The Samsung Portable SSD T7 is the next standard in external storage. With transfer rates up to 9.5x faster than traditional external hard drives and read/ write speeds up to 1050 MB/s, you can move massive files around with unparalleled ease and fluidity. Its sleek, shock-resistant design is uncommonly durable, capable of withstanding drops from up to 6ft, so you can take it on-the-go with complete peace of mind. The T7 is compatible with PC, Mac, Android devices, gaming consoles, and more. Included in the box are USB Type C-to-C and Type C-to-A cables for added convenience. All firmware and components, including Samsung's world-renowned DRAM and NAND, are produced in-house, allowing end-to-end integration for quality you can trust. Performance may vary depending on host configuration. To reach maximum read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s, respectively, the host device and connection cables must support USB 3.2Gen 2 and the UASP mode must be enabled. Based on internal test results compared to a Samsung external HDD 1TB (HX- MTD10EA). The Samsung T7 Portable SSD 2TB External Solid State Drive works as intended. Like many other SSD's, this one is fast. Not only is it fast, it is lightweight, small, carries lots of storage and feels quite durable. Noise? None. The only freezes you would get would be probably from your own computer depending on reads and writes from other storage devices, whether it be internal or external storage. This device will not freeze on you. It is purposely developed for fast reads (view data) and writes (modify data). The computer recognition will see it as any other external storage media. This of course depends on your operating system, as it may use a different file system. This device came with a firmware installer, which you can delete, and if you want it back, you can simply go search up the model number of this device and redownload the firmware. This is a very convenient product, compared to something as slow as a hard drive, this SSD will not fail you. However, do take note that hard drive's last a long time, I have a 15 year old hard drive and it's still running to this day. I am not too familiar with the infrastructure of a SSD, as data is being read and written digitally, but hard drive's are easier to understand for me personally. SSD's do last too, but not as long as a hard drive. But, I am sure depending on your scenario and uses, you may prefer speed over longevity. ... show more

Out of the box, the drive includes Samsung Magician software preloaded. Initially, I thought—great! A handy backup and data migration tool to move files between my computer and the drive. Nope. What I got was essentially a blank screen. I downloaded and installed the software manually, only to be told I needed to update it—again. So, it downloaded a full version and reinstalled itself over the one I had just installed. Why, Samsung? For those who aren’t tech-savvy, I’d strongly recommend skipping this software. It scans all drives, including internal SSD/NVMe drives with operating systems on them. One careless click, and you could accidentally wipe your OS. In my opinion, this software is little more than an ad delivery platform and data collection tool. There are plenty of free alternatives that are safer and far more effective—I personally use FreeFileSync. It’s disappointing to see a major brand like Samsung ship software that feels half-baked and borderline risky. Hopefully, the hardware performs better than the software bundled with it. Now, on to speed tests: Samsung advertises “Speeds up to 1,050MB/s via USB 3.2 Gen 2”. The key phrase here is “up to.” My laptop supports these specs, so I tested accordingly. Using the USB C cable I got 966 MB/s read and 829 MB/s write speed. My older desktop motherboard is gen 1 and gets half the write speed on a USB c Cable. Getting the higher speed depends on your hardware and using the correct cables. Using the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable: I got 40 MB/s write speeds — painfully slow. Using the USB-C to USB-C cable: Write speeds reached 428 MB/s — still less than half of the advertised performance. This was the limits of my hardware on my desktop. The Good: Speeds as advertised. Compact form factor. Fits easily in a pocket. I basically bought this for the size and metal casing. Build feels solid. It is typical cheap consumer memory that everyone else makes. Nothing special. It gets really hot under workload. I am guessing the metal casing is used to try to keep it cool. We will see how long this lasts. ... show more

My brother in law just bought the 2T version of the same thing and he is already having a better gaming experience. So worth the money, and so so glad we have these!
