  • Significant upgrade over my 16 year old TV
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
I got this Samsung 55-Inch Class Neo QLED TV to replace my 16 year old Samsung LCD TV. The new TV is a significant upgrade. The screen is brighter. The blacks are darker. The colors I can only describe as being more vibrant and they seem to pop off the screen. I watched a few action movie trailers and the display remained sharp even in the fast-moving scenes. Technology has really improved over the years. The new TV weighs around 45 pounds. My old TV was actually a 59-inch, but it weighed about 80 pounds. The new TV uses about 0.3 kilowatts less than the old one, which is pretty significant, being that I rely on solar batteries to power my home when the sun is not out. I stream all my TV content via a computer. I connected my computer to the TV with an HDMI cable. It has an HDMI eARC port, which I connected my soundbar to. The sound quality is excellent. Setting up the TV was fairly easy. Upon first turning on the TV, you can either use the included remote or your smartphone to set it up. I used the remote. I connected to my home Wi-Fi and then the TV updated its software. Once updated, I just followed all the prompts. It is a Smart TV. The apps of different streaming services can be installed during setup or at another time. I connected an antenna and found that the over the air channels in my area all worked well. The channels were all added automatically and did not require any user action other than to let it know I am using the antenna. In my opinion, the price is reasonable for the size and quality of TV you get. If you have an old TV, I feel that it is worth upgrading to something new like this Samsung TV. ... show more

  • Bright Picture, Clear Dialogue, Great for Everyday Viewing
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
The Samsung 55 Inch Class Neo QLED QN70H fits well in my living room setup where most of the viewing is TV shows, dialogue heavy movies like comedies and romance, and a lot of YouTube. Unfortunately, the way the living room is designed, the TV can only be placed directly across from a large window, which made me worry about glare. However, it handles the bright room well. During the day with blinds open, I only noticed glare on scenes that were dark (Photo 1), but outside of that it wasn’t an issue. At night, WOW, the picture looks amazing, and the colors really stand out. (Photo 2 – During Day with Blinds Open ). The picture quality is strong across the board. Colors are bright and vivid, and black actually looks black instead of grey. The 4K resolution keeps everything sharp whether you are sitting close or off to the side. It holds up well no matter the angle. I like this cause my house has an open floor plan and not only is it visible in all sections of my living room but now I can clearly view the TV from my kitchen and dining room without losing out on quality. Sound is surprisingly good for TV speakers. At about half volume, it was loud enough to hear, even from another room. Dialogue comes through very clearly and surpasses my soundbar connected to the TV in that aspect. Due to this, for shows and movies that are mostly talking, I use the TV speakers. Then for music or anything that needs bass, I use the soundbar since the TV itself has zero bass. Setup is pretty simple overall. The TV includes a lot of AI features, which was way more than I would utilize. There is a dedicated Bixby button on the remote that lets you control the TV or ask questions using your voice. The main screen also includes AI driven features like daily topics, Copilot, and Perplexity, which comes with a free 12-month trial and works as a built-in assistant. There is also a generative wallpaper feature that creates images based on your answers to prompts, along with live translation that can translate subtitles in real time. The AI mode can adjusts picture and sound settings automatically based on what you are watching and your preferences (Photo 3). Beyond the AI, there are a lot of useful everyday features. You can use the TV speakers and a Bluetooth speaker at the same time with multi output audio. Brightness can adjust automatically based on the lighting in the room, and you can set a minimum level so it does not get too dim. You can switch from Bixby to Alexa if you prefer that system. There is also a setting to have the TV turn on to your last used input instead of the Smart Hub, which is helpful if you are using a soundbar or external device. Bluetooth supports multiple connections like a mouse and keyboard, and it can auto connect to your last audio device. There is even a smart calibration feature using your phone and the SmartThings app. When I tried this, the calibrated picture did look more realistic, but the default setting was brighter and made the colors pop more, which I preferred so I stayed with the original settings. The design feels premium. The bezel and overall size of the TV is thin (Photo 4), which makes the screen stand out more and keeps the overall size and weight down. The stand is flexible, giving you two setup options, either placing the feet closer together in the middle or spread out on the ends (Photo 5). Best part, there is enough space under the TV to fit my soundbar giving my entertainment center a cleaner look (Photo 6). In terms of ports, it includes 3 HDMI with one eARC, 2 USB-A, optical audio, cable, and an ethernet port (Photo 7). Cons - The TV is limited to a 60 Hz refresh rate and uses HDMI 2.0. Also, the amount of AI can be overwhelming. ... show more

  • Samsung 55-Inch Neo QLED TV — A solid Choice!
Size: 55 Inch Style: TV Only
The media could not be loaded. This Samsung 55-inch QLED TV arrives exceptionally well packaged, with protective foam and a cover that keeps it in perfect condition during shipping. Unboxing is manageable even when working alone—lifting the box off the TV rather than pulling the unit out is an effective approach. Setup is fairly straightforward. The included legs provide a stable temporary setup while arranging cables or preparing for wall mounting. The on-screen setup process is detailed and easy to follow, guiding you through each step without issue. There is a Samsung app which works OK but is not very highly rated. Some features are difficult to find, particularly the input selection. There is no input button on the remote nor is there an input selection on the main menus. The designation of HDMI inputs is deep in the setup menu. I eventually found it but this is a feature Samsung could improve. Once you have that set up, however, you don’t often have to change it. If you find yourself using multiple inputs on a regular basis, a set of notes will serve you well! Picture quality is a genuine highlight. Compared to another 55 inch TV we used previously, this Samsung model delivers a noticeably brighter and crisper image, with strong overall visual performance. It is hard to show the picture quality with an uploaded picture of the TV picture, but trust me... it is very good! The TV does not include screws for wall mounting. A good variety of screws is normally included with a mounting bracket, but since this in my case it required a trip to the hardware story to take care of that. The TV uses M8 1.25 screws, and they do not have a very deep recession so shorter screws work well if you are not using spacers. I purchased 20mm screws and still needed spacers to secure the mounting bracket. Connectivity options are great, with three HDMIs, one of which is rated for eARC audio output. It also has an optical audio out option for digital sound connection to a receiver or sound bar. Overall, this is a high-quality TV with excellent picture performance and solid features. The only criticism I have is the difficulty of finding the input options, but that is easily overcome. This is a good HD television choice, and one I recommend highly. The pricing on Amazon compares well with other retailers. ... show more
