The SaltDogg TGSUVPROA 4.4 Cubic Foot Tailgate Spreader features vertical auger assist and an optional vibrator kit that make it a more robust version of the popular TGSUV1B. With a compact size and hitch- mount design, it's a great material spreader solution for an SUV or a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton truck. The spreader features a corrosion-resistant 4.4 cubic foot poly hopper. Its hitch mount can fold away for easy tailgate access and is compatible with 2 in. Class 4 receivers. Its 9 in. poly spinner can cast 1 free flowing rock salt up to 30 feet. A 1/2 HP, 12V motor is directly wired and is controlled by an included variable speed in-cab controller. From the Manufacturer Ideal for residential/light commercial applications. Features an attractive and rugged polymer black hopper and orange powder coated steel mounting frame. Fold-away feature�simply release hitch pin and spreader folds away for easy access to rear door or tailgate. Capacity: 4.4 cubic feet/331 pounds 1 rock salt or similar material. Decent for the money. Works good for small commercial salting jobs. Would not reccomend for big commercial jobs. You can not leave salt in it and travel, as it will drop out bottom. Make sure you wash it after use and especially when done for the season, design allows salt into the motor shaft bearing. It does hang low and I somehow bent my motor shaft backing into a frozen snow pile. Pros: Cost Ease of use Ease of assembly Cons: Easily rusts. Motor hangs low and could be damaged backing into a frozen snow pack, hill etc. Design allows salt to penetrate notor shaft bearings. I have gotten teo of these now and both came with different controllers, one only lasted a couple years before dying, hopefully the “newer design” is better. ... show more

purchased my unit 3 yrs ago. Alot of reviews on here are no fault of buyers or salt dog. So many complain about the auger not pushing the grade of salt they wish. It is advertised that it will only run a certain grade of salt unless you upgrade your auger inside the unit. ( I did and it works as it is suppose to i can run any grade. ) some complain about loosing salt. while traveling from job to job. Again the auger that is in it, is the issue (get the upgrade., it doesnt allow the salt to fall. This disadvantage was advertised ). Some reviews i seen here where talking about the motor ceasing up and showed image. If the oil looks like that from 1 use. You got a used unit. and that is the seller who did you dirty. not the maker. No unit will have sludge in the oil out the factory. Im 3 seasons strong and just did a little upkeep for the start of 4 coming in the next 2 months. I average about 14 storms a year. in Northern New england. ... show more

    • Frame bent and it stopped working.
Don’t get this! Worked great the first 2 snowfalls. Using it the third time and the auger got stuck. Realized that the weight of the rock salt in the hopper had actually bent the steel frame which caused the auger to get pushed up against the steel wall and stop spinning. I NEVER even fully loaded the hopper. I contacted the company about this and got absolutely no response back. Complete waste of money! ... show more

This works well, Puts down salt fast. I added a rear camera to keep an eye on how it was working and it didn't skip a beat. It is used only on the driveway and parking around a church. There is a delay when it is turned on so that takes a little getting used to. I took the 3 year warranty.

I have only used this about a half a dozen times so far and have not had any issues like others have mentioned except excessive use of salt. I just don't drive around with salt in it. I keep how ever many bags I need in the bed and dump one or two in at a time, depending on what I'll need at that time. Easy installation and have never had a jam with the auger assist. I would recommend this to someone that does small parking lots. Probably not the right choice for big commercial jobs. ... show more

Bought the light commercial version of this spreader hoping it would be a better product. Needed at least 4 repairs before we got the thing working consistent. Whatever pin was holding the Spreader/Auger attachment to the motor went flying on the first test run. Then the motor lost almost all it's bolts and was hanging literally by a thread of the last bolt. Re-bolted it with new bolts and used loctite to make them stay put. If you buy I recommend you do this before you put it in use as the way it comes you could easily lose the motor driving down the road and nobody wants that. Also had to reconfigure how the motor connects to the spreader/auger, the way it's designed at the factory is so weak that it simply cannot last, they clearly didn't test this thing in the real world. Ended up drilling out the motor tip and putting in a bolt to make it work and have strength. It was relying on gravity to sit on the motor pin and then a tiny clip to move it. You fill that hopper up with a couple bags and there was no way it could turn it, the motor would just spin. We fixed that and now it can throw material a great distance. We usually only put it on a 1-2 setting on the controller, as it throws it too far. The orange matched our Kubota tractor well. I get that it's designed for a pickup truck but the setup we have on the tractor is essentially the same thing as a truck except that the wires go a much shorter distance to the battery. Now that we've made our modifications it works great. It would be nice if the auger part of the spreader were geared so that it didn't feed the spreader as fast, we end up going through more material than we probably need to. Update: 2 years later and the controller stopped working says there's a short in the motor circuit so now we have to figure that out or buy a new motor. Not a quality product. ... show more

I put this on my 2020 F250 . I had to buy a reducer sleeve from 2.5 to 2 inch for my hitch( was like 12 bucks). wiring was simple , plent.of wire for my supercab. I used it today and it worked good I used regular untreated rock salt, and it worked great. Only advise is after you fill it each time give the disc a little clockwise turn by hand to make sure it isnt jammed from dumping salt in . I'm happy with my purchase. I like the ability to fold it down so I can get my snowblower out of the truck. I should have bought this years ago. I didn't get the vibrator for this and it always emptied completely with out it. ... show more
