  • My continued Rugged Individualism, with an older, wiser, safer way to roll. Yes please! My continued Rugged Individualism, with an older, wiser, safer way to roll. Yes please!
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
Thus far, I'm impressed. I doubt I'll be pushing its limits or, farther than 500lbs but, it seems more stout than the one I've seen in the past. A very heavy unit by itself and I am thankful it breaks down into manageable parts. It was tag-team delivered from Amazon (for good reason- thanks guys!) in one mixed media crate. I like the extra reach this model offers. Unlike one other reviewer, I can't find a "bad weld". Works best on the drivers side of a full size truck because of the ram handle orientation. Its only flaw, is a convenience design that all of them share IMO- It is the need to break the unit down for transport. The potential for improving the "in-place" centering and safe transport of the lift is there, without drilling or augmenting the current design so, I will be doing that as soon as I can. After all, if I need the unit to load material by myself, I'll also need to unload it myself without taking up cargo space or lift more than I have to that day. • Packaging was shredded. Minor parts missing.
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
Packaging was wholly innadequate, pieces fell out when i moved it into the garage. The outer cardboard was shredded, the inner wooden frame was broken. The small clevis pin to stop full rotation is missing and one of the hairpins is smaller than the others (it may be that the smaller hairpin is for the small missing clevis pin, and one of thr other larger hairpins is missing). Other than that, it looks good. I can't wait to use it. ... show more

  • Potentially good design, poorly built, Chances are you’ll need a welder to make it work…not kidding. Potentially good design, poorly built, Chances are you’ll need a welder to make it work…not kidding.
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
There is good, bad and ugly. I have only assembled the hoist but haven’t use it yet so the \functionality part is my estimate. The assembly of the hoist is straight forward and easy for one person. It takes about 10-15 minutes if you’re not in a hurry. The lift has good range and can reach the center of a 1/2 ton pick up. This unit has 2 pivot bearings (big plus) and rotates with ease. The steel used is of adequate thickness for its intended use yet light enough for one person to assemble. The welds are actually pretty good(No, they actually suck and fail). The finish is also good. It is a good design and valve for the money. Yes you get what you pay for I wouldn’t cheap out to get one that doesn’t have pivot bearings (if they cut corners on the pivot I’d wonder what else was compromised). Not so good (Bad): Storage, the supplied cardboard/ plywood shipping, crate is a one and done item. With the crate now in the trash you are left with a pile of metal parts. If you need to take this hoist with you in your truck and even store it, this is an issue. Fortunately all problems have solutions. My solution for this was to build a more robust crate that allows it to be stored on its end to save storage space and use a 2 wheel hand cart to move. (Haven’t decided on how to attach the lid) The Ugly: Since this was built across the big water, I imagine a lot of hands touched it before I ended up with it, so I can’t be sure who to throw under the bus. Just the facts, the crate showed on my door step 2 days early (I wasn’t Home), there was a hole in the cardboard part of the crate, the parts inside weren’t secured, you guessed it some of the parts escaped out the hole. Not in my control to prevent the hole in the crate or locate missing parts. I contacted Amazon and the supplier for replacement of the missing parts. To my understanding, the options from Amazon were ship the hoist back for a refund or replacement. I assume shipping would be on Amazon (maybe) Remember the one and done crate that’s now in the trash and PITA to take this 100 pound plus to a shipping company, so that’s not much of an option. I suppose I could have them send me a new hoist, get the parts I need and send it back. Another PITA. I also contacted the vendor which handles this hoist. I explained my complaint and request for replacement parts So far I’ve not been contacted. In the words of Mel Gibson in the movie “Payback”, “What good are you?” I would really like to give 5 stars and would except for the total lack of customer service. Full disclosure the missing parts are a 1/2 x 2” pin and retaining clip. It’s the little things. Remember, if you fail in the small details, what are the hidden, larger issues that are also failures? UPDATE: I purchased this hoist in August of 2025, the above was my initial review where I gave a 3 star rating. Here it is the end of November 2025. You know that part where I said to be concerned about the small details? Oh, so true I’m changing my review to one star only because that is the worst available. I was attempting to unload a power lift chair from my pick up truck when the hoist had a near catastrophic failure. This was the first time I had actually used it to pick anything up. The Tee bracket which slides into the receiver hitch twisted due to the failure of the welds which rendered the hoist totally useless. This delivery was 400 miles away so now I had to take all this back to my shop where I can unload (with a Harbor Freight Hoist that works) then return to complete the job. My math may be off but that’s an extra 800 miles of driving plus the time I spent messing around with this POS. I waited a couple of days before submitting the revised review because my Dear Departed Mother fronded upon the use of profanity but seriously, come on guys get your S**t together your going to get some one hurt. Your quality control should be more than thick paint over poor welds. It was fortunate no one was hurt and the damage was only to the hoist. I included photos of the broken welds. Oh, I never did hear from the vendor and ended up buying a couple of 1/2 pins on my own dime. ... show more

  • Works great for 5th wheel removal Works great for 5th wheel removal
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
I needed to come up with a solution on how to install and remove my 5th wheel slider hitch out of my truck. I do have to move it a little bit to get to a good picking point but I feel very confident that the lift will do good. The only issue I had was the chain wasn’t long enough since my truck is a little higher and I have a class 5 hitch so I had to buy an adapter. ... show more

  • Light duty crane
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
While assembling this crane, it feels amazing, it feels super sturdy, it appears as strong as an ox, it weighs about 130lbs, building it was easy. After you get past all of that and put it to the test, it has zero flex when lifting myself (260lb) which made me happy. I bought it so I could load and unload a fully loaded tool box from my pickup (about 700-800lbs) now once I started to lift this toolbox, this thing had more flex than a jeep xj without sway bars, this crane was at almost a 45° angle when it started straight. And yes I did have it set to the 1500lb setting. But the adjustable legs at the bottom are just not strong enough to steady it. From the bearing that let's the crane swivel down is very cheap and very sketchy. Now it completed the task at hand just fine, but im sure after 3 or 4 uses it will break. Long story short. If you buy this I would use it for light duty applications only. ... show more

  • Flexes Flexes
Color: 1500 lb truck crane
Purchased because I have several trees to cut up & move. Lifting & stacking 16-18" trunk segments. Works as advertised but find base flexes, allowing boom assembly to lean with only a couple hundred pounds. Found it to flex less if I inserted it straight out back of hitch.
