  • Happy
Everything with this works as expected. The numbers are a little hard to see could just be my lighting. the bolt that holds the marker is recessed and is a must to be able use for depth measurement

  • Got a lemon, great customer service
EDIT: The first one I got was a lemon. The first time I tried it I noticed it was loose. After using it for 10 seconds it came apart (see picture). I contacted the company directly and they answered within an hour asking me if I wanted a replacement or a full refund. I got a replacement and it seems to work much better. The edge is still not very sharp, but that is not a problem. You should probably always sharpen new tools right away. As other reviewers have pointed out, the measurements are unreadable. Again, this is not a big deal. I wouldn't have trusted them if they were. Especially at this price point. All in all, I fine tool. It looks sturdy, except for the glue holding the gauge. Also, even if you have a problem they have great customer service. ... show more

  • It works, but the over quality is not great (update inside)
It came with a bit of rust on one of the cutters, and the gold round plate glue failed so it moving all over the place. *** Update: the seller reached out to me and offered a full refund. Since I am using it, I rejected his offer, but that shows me that the seller really cares about his customers, so updating to 5 stars for that. ... show more

  • A cheap tool that can get the job done.
A few gripes. 1) The brass plate and the collar it attaches to came apart immediately: they were just CA glued together. I put some epoxy between the joint and they should work now. 2) The tightening wheel is too small. I really need to cinch it down to get it not to slide on the shaft. A bigger wheel would mean more torque and less of an issue. 3) The scale is 0.01" too short. Not bad and certainly good enough for woodworking, but I think most folks won't be using it anyway. Looks like it would be correctable by shoving some really thin paper between the blade and the shaft, if you really wanted. 4) Came with a sticker, presumably to put up on your collection... I would have preferred they used that couple cents on some better glue. All in all it's probably what you should expect for under $20. It's one of those Asian knock-off tools where all the pieces are there for something that'll work ok provided you're willing to put in the additional effort. ... show more

  • Works every bit as well as the expensive versions.
I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality of this gadget. It works just as well as the version my friend purchased from Lee Valley. The distance markings are accurate and nicely engraved. Once tightened, the screw keeps the slider in place until I move it. The replaceable scribing wheel is sharp and cuts a clear, visible line. With moderate pressure, it can easily cut a groove deep enough to guide a chisel used with care. ... show more

  • Poor Product, Great Customer Service
I received my marking gauge and noticed immediately that the marking wheel and mounting screw were rusty. I contacted the company who offered to send a replacement. While awaiting the replacement, the two piece head assembly separated making the tool unusable. The replacement had the same issues. I did not go back to the company a second time. For a few dollars more the Shop Fox has a one piece head. I've used that one for months without problem. ... show more

  • Great tool
Haven’t used it much yet but it seems like a good quality tool.

  • Good unit for the price.
Like many others who've written reviews on this product, mine came with the body in 2 pieces. They'd glued it with a tiny amount of something, presumably CA glue and it failed between the factory and delivery to me. Not a big deal though, I just cleaned it of any old glue residue and re-glued it using epoxy. The numbers are nearly impossible to read. I believe they're laser etched but they're tiny and not very deep. If you tilt it so the light reflects off it just so, you can barely make them out. If that's gonna be really important to you, you should probably pass this up. The only other thing that worries me is that the locking screw is really loose in its corresponding hole in the body. There's a LOT of play (slop) in it. If it isn't screwed down tight it wobbles like crazy so I'm concerned it may strip out eventually. Probably sooner than later. I can drill it out to the next larger size and tap it myself if it comes to that. Then I'll just need a thumb screw to match and again, if that's gonna be a deal breaker for you, you probably want to spend more money on higher quality one. But if the money is the most important thing, then the 14 dollars and change is a great price for one of these. Some of the other sellers of these things will charge almost as much for a pair of replacement wheels but Mr. Pen includes them for free. That's also a big bonus AFAIC. Overall, I'm happy with it. ... show more
