  • but all it takes is one bad experience to ruin a brand for you
Size: 32GB Style: Old Generation
I normally don't write reviews, but all it takes is one bad experience to ruin a brand for you. I've bought several SanDisk products in the past and I think this is the first time I've had one brick on me, but after some research, this has been going on for a long time. SanDisk drives are prone to going into "Write Protected" mode where you can no longer add or remove any files to it. In other words, it becomes "Read Only" so you're stuck with with what's on there. I tried several methods of removing the write protection on my drive, but as listed on SanDisk's site, there's no way to remove it or reformat the drive. There is a flaw/bug in this specific drive itself. SanDisk knows about this and continues to sell them to uninformed customers. ... show more

  • Runs hot, writes slowly - not recommended
Size: 64GB Style: Old Generation
This drive runs unusually hot for a plastic flash drive. Even sitting without reading or writing while plugged into a USB extension cable, the USB connector gets uncomfortably hot. No other flash drive I've tried has this issue, although I understand that some metal cased ones also exhibit this behavior. The second problem is that writes are slow, painfully so for small files. I should have paid more attention to the reviews here stating this fact. After doing some research, I bought the SanDisk Extreme CZ80 64 GB flash drive as a replacement. It runs much cooler, and the write speed is 5 times as fast for large files and 20 times as fast for small files (this is with both drives formatted as NTFS). I was even able to pick it up on a Daily Deal for only $7 more than the Ultra CZ48, but even if you have to pay twice as much it's worth it in my opinion. I don't recommend the Ultra CZ48, but I highly recommend the Extreme CZ80. ... show more

  • Disappointing reliability/durability, 2 out of 2 drives failed.
Size: 16GB Style: Old Generation
Ordered two of these drives on 5/24/2018, tried to use them on 5/30/2018 and both stopped working after a few minutes of use. Ran a disk benchmark on one drive, it went into "write protected mode" right afterwards. Tried the second drive and tried to format to NTFS, failed and went into "write protected mode" as well. From Sandisk's knowledge base: "Write protection errors occur when a flash drive detects a potential fault within itself. The drive will go into write-protected mode to prevent data loss. There is no method to fix this. • An excellent 3.0 Flash Drive. About 232GB actual available storage
Size: 256GB Style: Old Generation
PROS: -------- - It's SanDisk; - It's USB 3.0; - It's not too big, and not so tiny that it's easily lost; - Actual available storage: 231GB; I immediately filled it up with 230 GB of music, good transfer speed (in a USB 3.0 port, of course); Always remember, it's a USB flash drive, so the actual available storage capacity is never going to be the full amount of what's advertised. With this, count on about 231GB. Generally speaking, count on 90% (to be conservative). And that's my only con, although it's not particular to this flash drive: is it REALLY so difficult to make flash storage that has the full advertised capacity available for use? I mean, is it?? For example, make the drive about 285GB, so when used, there will actually be 256GB worth of usable storage. ... show more
