My tool arrived very fast and the day it arrived I actually used it and it worked out perfectly. i Love the little spring mechanism in it for the pencil. The smallest size you can scribe is an inch and a half though which kind of sucks but still love it.

I bought these for use doing trim work to try them out. They work fine and allow you to do an accurate transfer of an irregular surface onto whatever material you are trying to mate another piece. This kit comes with a mechanical pencil for use but I've found that the will also fit a Pica pencil. The center section slides down and up the length of the bar and contains measurements allow you to set the depth of the scribe from the irregular surface. The locking mechanism that holds the pencil as well as the sliding bar is solid and does not tend to move in use which would cause a failure in constructing the scribed pattern. There is also a push button that sets a point into the wood allowing the scribe to rotate around the center for circle generations. The only problem I can see is if you attempt to use this in a restricted space where the size of the bar will not allow you to hold the bar perpendicular to the irregular surface.

I like the material and construction of this tool. It has good ergonomics and weight. The scribing function is simple and well implemented, as well as the circle marking one. The tool has two rulers with graduations, one for the contour function that measures from the tip of the tool and the other for the circle radius. For the contour graduation, note that the first number is ½, but corresponds with 1½". Notice that all ½'s are not accompanied by their preceding number. The hanging loop is solid. The locking mechanisms work well. The pencil lock works well with the long tip pencil on the kit. Very good craftmanship on the metal parts. The mechanical pencil is ergonomic and comes with a preinstalled graphite pencil core. It also has an embedded sharpener on the top. This kit comes with six graphite pencil refills.
