secondly I had to call over my adult kids to move them from the scan snap cloud to another cloud. The process took about 30 hours. The hardest part was taking all the photos out of photo books. I filled 2 garbage cans with albums and frames. I then threw out any pictures that were not good. I am giving it 5 stars because I was able to reclaim my space. Nobody was looking at the albums they were just taking up space. Since I finished, they are sharing good photos with family and friends. I was able to revisit all my pictures, my kids too. I didn’t want to be the keeper anymore and now they can be shared easily. Had they set it up for me, it could have gone to the cloud I wanted but me tackling it alone required an extra step that I couldn’t figure out. It was user error on my part. Yet, everything turned out perfect in the end! Goals accomplished!

This ISN'T a photo scanner by any metric known to man. It's a glorified receipt scanner that removes red eye. LOL. What? Auto everything, crushed jpeg saves only, no DPI choice, horrible software and the only workaround is VueScan that costs $70 a year. The machine is capable, they just won't let you do it. Absolutely ridiculous this thing is advertised as a photo scanner. Seriously, you'd get better results using your iPhone hovering above the picture. Im not kidding. It's going back in the box in the morning. Works great, very nearly awesome, rendered useless by Ricoh software for no good reason. ABSOLUTE JUNK JUNK JUNK.
