  • At this price point it's all good
Update March 2018. Had to switch to a LG blu-ray. I have a Samsung Smart TV the 2 components were trying to talk to each other & caused TV viewing, source & screen issues. This Blu-ray worked great, word of warning if you have a Samsung smart TV. My 5 year old Sony B-r died, for $40 & free delivery you can't go wrong with this Samsung. Has most branded service links included, I use it for Netflix. Blu-ray picture quality is better than my old Sony (have not used it for DVD), hook up & operation easy, movies come up fast (faster than my old S), as many people have whined there is no power light to show when unit is on, I will double check this week, believe unit auto shuts off if you remove disc & close tray. Edit Nov 2016 as far as I can tell power does not go off of it's own volition. Leaving unit on may shorten life of the unit, I try & switch off after I eject disc, not losing any sleep if I forget. ... show more

  • Works fine
I would argue that it definitely does not start up in 0.5 seconds, but overall it's fast enough and the picture is clear. I like how thin the device is; it fits between the base and screen of our flatscreen TV. There are a few too many apps and programs on the player, especially considering it must be hard-wired which is not an option for lots of people. But, the menu is easy to navigate and the remote is well-designed. Overall I'm quite happy for the price. ... show more

  • Great!
Good - lacks the bells and whistles of some of the higher priced players but at the end of the day, those are just bells and whistles. I bought this to replace a 5 year old Samsung that had trouble reading discs with even the slightest scratch or blemish. The Samsung BD-JM51/BD-J5100 Blu-ray has a nice on screen interface, is fast to read discs, and plays with no issues whatsoever. I would highly recommend the wi-fi enabled if you're looking to use smart TV capabilities but otherwise a great value on a refurbished item. ... show more

  • Love this player $15 and change well worth it
Works great, bought refurbished, did not see a mark on it although description said it would come with 1/4 in damage on outside. Works great, I don't mind not having power light on it as any device that uses a remote control is constantly drawing power regardless of if it is turned on or not. Has played everything fine, no need for updates (our last one was a piece of junk lg that would not play new movies without an update, but lg did not make any updates so it was useless for anything new that was released. AVOID LG BLURAY LIKE THE PLAGUE, they sell junk that is only good for a year before it is obsolete, and do not keep up with updates so you have to purchase a new model constantly. Ours was a gift.....must have pissed off inlaws lol j/k). It turns on fast, waiting to load disc, has read scratched kids movies on dvd good. For the $15 and change I spent this thing is amazing, for the pice I will be happy if it lasts a few months although it is Samsung so I would imagine it will last quite a bit longer. Any issues will update review. ... show more

  • "certified refurbished"... total BS. Samsung charged us $50 for a broken player.
We paid $46 plus tax for this piece of crap thinking we were getting 50% savings over the $100 brand-new player we had in mind. It NEVER worked properly. It sometimes played movies and sometimes didn't; certain movies would make it totally stop working for weeks and when I went to throw it away suddenly it would start working again. From the beginning it had a bad wobbly base, and emitted a very noticeable high-pitched hum while playing anything. It also caused a great deal of marital discord. I bitterly wished I had immediately returned it (if that's even possible?) just due to the wobble and the hum, but we kept thinking it was user error. Nope. We just now went back and ordered the $100 Sony player we wished we had bought all along. Learn from our foolish mistake!!! ... show more

  • no problems
This is a great blu-ray player. One thing I really appreciate about it might seem trivial, but it shows the value of good design: when you press the eject button (on the front panel or on the remote) it ejects IMMEDIATELY. I have had several dvd players on which there was a delay when opening the tray. When your wife is waiting for you because you're late for dinner and you say, "Wait, let me grab that netflix," and then the tray doesn't open, so you press the button again just as it starts to open and then it closes again, then you have to press it again and wait, it can seem like an eternity. As others stated, there is no visible power light on the front; that's a very minor irritation compared to the whole tray delay thing. ... show more

  • Fast, smooth playing, and logical menus!
We have used this Blu-Ray player for a couple weeks now. We've watched several DVD and Blu-Ray movies from Netflix with only the most imperceptible glitches. Similar results with Netflix streaming. It powers up instantly and starts streaming almost as fast. The main menu screen has everything that we use on it, so no paging through multiple screens. Superior in every way to the Sony Blu-Ray player we took out of service because it was too annoying. ... show more

  • This product was easy to install and easy to use
This product was easy to install and easy to use. I have given it a poor rating however because it broke before a year was out. We installed this in November of 2016, it is now September of 2017 and the player will not work anymore. It started having trouble playing DVDs a few months ago making loud noises and such. But last night we put in a DVD and it went to a static screen with a loud buzzing noise and wouldn't open up to get the DVD out until we disconnected and then reconnected the power cord. Will not buy again. ... show more
