I needed to make a dovetailed box, and have all the tools I need to do it in my shop. But, I'm miles from my shop taking care of a declining older sister. So, I bought a few layout tools to let me do some precision woodworking with minimal tools. Frankly I'm a little surprised at the level of quality. These knives are extremely brittle. The first set I ordered, the tip chipped off during first use of the short knife on walnut. The long knife with only a handful of uses. I exchanged them for a new set with very similar results. Both new knives are now chipped at the very tip. I will have to grind and completely re-profile the blade to establish the tip again. I recently picked up the Ruitool Marking Knife Set with the bamboo box, and I’ve been really impressed with it so far. If you do woodworking and care about clean, precise layout lines, this set is a great addition to the toolbox. The first thing that stood out was the presentation. The bamboo box is a nice touch—it keeps the knives organized and protected, and it honestly looks great sitting on a shelf or bench. It feels more like a quality tool set rather than something just tossed in a drawer. The knives themselves are sharp right out of the box and hold an edge well. They make crisp layout lines that are way more accurate than using a pencil, especially for joinery work like dovetails, mortises, or tenons.
