    • This poncho is made from umbrella fabric, and works great!
Everyone's perception of a product is different, so it's not always the best thing to let reviews influence your purchases. That being said, I am very happy with this poncho and am glad I bought it. I'm heading to Scotland in September, and past experience has taught me that there could be some intense rain while I am there. The last time I went, I brought my London Fog raincoat with me. I was very smug, until the day I was caught in torrential downpours. The raincoat's red lining bled all over my clothes, and I was soaked to the bone. So much for London Fog. The best way to describe this poncho is that it is made of the same fabric used to make umbrellas. That should give you a good idea what to expect. It is NOT plastic. Part of its repellency comes from the very tight weave of the fabric. Water can't get through. Just like an umbrella, you don't need to worry about waterproofing it down the road, because it won't need it. It is very supple, and the water just rolls off. It is easy to fold up and put back into the carrying pouch. There are four snaps down each side to create a kind of "arm", and a small elastic hoop at the end of each arm that I can only assume is to hook around your finger/thumb to hold the arm in place. There have been complaints that I've read that the arm isn't long enough, but I find that to just be the nature of a poncho. The hood does have an elastic drawstring, and there are spring-loaded stoppers at each end to prevent the elastic from retracting into the hood, as well as to tighten it around your head. The zipper installation is quite clever, as it has been sewn in--for lack of a better description--backwards. The zipper teeth are facing your body, and the zipper tape faces outward which creates a water barrier of sorts. This is probably only something that a seamstress would notice, but it's a nice feature. As a backup, there is a placket sewn behind the zipper to prevent leakage. There is also one medium-sized zippered pocket. The carrying pouch comes with a plastic carabiner for hooking onto things, but it appears fairly flimsy, and I don't think it will hold up. I plan to replace mine with a sturdier metal one. It is definitely plenty roomy...I can put it on over my backpack purse, and everything stays dry. I LOVE THIS!!! Have been searching for a long time and nothing felt or looked right. I'm really not crazy about ponchos to begin with and took a chance on this one - it was the polka dots that got me and it is FABULOUS. Better than I had hoped. It looks REALLY GREAT on, the material is totally light weight and feels good inside AND outside and FLOWS unlike most stiff rain gear. The zipper front (with lining!!) is simply Genius and when you go indoors you don't have to drag it over your head. The hood works really well - doesn't sag, doesn't droop. The "sleeve" device is so smart with a little fabric hook for your thumbs and plenty of extra material to keep your arms dry. A little deep zipper pocket!! These people have thought it out. Also, if you write to them they have a how-to folding video which shows how to get it back in the carry bag! Just perfect. Btw, on a gloomy rainy day the polka dots are very cheering. ... show more

    • The Burgundy is a Dull Red Weird Riding Hood Color

This was exactly what I expected in terms of function with perfectly adequate performance for the price. Not very lightweight but you want it to be sturdy enough to not rip, so I'll forgive that. The sleeves were also a tad short when you hold your arms out. But the big deal for me was that the color burgundy I thought I was getting was so far off from the photo as to not count as any screen discrepancy. It was a dull red. Makes me look like a very baggy slightly faded Red Riding Hood. The sophisticated and subtle dark burgundy photo misled me into thinking I would be the one moderately elegant human in a poncho. Nope. But, it does work. If you're thinking this packs down like an emergency poncho, it's more like a very fat clutch purse. Note the weight and dimensions if you're hoping to use for a trip and squeeze into a pack--it takes up a fair amount of space. Still, it's way better to have this than nothing and the color isn't hideous, just weird, and it fits over a backpack and the hood is very substantial with a little helpful brim. My husband ordered the deep sea blue and of course it looks quite fashionable and dapper on him. Oh well. If I get lost on the mountain, they'll know where to find me. ... show more

This is a nice quality, rain poncho that stores in its bag. It was easy to put on. It stayed in place. The hood protected my face and hair. I bought an ombre color which I loved because I was different than most people at Disneyland.

This poncho is great in a heavy rain. It would work for trying to bring in groceries, taking a hike, keeping dry on vacation when outside. It has a draw hood to pull up close to your face. That said, I would not use this as a rain jacket to dress up in for church or a night out, as it is not made to be "attractive" in. It is made really big, like wearing a tent over your clothes and pulling it over your head will just mess up your hair if you are dressed up. I purchased this, however, as something to wear when I am going to be out in the rain for a long period of time and want to stay dry. It is perfect for that and very comfortable! It comes with a pouch to put it in and take with you for vacation or camping. It is a great buy for any outdoor people who want to stay dry. ... show more
