  • The best crypto wallet so far... Caveats, but great!
So before I start, I want to point out I've purchased and tested 5 different hardware wallets so far: SafePal S1, Ledger Nano S, KeepKey, Ellipal Titan and Trezor Model T. SafePal S1 wins against all of these by far, for my specific purpose - emphasizing that latter part. If you're new to crypto a very important thing to understand is that it's very hard for a crypto hardware vendor to support all coins, or even a great number of coins. Each coin (not "token") uses different algorithms to generate private keys so with all the different coins out there it becomes a task to get these baked into the hardware, slowly but surely they're building the integration but the key point here is every single hardware wallet out there is right now limited. When you take a look at wallets like Ledger and Trezor, beware! Sure they say they support a ton of coins but what they don't tell you is you need to install companion apps on your Windows or Mac to be able to actually access those coins, and it IS NOT managed by their software wallets like Ledger Live and Trezor's Web UI. Mind you, many rare coins may not have mobile friendly wallets and might require a PC/Mac. The SafePal S1, however, is all manageable by the device and it's companion app for Android or iOS, so any coin they advertise does NOT require 3rd party open source wallets to be managed. If you're looking to store common coins (with many under way), including all ERC20 based tokens, this wallet does the job and does it well with no additional software to install, and serves great as a long term cold storage device, especially being air-gapped. If, however, you're looking for a day to day wallet with rare coin support, this is not for you and frankly neither are any of the ones I mentioned above which is 99% of the cold wallet market - you'll have more luck air-gapping a PC or Android device, securing it, and installing a wallet like Atomic Wallet or Exodus Wallet with plenty of coin support. ... show more

  • Lot of Pro little con. Great Wallet for Cheap Price!
Setup was a breeze. Before doing anything, the device wanted to verify authenticity of the hardware wallet. Device showed QR code on the screen which I used my phone to scan. It directed me to a site and entered 6 digit code on the wallet in to my phone and it said it was authentic. and my phone displayed QR code which i used my wallet to scan using its built in camera. It gave me option to start new wallet or recover wallet. This is my first one so i chose Start New Wallet After doing so it made me pick 12,18,24 mnemonic I wrote it down on to the paper and Wallet wanted me to confirm that I had it by pickin right word out of 5 selection one by one Lastly Set my pin 6-12 number and gave my wallet a name and i was done! App and Wallet setup was easy and i've transferred all my Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Ether to the wallet. It looks like the Box design was changed! and device came pre-updated to the latest version! Box seal shows sign of tempering if removed It's very cheap!, easy to use, and has built in Camera. And has iPhone App!(main reason i didn't get trezor) little Con is that the Screen is Fingerprint Magnet and I am considering putting carbon fiber sticker skin for this. Also the Buttons are rubber coated for ease of press. Highly recommended for first wallet! ... show more

  • Works as expected but cumbersome
Having to scan QR codes between the device and phone is cumbersome and sometimes takes forever for the codes to be read properly between devices. The firmware update process is slightly complicated. Honestly the best cold wallet I'm using now is Tangem.

  • No SegWit, No passphrases and forced into their proprietary app for data collection
I really wanted this wallet to be great because of the air gap technology and price, it could have been great but it was developed with several major issues that make it DOA for me and also raises some red flags. 1) There is no support for SegWit addresses. It's 2019 and there is no excuse for this. You can't use this to recover funds from an existing mnemonic if the fund are on SegWit addresses already. And you can't receive new funds to SegWit addresses. 2) There is no support for a custom passphrase, which is an industry standard for BIP39 mnemonics. You can't recover a wallet that was created with a passphrase. This is also a security risk because it doesn't allow user supplied entropy to create your keys and you need to TRUST that the onboard RND doesn't have a bug or was tampered with. And I did read about the TRND and AIS31 but it's still forcing trust in what could be a trustless system. I wouldn't sleep well at night knowing that my funds were at the mercy of how this was implemented. The only way around this is to create a mnemonic with dice. 3 a) The QR codes for signing are encrypted. This means that you can't use this to sign transactions from 3rd party wallets. This is a privacy issue because you HAVE to use the SafePal app, and they will know all of your addresses and funds on those addresses. This is opposed to using an Electrum wallet that connects to YOUR full node so no 3rd party can keep track of your addresses and balances. 3 b) Another issue with encrypted QR codes is that you cannot audit what information the device is sending out to the phone. Another thing we have to trust. There is no reason for the QR codes to encrypt the raw transactions and that is the only thing it should be sending. If someone is looking over your shoulder they can already see all the transaction details in the GUI. The private keys should always remain on the hardware wallet and the signed transaction is being broadcast publicly to the blockchain for the world to see. The only real reason to encrypt these QR codes is to collect all your activity as data by forcing you to use thier app. It's even in thier Privacy Policy stating that they collect all your transaction records and wallet addresses. Or even worse it could be sending your private keys out and you would never know, worse things have happened on accident due to bad programming (Coinomi for one example). Remember with cryptocurrency you should NEVER TRUST and ALWAYS VERIFY! Note to SafePal: I really hope you take these issues into consideration for your next version. You almost have the best hardware wallet on the market. But we want PRIVACY, SECURITY and SegWit! You're not an exchange, STOP COLLECTING YOUR USERS TRANSACTION DATA! ... show more
