  • Excellent entry level tablet with Samsung's features and performance
I purchased this specifically because I needed a knock around tablet that was more compact than my Tab Pro 12.2. I was looking more for basic web access, calendar and email on the go, so power and storage were not principal considerations. Also, as an FYI, mine was refurbished and provided by Direct Distributor, and since sellers vary I want to cite my experience with the specific one from which I purchased this. As a basic tablet this is excellent. It has the Samsung user interface to which I have grown accustomed, and even though this is an older tablet with little storage it was still pretty snappy for browsing the web and other common tasks. I also love the display. Despite the lower resolution than most tablets in 2016, it's still vivid and easy on the eyes. I thought 7 inches would be hard to read (after using a 12.2 inch tablet), but it isn't. I did increase the memory with a 32GB SD card I had laying around (a SanDisk Ultra 32GB microSDHC UHS-I Card .) This arrived at 90% battery charge, so I was able to use it immediately. The initial set up screens take about ten minutes. An original Samsung charger and charging cable was bundled with it. Aside from the SD card the only other accessory I bought was a Tab 4 Case, Galaxy Tab 4 7.0-inch case, OMIU(TM)3-Piece In 1 (Black+Purple) Durable Silicone Plastic Combo Shockproof Case , which was less than fifteen bucks and almost as good as a more expensive OtterBox Defender. So total cost of this tablet, extra memory and a decent case was less than 150 bucks! Bottom line: I am thrilled with this tablet - for what it is and what I paid - and have recommended it to friends who are considering a tablet, but are not sure. The performance and features, combined with the low price of a refurbished unit make it a relatively safe, entry level purchase. ... show more

  • Nice tablet for Web browsing, Streaming media, and social networking. Gaming not recommended
This tablet is a little under-powered for mobile games, for my taste in performance. Aside from that this is a very nice on the budget tablet. One thing many of us over-looked is the storage space (8GB). This device comes with 8GB, which can be expanded with additional SD card. But the expanded SD card storage will only store files and pictures, so you will not be able to install apps there. This amount of space may be sufficient for many users, who uses it for email, web browsing, streaming media, social network, etc. But for kids this is a terrible amount of storage, here is why. Right off the bat, the OS dedicates 3GB of that 8GB to it's operation. So you're really left with 5GB of install-able space. As some of you many already know, this is by no means enough for the many games your kids will install. So if you're looking for a low budget device that will please the kids big or small go look for a device with at least 16GB. On the positive side, this device is perfect for the older generations who are not into mobile game and doesn't require ridiculous amount of app space. It has a lot of nifty features and has samsung voice recognition that allows you to speak to open apps and do many nifty stuff. I did initially intended to give this to my 9yr old daughter, but, after opening the box and playing with the device, I realized the storage fell short of my expectation. But it's such a nice tablet that I decided to keep it for my personal usage and ordered my daughter an Asus MeMo 16GB, which was in the same price range with bigger storage & pretty good reviews. ... show more

  • Great tablet with one exception
Great tablet and great value. I had a Galaxy S3 and when the screen went bad I purchased the Tab 4 (refurbished). I use the tablet as a stereo to stream HD music to my wireless speakers and for this it works great. I have a lot of FLAC recordings and the Tab 4 supports the format. My only complaint is Samsung has some deal with Barnes & Noble and so the Tab 4 is also a NOOK reader and much of the GUI is devoted to the NOOK and related items. If I were interested in using the NOOK features this would be great, but I am not and I have not found a way to reset this. If it were possible to disable the NOOK feature or even delete it, I would have given the Tab 4 five stars. The tablet feels more solid and responsive than my Galaxy S3 and the battery seems to last longer, even if I leave the WiFi feature turned on. And the Samsung/Android interface offers many settings and options. But as nearly as I can see, removing the NOOK component is not one of them. ... show more

  • I LIKE IT!
There are so many things you can do with a tablet. Having one is almost a necessity. My intentions for mine are for use as a Roku remote, remotely telling my Directv DVR to record programs, listening to Amazon Music (which is a lot better than the non-subscription version of Pandora), and so many other things that I can't list them... Of course I am swapping around my micro SD cards among my devices so I can put a 64gb card in my new tablet. I have to buy another one, but making sure my Samsung tablet has the maximum capacity is a priority. This is a great little tablet. Even though I paid $80 less than the $200 retail price because mine is refurbished, there are no scuffs or any indications of wear on it. It's new, really. It came in a generic brown box with enough bubble padding to make sure nothing got damaged, along with the USB cable and a plug for wall outlet charging. It has a port for ear buds, which I have ordered and a micro USB port for charging from my computer. Other than a very small user manual, that's all that was in the box. ... show more
