  • Decent spreader for the money
Decent for the money. Works good for small commercial salting jobs. Would not reccomend for big commercial jobs. You can not leave salt in it and travel, as it will drop out bottom. Make sure you wash it after use and especially when done for the season, design allows salt into the motor shaft bearing. It does hang low and I somehow bent my motor shaft backing into a frozen snow pile. Pros: Cost Ease of use Ease of assembly Cons: Easily rusts. Motor hangs low and could be damaged backing into a frozen snow pack, hill etc. Design allows salt to penetrate notor shaft bearings. I have gotten teo of these now and both came with different controllers, one only lasted a couple years before dying, hopefully the “newer design” is better. ... show more

  • NO PROBLEMS< DOES THE JOB
This works well, Puts down salt fast. I added a rear camera to keep an eye on how it was working and it didn't skip a beat. It is used only on the driveway and parking around a church. There is a delay when it is turned on so that takes a little getting used to. I took the 3 year warranty.

  • Salt dogg
I bought this for a small business I started and I love it. Its light enough I can take it on and off as I need it. I don't leave it on and I wash it down if I know I'm not going to be using it for an extended time. I also cut a piece of mudflap and made a larger guard for the salt to deflect and keep from going under the truck. I'm very pleased with this purchase. ... show more

Honestly I bought this item thinking it would be better then the cheaper version available. Come to find out it is the same. Only difference is it comes with a controller. I had to assemble on delivery that went ok except i had to use an angle grinder to cut bolts on lid for lid to fit on the spreader. I guess a controller costs around $280 kinda a rip off when you can just get a speed controller for around $15. The controller is useless. Not all buttons work with just the spreader it comes with. Only the power and speed knob do anything and anything over 1 on the speed knob is just to much and will run through 4 bags of salt or more before you can move 5 feet. Also if you leave any salt in the unit, you will lose it on the road. This does not come with vibrator but controller has button for one, So i bought one and had it installed. Another $100 or so. yep definitely had no need for it. Also has a blast button that does absolutely nothing. if you want a tailgate spreader i would recommend getting the cheaper spreader and get a speed controller if needed. and prepare to load as you go when salting. Also recommend getting a camera to see if your spreading. ... show more

  • 3 seasons in. and starting the 4th soon. No complaints.
purchased my unit 3 yrs ago. Alot of reviews on here are no fault of buyers or salt dog. So many complain about the auger not pushing the grade of salt they wish. It is advertised that it will only run a certain grade of salt unless you upgrade your auger inside the unit. ( I did and it works as it is suppose to i can run any grade. ) some complain about loosing salt. while traveling from job to job. Again the auger that is in it, is the issue (get the upgrade., it doesnt allow the salt to fall. This disadvantage was advertised ). Some reviews i seen here where talking about the motor ceasing up and showed image. If the oil looks like that from 1 use. You got a used unit. and that is the seller who did you dirty. not the maker. No unit will have sludge in the oil out the factory. Im 3 seasons strong and just did a little upkeep for the start of 4 coming in the next 2 months. I average about 14 storms a year. in Northern New england. ... show more

  • Should have gotten screwed!!!
Well it's not the highest of quality. Gravity feed. auger assist is crooked for what ever reason, Not sure if welded pieces are crooked or something bent. The orange throat the auger goes through is almost touching. Being crooked the material runs out onto the spinner. No way to stop material from falling out onto spinner when truck is in motion. Okay for rock salt, but lousy for pellet calcium chloride. Went together okay. No issues with bolts. Bolts through plastic hopper to metal plate is okay but on the inside the nuts are just against the plastic hopper. Wiring was pretty simple to run and easy to hook up. I would recommend some dielectric grease for rear connections as they are dry. Mounted to crew cab Silverado with standard bed, so plenty of wire to use with long bed as well. Best for dry material if you're not going to use a vibrator with this unit. Dry, bagged material works the best. I guess I received what I paid for, had I known, I would have ordered the dual geared horizontal auger feed unit (TGS02/TGS03)to control material better, and reduce loss from material falling out during transportation. I might play with it a little to see if I can get auger centered better to control material a little better, but shouldn't have to since purchased new. If this is a sample of Buyers quality, thank goodness I went with a western plow over the snow dogg! Thanks Amazon. ... show more

  • Amazing for the money!
I have ran this salter for 5 years and it’s never let me down just ordered a second one for another truck, at the price point compared to other brands you can not beat it. My only recommendation is when you get the salter take all bolts out of motor and mount and lock tight them. I have never had an issue ... show more

  • Missing a lid, but I don't feel like returning. I just ordered one.
Box was beat up and it was missing the lid. I just ordered a new lid for $65 to save myself time and hassle of the return process of a bulky item. I haven't used it yet, but I know what I ordered. I have a long bed and needed something that I could take off and throw in the back of my truck when doing the tight residential accounts. I ordered spare parts for this when I ordered it since I expect I'll be replacing stuff at 2am with nippy fingers. So I guess what's one more. It's an entry level spreader to get you on the game, so expect to get your hands dirty. Use contact cleaner and dielectric grease octane and your connections should stay in good shape. ... show more
