  • Big, heavy, awe Inspiring and astonishing at that price
This is the Barrett .50 caliber of mic stands. It probably likewise requires a two man team, one to carry and aim the stand and one to handle the mics, cables and to sight downrange. It's a shade under 5' tall fully down and the boom is at least 4' fully retracted. The base is huge when the legs are fully extended but it can be left somewhat retracted to minimize the footprint. This boom stand will dominate a home studio to the point of being a menace. I actually heard it laughing derisively at the heaviest tube condenser I could find to mount on it. Reviews elsewhere on the web and the picture cannot convey what a colossus this thing is. Take the largest mic boom you can reasonably imagine and multiply by 1.5 and you're getting into the right neighborhood. If you're being paid to make someone feel they're being recorded in a professional environment, THIS is what you want them standing in front of. ... show more

  • Old stock! Bad packing! Great product!
Well, I have NEVER written a bad review, but.... The mic stand arrived today in the store shelf packaging, nothing more. The box was damaged on both ends! Thanks Fed-Ex! The contents were not packed well enough for shipping. Rather it was meant to be carried home from a store. Numerous nicks, scratches, and paint chips present. Upon closer examination, there are several, obvious black (Magic Marker?) spots that have been touched up by someone. Amazon? Setup: Began to set the thing up and make adjustments, and when I attempted to loosen the knob that allows one to vary the height of the boom, fibrous material fell out of the knob tightening area. Next email will be to Samson about this. Overall: This is a great boom mic! It will work very well in a studio or stage environment. I would have to advise you to buy one of these locally if possible, since the shipping issues outlined above. As if receiving "old stock" from Amazon wasn't enough, they have now stopped stocking it and referring it to others, at a price $10.00 less than I paid! ... show more

  • Beefy Stand.
This thing is a beefcake. I use this stand to hold two pencil mics in an xy stereo layout (stereo bar purchased separately) for drum overheads. Extends high enough and far out enough to have a lot of flexibility positioning the overhead mics. The casters on the base are a nice touch. One gripe is that this showed up without any additional packaging and the boom extension was piercing the top of the box. Item remains functional but I consider that a dodged bullet. I've seen less stout overhead mic stands online and locally for more than twice price of the Samson. This is definitely worth considering if you are on the market for an overhead mic stand. The price is hard to beat. ... show more

  • Good for my use
Used to record choir in church sanctuary with Zoom H2 Handy Recorder, whose weight is pretty benign. Used without casters installed. Design is very functional for my use. If the packaging were not a joke, I would give it 5 stars. Upon arrival, the end piece at the weighted end of the boom had broken off and is apparently irreparable. This does not affect my usage, but may be a problem for others. I have not yet been able to install the retaining pin for the base as the hole for its insertion seems to be too small in diameter. The other retaining pin for the extension works well. Again, for my lightweight usage, this is not a problem. ... show more

  • Best boom mic ever

  • Very stong
good strong stand, I use one for mic and one for lights, very sturdy and well made, unlike the cheap china crap. I know this may have been made in China, however it does not look or feel like it.

  • Four Stars
Great boom stand. Very stable, even when mounting to large condenser microphones.
