I bought this particular product because I wanted a one hub solution for my MacBook Pro. I know there are other hubs that retailfor less than $50, but this one had the 1gbps Ethernet which I really needed it to restore my Time Machine backup into my new computer as WiFi was proven to be eternal. The hub works well overall and I have no complains about the looks. I also like that there's a cable connecting to the USB-C port and not only a connector as that be be dangerous if you move the laptop with that connector plugged in that way, so the cable is good for me. My disappointment comes from the Ethernet port. While it's supposed to be a Gigabit Ethernet port, the speed I was having where barely higher than Fast Ethernet (100mbps) topping at 16MB/s at the MOST!!! And I know I'll get some responses about the factors contributing to the decay in speed, but I have a managed switch as home, I have a NAS that is connected with TWO gigabit Ethernet ports using LACP configured on the manages switch (which doesn't mean the loads will distribute as LACP doesn't do that per se but still worst case scenario I'll have a single gb port dedicated to the transfer) and I have Cat 6 cables, everything connected directly to the Satechi Ethernet port (NAS -- > Switch -> Satechi Port -> MacBook... yet, I couldn't get even close to GB speeds... I have a desktop machine also connected directly to the main switch and I downloaded a 4.3GB file using Windows at about 109MB/s so clearly my bottleneck wasn't the NAS, nor the network... I wonder if other have had this experience. I cannot rate this 5 stars. I love the convenience of having all the ports in a single hub, but the speeds I had with this hub were lacking to say the least. I hope they improve it. If I knew this was going to be the case, I would have gotten the cheaper $44 bucks 3-1 Satechi instead of this one and gotten a separate Ethernet port. UPDATE: JANUARY 20th I received a replacement unit and the Ethernet port works perfect!!! I'm transferring at gigabit speeds ~100MB/s One minus issue I noticed is that I have a MicroSD card permanently plugged in to the Hub, and if I connect the power cord from my MacBook to the USB-C passthrough the MicroSD card ejects itself from the MacBook (I get a message it was not ejected properly) Odd.. not a big deal but weird nonetheless.. UPDATE: December 09th 2017 Well.. this thing just gave... lasted a year and days. Was never used in the wild, just sitting on my desk. So reliability is an issue, otherwise it works well when it did... I'm not about to pay $80 per year so I'll buy a different brand. ... show more

This USB-C adapter is very well built and feels very sturdy and also sleek. I've tested all the ports and they all seem to work just fine, with quick transfers (SD cards and USB 3.0 external hard drives), at least enough for my usage, which includes photo and small video transfers. The wire helps a lot when using multiple ports at the same time, and feels very resistant too, although I'm always worried that it'll break when carrying it in a backpack. Like I've mentioned before, build quality is very nice and feels durable too. It's a little pricey for a dongle, but it can do pretty much everything that other dongles offers and, as of now, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase. Update (January 2019): So today I was using the dongle again, but this time, using more than a port at once. I was using one USB-A for my keyboard, another USB-A for my wireless mouse and the HDMI. Everything was perfect, except for the fact that it was very hot, nearly unbearable to hold it. Then, I tried using an SD card to transfer some photos, but the adapter couldn't read it at all. I tried the mini SD card slot too; no results. So I had to use another dongle just for the SD card. I don't know what's happening, but, well, seems like you can't use too many ports at once. Still a good buy, but be aware that you might need another one if you're plugging too many things in it. Updated my rating to 4 stars because of that. ... show more

I purchased a new 2017 MacBook Pro and of course needed an adapter due to the thunderbolt 3 ports. I wanted an "all-in-one" hub and struggled to find the perfect one. Finally, I came across this Satechi Aluminum Multi-Port Adapter. The product seemed absolutely perfect, literally everything I would ever need in one hub at a great price. I am a careful customer and always check the reviews. I was disappointed when I saw this product was not perfect for many people. However, this was the only product I found with ethernet, HDMI, microSD and SD, pass through charging, and USB ports all in one. I purchased the product and waited anxiously. When the product arrived, naturally I tested each port. SD worked great and all USB ports worked great as well. The microSD was a little nerve racking, as many reviews said the port swallows the card, but when inserted with some careful force it works great. Next to test were the HDMI and ethernet. I experienced some issues with these two and decided to send an email to Satechi Support, not really expecting an answer. What I received the very next day was one of the most pleasant surprises I have received. Satechi Support got back to me and showed outstanding customer service by making helpful suggestions. The HDMI problem was solved, it was simply my error as I did not know I had to change settings in my Mac to get ti to function properly. The ethernet was a great battle, and Satechi stayed with me through the whole process. Satechi sent me a link to a driver I had to install for the ethernet to work with the new version of Mac. The ethernet partially worked, proving the hub worked and that there was no more need for Satechi to be involved. However, Satechi went above and beyond to help me and make sure I was left a happy customer. Ultimately, Satechi helped me conclude it was again user error as I was not using an ethernet cable with direct connection to a network. I could not be happier with this product and the support at Satechi. I highly recommend this product to any one in need of a hub that does it all in one. Thank you Satechi! ... show more
