I'm a millwright and this is hands down the best chock like and chock The benefits to this chalk line are it reels in extremely fast it has a pocket clip which is huge it has a snake teeth that kind of bite you when you use it but besides that it has a really thin string which is super important when you're doing layout on a huge factory One of my foreman told me about it I take it on every job it's also a little bit bigger than your average one and has some nice grip texture

Bought this for a friend who does a lot of shingle work after having one of my own for a while. I'm more of a jack of all trades guy and I love mine, but he was stuck in his ways after doing his routine for 25 years and just couldn't get used to it. I do a lot of solo work so being able to get my line back without walking back to the end saves me miles and miles of travel over the course of a day or week. Tip doesn't fit everywhere you can jam a traditional chalk line tip in a pinch, but you gotta trade off something. Upgraded the string to a nice braided job, and I'm pleased. I haven't thrown out my Tajima, it's still the right tool for some jobs, but I'm not begrudging either the space in my tool bags.

The hook part isn't tapered/curved/pointed enough to catch on a thin edge, ie metal roofing panels. Even on luber it wasn't great, 1 out of 4 attemps would result in successful snapong the line. The snap back feature is a gimmick too. Mine is so stiff when/if you do manage to get the hook set it just sticks up and never makes it back down to "snap" the hook free. (Mind you I was only able to get the hook to stay a few times without a helper) really wanted to like it, but it's just too much of a pain for its cost. Really like the bright green chalk thay came with it though.

I do residential carpentry and bought this to try out. Overall not a fan, I ended up cutting off the SnapBack hook and replaced it with an old school hook after 2 days. The hook is big and bulky, doesnt unhook as described and, if you need to set a nail to snap a line or use your line to straighten something you can’t because there is no center point on the hook. The gear ratio is nice and smooth and hasn’t binded up on me since I’ve been using it for a week. And the chalk box holds a ton of chalk.

I use this for drywall board and first thing i would like to see is a shorter claw with the same design so i can get accurate corner cuts lined up. having the claw sitting out about a half inch from where it grabs really only makes it good for straight line snaps. i love it but im gonna have to take off the claw and put a shorter one on it. everything else about the design i love. the cord in it is silky to run on your fingers and elastic for stretching tight.
