The Samsung 9100 PRO 1TB has been a great addition to my home lab server build alongside the i7-14700K and ASUS TUF Z790-Plus motherboard. PCIe 5.0 support on the board lets this drive stretch its legs, and the performance has been everything you would expect from Samsung's flagship line. Boot times on Debian are nearly instant and large file operations finish almost before you notice them starting. The sequential read speeds advertised on the box are not just marketing fluff, the drive genuinely flies when handed real workloads. For anything involving big data sets, virtual machines, or heavy I/O, the headroom is appreciated. Installation was the usual M.2 2280 routine. Drop it in the slot, secure the screw, and the system picked it up immediately. No firmware updates or fuss were needed to get it running at full speed. Heat is worth mentioning since PCIe 5.0 drives can run warm under sustained load. My motherboard's M.2 heatsink has kept temperatures reasonable, but anyone using this drive should make sure they have proper cooling in place. It is not optional at this performance tier. Samsung's reputation for reliability is part of the reason I picked this drive, and so far it has lived up to expectations. The 1TB capacity is a sensible sweet spot for a boot drive plus working storage, with larger bulk data living on spinning disks elsewhere in the system. I've been building PCs for years, and Samsung has always been my go-to brand for storage. The Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 4TB PCIe 5.0x4 fits right in with the quality I’ve come to expect. From build quality to speed, it doesn’t disappoint. Build Quality: Strong and Durable The first thing I noticed when I took the drive out of the box was how solid it felt. It’s built to last with a sturdy heat spreader and a well-made PCB. This drive doesn’t feel flimsy at all, and I can tell it’s designed to handle heavy use over time. It’s a high-quality piece of hardware that inspires confidence. Performance: Fast and Ready for the Future The speed on this thing is impressive. I’m using it with my Asus z790 ITX motherboard, and even though the drive shares PCIe lanes with other components, it still delivers the advertised speeds without issue. Whether I’m loading large files, booting up Windows, or transferring a ton of data, it’s smooth and quick. The PCIe 5.0x4 interface means this drive is set up for the next few years, so I’m not worried about it being outdated any time soon. It’s fast enough for anything I’m doing now and should handle whatever comes next (not like there is anything I need faster at the moment :) ) Size: 4TB of Storage Having 4TB of space on an SSD is becoming more mainstream.     • Windows booting and Visual Studio compiling are SO fast!

This drive is so, so fast. While I am not able to max out the advertised top speed of 14,800MB/s sequential read, I do get around 13,000MB/s read and write, which is still great! Windows 11 boots so quickly, and compiling software in Visual Studio on my new build takes under a minute where it used to take 4-5 minutes on my last build. This drive stays cool thanks to the Thermalright HR10 2280 PRO Black SSD Cooler I put on it, topping out at 45C under heavy load and 32C-ish under normal load. I got a great deal on the 4TB at the time and it was a great price for an excellent PCIe 5.0 drive. It's a super fast, great drive so far.
