  • Some troubles at first but so far works great for ENTRY LEVEL
Update: 4/6/20 ~ after playing with this for a while I notice it’s scripting is quite primitive. Cannot use the same item 2x in statement or use conditional device as an action item. Like if the light is off turn it on. This seems like a basic function to accomplish but not allowed here. I will likely move to a home assistant to accomplish my tasks. So the bundle was a waste of $$$ for me. Well at first I was having difficulties and I’m very tech savvy. Couldn’t get the hub online at first then suddenly it appears. Maybe it was updating in that time but nothing said so. Then no devices would connect. Finally I pulled everything out waited a bit and hooked it back up again and cleared out my Samsung account and finally things started moving along. I did a lot of research and settled on Samsung for a few reasons •great list of compatible devices •Recognized name so I don’t think they’ll shut down anytime soon •Ease of use according to reviews •Price wasn’t bad for the pack •App design seems fairly easy to use. (But I am tech savvy) Since the coronavirus lockdown I had free time soo I gave smart home a shot. So far so good using the •original motion sensor which works very well. •Multipurpose sensor on the door which is great but the vibration sensitivity is a bit much. It goes off every time we open or close the door. Even if I lean against the door it goes off. A sensitivity adjuster or if statement would’ve been nice. •Plug works great and gives energy use too! •Motion sensor is the biggest miss here. Came with I guess is the 2016 model (F-IRM-US-2) is crap. Literally have to be right on top of it before it activates, especially at night, when you need it most. I bought the newer model (gp-u....) which is better but still not a great distance view. Neither have a sensitivity level and are just plain Motion and Temp. •Water leak sensor thankfully hasn’t gone off yet but the battery is at 89% compared to the motion at 100%. Both installed at the same time is concerning. Especially cause the sensor gets more use. Best of all, all these devices on the hub freeing up my WiFi bandwidth. I just hope everyone else gets on board to be smart things compatible without another darn hub or WiFi. ... show more

  • Good product but has a few flaws
This is a difficult review for me to write because I genuinely like the product. Product purchased: Samsung SmartThings F-MN US-2 Home Monitoring Kit, White This is at least 3 SmartThings starter packages offered on Amazon. From product descriptions on Amazon, I had great difficulty understanding exactly what products were included. There have been 3 generations of hubs and 2 upgrades to the type of sensors included. The newest SmartThings hub has been on the market for over a year as have the latest version of the sensors. I could, by comparing photos, figure out the version of the smart plug included but not the sensors. As for the hub. from photographs on packaging, it appeared to be the 2nd generation- not the latest 3rd gen. hub. I ordered anyway and received the second generation hub. I am okay with this but the listing should identify what you are getting. I really do not know about the contact or motion sensors but SUSPECT they are the earlier generation, not the improved versions. Product packaging is also vague. There is no information or product numbers for the products within the package. This is unacceptable Samsung. I have managed home and small office networks for over 20 years. I actually follow instructions and usually have no trouble. I read the questions and evaluations here and checked out YouTube for information. Installed both the old app and the new Samsung app. Found the Samsung website slow and unresponsive. I actually never got a message the hub was successfully installed. Just failure notices. Finally I noticed the hub showed up on my network. The new app finally found it and I proceeded with the install. I followed pairing instructions. Knowing distance sometimes made pairing difficult, I started with the plug in this kit 5 feet away and moved it closer until it was 6 inches away. The hub could not pair. I also tried another Samsung model plug with no luck. I noted neither plug's model number was included in new app. I eventually, through trial and error, found selections that furthered the paring process but still eventually failed. I abandoned the attempt and tried to update the hub. I tried to force an update but Samsung's site would not update the hub. After 7 hours and at 3:00 am, I went to bed. The next morning, I found a message the hub had been updated. Both smart plugs then paired. Alexa could now "see" the hub and the plugs. The instructions should instruct the user to update the hub before pairing. It does not. Since then, I believe, after Samsung further updated the hub, I lost Alexa's ability to see if a command actually worked on one of Samsung smart plugs. The smart plug did turn off or on but Alexa lost the ability to see this. Called Amazon and then Samsung. Help could not get the product to work properly. Amazon sent a replacement starter kit. I returned this unopened. Finally, I just deleted all connected devices and reinstalled them. IF you delete the devices properly, this works with Alexa. Although the same thing has happened twice more with one of the plug losing contact with Alexa's ability to see if the plug responded to the command [they did in each case]. This happed, at different times with both plugs- only one would have the issue, the other did not. Now I just delete it from Alexa and reinstall. Should not be happening. Working fine but I fear the next Samsung update with reproduce this issue. Other than the above Samsung product issues, the other items attached through the hub are working fine- wifi led bulb and a Roku device. So, I like the product. The second generation of the hub is okay, I like the concept of battery backup but I am not sure the battery backup really works. I have my network modem and router attached to battery back up with the hub attached by eithernet. When the power goes down, I still have connectivity to the internet but Alex goes down- not attached to battery backup, and it seems the Samsung still loses contact with my internet. Batteries installed in the hub were new so I do not why this is happening. I like the concept of the SmartThings system, like having the zigbee and zwave hub systems independent of Alexa. I hope things get smoother. I believe this kit is "old stock". Wish i had better information from Amazon and Samsung before I bought and installed. I would advise a new user to start with only a few devices paired to get things going. I originally thought it would best to use Samsung SmartThings device as my first devices. But the opposite appears so. ... show more

  • Works great! I'm starting to add more devices
We bought an electronic Yale lock for our front door, then realized we needed a hub to be able to monitor it on our phones. I bought this kit and it synced up with the lock nicely. We can make sure the lock it locked, and unlock it from anywhere on our phones. I use the multipurpose sensors on my garage doors. The range is good in my ranch house. They are easy to install, and only the large part of the two-piece sensor is needed. As long as it is placed vertically on the door you can check and see if the door is open or closed, and when the door was last opened. One annoying feature is that the multi-purpose sensors constantly send temperature info to the app, which to me is useless information for my garage. I contacted the help center and they said nothing could be done about it. It isn't really a problem, but it would be nice if it could be disabled. So this doesn't allow me to operate my garage doors, but if you ever leave the house and have a nagging feeling that maybe you didn't close the garage door - this will put you at ease. You can also tell when the kids came home!! I've added two water leak sensors that I've put by my sump pump and along a basement wall. They seem to be functioning well. ... show more
