When i opened the package it looked as though this was a returned item and i was inclined to be disappointed. I decided to try them anyway and found that these tools work great and seem to be a good quality. I read other reviews about issues with the cutting tips being brittle and breaking while mounting them. I had no trouble. They are very Sharpe. The cutting edge holds up well and they remove wood very quickly. Hard black walnut, hard maple and chestnut. The sanding attachments work nice too. It would be nice to have a few more handles so you could move between tools easier and the Allen wrenches that came with the set are too easy to lose. A nice T handle wrench would make the set a lot better but overall I was very satisfied with it.

although one blade did break while unpacking due to being dropped, the remaining work very well, they’re extremely sharp and cut very smoothly. also, the sanding tool works beautifully, once you get the feel for it, you have to put pressure slightly to one side so it spins properly, pretty simple to figure out. overall very decent set, do not regret this purchase.

I have many turning tools and sets. My older tools are all individual tools with a specific function. Recently more and more tool sets have been offered for sale. Some of the early ones are simple with aluminum handles which hold the various tool heads, primarily scrapers. Most of the sets offered use the carbide replaceable tips. Often the handles are too smooth and not adjustable. This set has a very good handle with a knurled area on the end of both handle pieces. This gives excellent gripping. It can be used with one section or both connected for added length. The solid metal tool inserts fit into the handle held in place by set screws. The inserts can be changed quickly, though it does require loosening/tightening the set screws. The carbide scraper inserts are standard. The very good handle and the solid inserts are excellent quality which is the most important factor in these sets. The set also contains a sanding tool with some sanding disks to try out. It works well and is something that most long time turners already have. If you are looking for that first time or additional set of tools, I recommend this one. It works well, seems like excellent quality and covers all the bases for scraping. It comes in a nice case which I seldom use since my tools tend to be put in a drawer with the most recently used or most often used... handy.

The set comes with the main profiles you typically need: a rougher for getting the shape, a finisher for smoothing, a detailer for fine lines, and a swan neck for hollowing. The aluminum handles have a solid, textured grip which feels comfortable in hand, and I find I don't have to squeeze as hard compared to some other handles I've used, which helps during longer turning sessions. The carbide cutters come sharp right out of the box, making clean cuts on the wood without much effort. Used the rougher on a chunk of elder boxwood and it sliced through nicely. What makes this set particularly useful is its adaptability. Beyond the turning tools, you also get attachments to turn the same handle into a bowl sander. It includes the mandrels and sandpapers for different grits. Finishing up a small cherry bowl recently, being able to switch the handle from a turning tool to the sander attachment quickly using the same grip was really efficient. It covers several steps of the woodturning process within one kit.

I am a novice wood turner. This is a great set for someone like me. It includes all the carbide tools I need for turning. I understand that carbide insert tools are easier to use for beginners than tradition tools that need to be sharpened regularly. The down side of these tools is that there is one handle for five cutting bars. To change to a different cutter you must loosen the existing cutter with a hex key, replace with the new cutter, and tighten with the hex key. Not great if you are using more than one cutter. I do have a second handle that fits these bars. The second handle helps a lot. The handle included with with kit is much better than my other handle. It is heavier and has better grips. Overall I am very happy with this kit. I have not tried the sanding tools that come with the kit, so I can't comment on their use over hand sanding.

I am really impressed with the quality of this set. The handle has some heft to it, but not enough to induce fatigue, and the grip is fantastic. The handle extension tightens into place very securely and the result is a great sense of control. The blade necks are good steel and also tighten into the handle very well. The indexable carbide inserts cut like a dream. It feels like cheating, since I came up grinding my lathe tools from HSS blanks. Replacement blades are readily available and relatively inexpensive (at least, pre-tariff), so I'll be stocking up.
