I bought this product because I have had a lot of donations of yarn 50 lbs. I have 4 ply, silky acrylics, and acrylics. The product works well for half rolls of yarn. Not good for whole rolls. Will not support a full skeins. Will not stay mounted on any surface. If you have a partial skein it works great. Not for silky skeins.

This ball winder is a time saver! When I finish a project and still have half a skein of yarn, rather than putting the floppy empty skein somewhere and hoping it doesn't tangle - I just wind it up into a cake that I can pull from the center! It makes storing my used yarn so much easier! This machine is easy to use and it only takes a couple minutes to get a cake made. The cakes are much easier to store too. Yarn keeps getting caught in between pieces. It’s really hard to use. Only having luck with very textured yarn. Anything smooth just becomes a mess
