  • They need to upgrade theHallmark+ app in their downliad. Won't run. Says it's outdated.

Samsung claims excellent picture and lifelike vivid color. It's not... It's BETTER that that! Bought this set on the advice of a friend, and I'd do it again Best tv picture I have ever owned.

  • Good, mid-level 4K TV; glad for streaming box so I don't need to deal with Samsung's interface
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
We needed a new 55-inch TV in a secondary part of our house. It was a room that is pretty bright, so we were thinking we'd go more convention LED vs. a less-bright, more expensive OLED, which is our go-to for our main viewing location in the house. This Samsung seemed to have the features we wanted and the price wasn't outrageous, so we thought we'd give it a shot. There's a lot of marketing speak amongst all the TV manufacturers these days, but at the end of the day, my sense is if you are not getting OLED, you'll be dealing with a bit of backlight blooming and the questions are how sensitive are you to that and how severe is it. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the picture quality. I did some dialing in, like reducing motion detection and trying other enhance contrast, and overall, it's pretty solid. It's not OLED like with inky blacks, but you are not paying OLED prices. I'd say, if you are not a videophile and just want to absorb streaming content, it's more than adequate. But it does not measure up to our Sony QD-OLED from a few years back... and I didn't expect it to. Back to setup, it's pretty easy. The TV is pretty light in its 55" size and the legs just snap into place. I'm sure you could do a standard VESA wall mount, but that's not practical for us in the location the TV is going. You run through an on-screen set up routine and then you are good to go. I'm pretty savvy with this stuff, so I know what I wanted and what was superfluous for me. You do have to work with the standard little Samsung remote control -- it's fine, but not my favorite. As far as actual day to day usage, I did install a few apps to mess around with a few of the streaming services, but I'm not at all a fan of Samsung's interface. There's just a lot of cruft and it's not particularly intuitive or snappy. I instead hooked up our Apple TV, and it was just fine and worked as expected. I also have a sound bar that uses the eARC connection and that too was pretty easy to get rolling. By the way, I cannot speak to the sound quality of the built-in speakers, other than for just a few minutes of usage before I had the sound bar hooked. Let's call them, "kind of fine." And that's probably stretching it. All the other "smarts" of the TV are not for me. I'm not into using Alexa or Bixby. And like I said, I'm not looking to use all the built in apps. So for me, it's a pretty decent monitor for my Apple TV and its apps. It's not great at any particular thing, but is pretty solid in that basic setup as a modern 4K display. It's definitely not quite a 5-star TV, but good for us where it is being used. ... show more

  • Truly Impressed with Ease of Set Up & Picture Quality
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
The media could not be loaded. Ease of Set-Up: I found setting up this Samsung 55" M80H TV amazingly easy. After unboxing, I installed the legs (push them in and they click into place), and then I plugged in my cable box and Blu-Ray player (using the HDMI ports). I placed the TV where I wanted it and plugged it into the wall. Once powered up, the TV walked me right through the majority of the set-up!! {Note: I am old school and really would prefer a printed instruction manual but, once the TV was powered on, I saw the icon for the "User's Guide" and that answered any other questions I had.} Installing Apps: I also found this step to be very easy. I have eight different streaming services (plus Internet and Alexa), so it took me about 20 minutes to install them all. (Go up to the app icon at the top of the screen, find the desired app and click install, then enter your log-in info via one of the methods given.) {Note: About half-way through the process, 'SmartThings' told me I had to wait a few minutes as it was updating. I attributed this to the number of apps I was installing, and in a few minutes I was able to continue.} Remote: The trend right now seems to be for small remotes and this one, in my opinion, is small - at just over 6 inches long and less than 1 1/2 inches wide. I like that the bottom 2.5 inches of the remote has no buttons, making it less likely that I accidentally hit a button while holding it. There is a printed instruction paper for the remote included - which I greatly appreciate. Some of the buttons have multiple functions. It took me a couple of days to feel comfortable using the remote; for example = the volume button is not pressed down, instead pressure is applied on the vertical side of the button to control volume. Alexa: Bixby is installed, but it was easy to set up the TV to use Alexa. In order for Alexa to work I found that: the TV needs to be on, I need to select the Alexa app, then push the microphone button on the remote and ask my question. Picture and Sound Quality: I found the colors to be rich and vibrant, and the images to be crisp. This is the third day I have watched the TV and I have experienced no stuttering or pausing; and the sound is clear. I was truly impressed at how the TV is able to adjust the backlighting and contrast for dark scenes (like nighttime scenes) so that I still can see all the details. Recording Shows: I have a cable box through my cable TV provider. I found that I can record shows using the Samsung remote, but I have not yet discovered how to watch them using that remote. It could be because it is a DVR box and not a cloud based storage so, at the present time, I am using the cable box remote to watch shows I record. Overall, I am truly impressed and very pleased with the quality and performance of this television. ... show more

  • Excellent mid-level TV, easy to setup, picture quality depends on source
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
This an excellent mid-level TV (which is say not a high-end TV) that is easy to setup as far as sources (HDMI, streaming apps, etc.), though like most TVs these days, it does take some calibration to get it right—first thing I had to do was turn off the “motion smoothing” so you don’t get the “soap opera effect”—I had to Google how to do that, and it took a few days of adjusting settings to get things to look right. Before the TV would load any apps, I had to reset the Smart Hub (Again I had to goggle why the TV wasn’t loading apps) which was easy once I figured out how to do it. The picture on the TV is very good but really depends on the source: we have Direct TV and its signal is just okay; however, this TV shines with 4K streaming content—this tells me this TV really is specifically designed for streaming-focused watching. Connecting was easy as part of the setup. The remote is pretty minimal, though it does have voice recognition, which is cool. The overall design is excellent, it’s a thin and lightweight TV (quite a bit lighter than the same-sized Sony we have the bedroom). The speakers are okay, we will probably set up some external speakers at some point. Overall this is an excellent mid-level TV, good but not great, the aforementioned Sony (XR55X90L) we have does have a better picture (and much better sound) for about $200 more, so as far as value goes, this is a pretty good price. Very happy with it so far, would recommend for most situations. ... show more
