  • Samsung 55" Neo QLED QN90A 4K Television
Size: 55 -Inch
I don't normally write product reviews, mainly because most things are subjective to individual taste and experience. Keep in mind that your experience may not be the same as mine, simply because people see things differently due to eyesight and so on. In my opinion, this is a very good quality television. Keeping in mind I purchased it less than a month ago and received it on September 11th 2021. I researched 55" TVs for approximately two weeks before settling on this one. I visited a number of retailer websites such as Target, Best Buy, Walmart and of course Amazon. I read many reviews on various brands and models of TVs of this size, Sony, Sony Bravia, LG, TCL, Samsung, Vizio, etc. I also compared features and specifications on the models as I began to narrow my search. I also visited the Samsung wesite to research this particular television. I am not going to go into a bunch of details as you can and should do your own research and comparisons. I also visited several independent testing and review websites such as CNET. I viewed a few YouTube comparison videos as well..mainly between QLED and OLED. I came very, very close to purchasing a LG OLED type television but in the end decided against that type due to the problem of ghosting and burn in that people experienced with the OLED type televisions. I saw this in some YouTube videos of sets that had been tested over certain periods of time. Also, comparisons in how pure black levels were and backlight blooming, etc. The blooming and haloing (white against black) seems to be a big complaint people have of backlit led type televisions and not having pure blacks. The OLED type televisions claim to have the blackest black and no backlight blooming, as they have no backlighting. The led pixels are self lit so they themselves provide the light and color. Therefore, if the scene is black the pixel is off, so you can't get any blacker than that. However, as mentioned before, there is the risk of image ghosting and screen burn in. Especially where tv station logos and banners are present in a particular area of the screen for long periods of time. I received the television delivered right into my living room by Amazon. The box was in great condition so I wasn't terribly worried about shipping damage. The box was designed for ease of unpacking. Simply follow the directions. Basically, you just cut the banding, then lift the box off over the television. The assembly and setup instructions are right on top. There is a box base and foam support for the TV, so the TV should just stand on it's own. Mine did. Then you will lift the tv out of the box base and lay it on it's face so the stand can be mounted. I laid it on my bed. The stand comes in two pieces that will be put together using four provided screws, then the stand will be mounted to the television using four provided screws. I was a bit concerned with the center pedestal type stand, when shopping for this tv but don't worry, the main part of the stand is constructed of a quite substantial and weighty metal. There was a protective plastic film on my television's screen and bezel that will carefully need to be removed. Then follow the onscreen step by step directions to set up the television, Wi-Fi and Apps that you may have (Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, ect.). The remote control requires some getting used to. It is not a conventional remote at all. I was able to navigate the setup fairly easy with the remote but in actually controlling the tv in daily use, I had to later visit the E-manual for more specifics. It is a smallish remote that fits well in your hand as opposed to the big clunky ones we've all had for years, with a button for every function. This remote has some buttons that have multiple uses. The saving grace, if there is one, is the fact that many things can be achieved through accessing of the onscreen Home display using the remotes "home button". I deducted a star for the remote. On the positive side, it does not use batteries. It has a solar charging panel on the back and also can use a usb charger like a cell phone (charger not included). It does seem to last quite well without having to be recharged. I have to say that the television had a beautiful picture right out of the box. It has one of the brightest screens I personally have ever seen. I actually had to go into the settings and turn the brightness down a bit for my taste. It also has bright, vivid but natural colors. Like most modern televisions there are several preset screen setups to choose from or you can adjust everything to your own taste. I will say that this tv has the brightest whites and blackest blacks I've ever seen on this type of screen. Where there are black bars on the sides or top and bottom of the screen for various aspect ratios, the black bars are pure jet black. I have not witnessed any haloing or backlight blooming so far. I had a Samsung curved panel UHD television previously and these things were clearly visible on it. The audio on this TV is exceptional in my opinion for a flat panel television. It has several speakers ...whatever the size but they do a great job. I have no where near maxed out the volume. I believe the specifications stated that this TV has 60 watts of power for the audio. I have no need of a sound bar with this one. I do use an audio/ video system but I only like to use it for theater sound when watching movies, concerts, ect. I don't like to have to use it for normal tv viewing and I don't have to with this set. This television is a bit more expensive than others out there but keep in mind that this television's screen has the latest technology built into it. I hope this helps and I do generally respond to Amazon questions if you have one that I can answer. Good Luck! ... show more

  • Great TV
Size: 55 -Inch
Have had this TV for over a year or so now and it's great. Samsung tvs have always been good to me. I use it for ps5 and get 120hz properly. Picture is beautiful. The remote that charges itself with light is pretty nice. If I had to pick one complaint, Samsung puts ads on the menu the second you hook it up to the internet. They're not absurd or consume a lot of space, but still. And you cannot turn them off. One more hdmi 2.1 port would also be nice but easy to live without. ... show more

  • Fantastic Picture and Sound I highly recommend
Size: 55 -Inch
Update 03/17/21: Added response to blooming comments others have posted We have two Pioneer Kuro TVs in the living room and master bedroom so we're used to outstanding picture quality, perfect colors, zero blooming, no off-axis issues, etc., just no 4K. The Pioneers spoiled us so we're very picky about the other 4 TVs and always wind up with the top models available in the needed size. I received the the Q90A 55 inch March 2 to replace a Samsung Q70R 49 inch in the bright day lit exercise room because it has 60 watts of sound so I can now hear dialog over the treadmill! I tested picture quality watching Amazon's "The Expanse" via the AppleTV in 4K. This show has jet black space scenes with tiny bright white specks of items, the credits are tiny in bright white against jet black. Everything is razor sharp with zero blooming! Just like the plasma! The show contains many fantastic scenes full of dark and bright colors on jet black that are rendered perfectly, while still keeping skin tones natural. However, I feel red is better on the plasmas (LCDs always had trouble with red) but keep in mind I did nothing to adjustments, just out of the box. The main TVs will be replaced with OLED or Micro LED. The 55 is the smallest Q90A, otherwise I would buy a 50, 32, etc. for the other rooms that can't fit a 55. I would recommend the Q90A to any of my friends. The Q90A is a great TV with a stunning razor sharp picture that amazes me, and that's hard to do. In response to the blooming comments: Someone posted pictures of what they called blooming, I saw it one time while paused and it is definitely not blooming. It was in the lower left corner and looked like small clouds (exactly like the posted picture) but there was nothing there since it was a black space scene. I got up close and examined it, I then turned the AppleTV off and the cloud disappeared, I turned it back on and the could was still gone. It only happened once since I got the TV and I use it everyday. I was a TV repairman and been in electronics and computers for 40+ years and here is my take: The LCD was out of sync with the backlighting. Remember, mini LED is new to Samsung consumer TV's and there are a lot more LEDs that need to be in sync with the LCD. I would not be surprised if a firmware fix is in the works. I had a minor and a major setup problem that I am sure will be/is fixed by a firmware. I am posting here in case someone else runs into them, otherwise the TV is fantastic. I noticed a firmware update was ready once I got it working. Here goes: Major Problem: The remote froze right after you select your network and the password screen display. I entered one letter of the password and everything froze. I found that only the power on/off button worked, no other remote buttons worked. I tried a different Samsung remote and it did exactly the same thing, worked once and stopped. After hours of reading web, etc. I called Samsung (not expecting much) and was stunned I only had to wait about 2 minutes and the (very nice) person had me re-pair the remote using the bluetooth setup procedure for remotes. Apparently, at that setup point there is a firmware bug that unpairs the remote! Hope this helps if someone runs into it. Minor Problem: Our prior Samsung TVs automatically recognized the DirecTV receiver and AppleTV 4K. This one displayed video fine but identified them as HDMI1 and HDMI4. I found that if you later setup the remote control support for them even if you don't use it, they change to DirecTV and Apple. ... show more
