From the Manufacturer Specifically designed and patented in 1962 to emulate the mellow sound of an upright bass using flatwound black nylon ribbon, our Tru Bass strings have been embraced by players of all styles. • Upright sound
Size: 5弦 .065-.135 Standard
I play bass for BlueFaith bluegrass and gospel band. Carrying an upright bass around to all our gigs was quite cumbersome. We also have a stick bass and I personally own a great little kala u-bass. I have an Ibanez 5 string and it came with cheap strings and I wanted something more smooth and deep. After reading about these over the years I decided to take the risk on them so I could play it when we were at gigs that were not worried about the traditional upright bass look. I did have to make so adjustments for action and intonation bc they are too heavy for my bass. Typically before a gig I will tune for the predominant keys we play in. They do provide a deep thump similar, but not identical to an upright. I plan to keep them on until they start to breakdown. I may or may not try something different at that point. I would recommend checking the gauge your instrument requires before purchasing so you can avoid intonation and action adjustments. ... show more

I love these strings! Here's my chain... Parker USA Fly 5 string/ 1968 Guild Starfire Bass II (original Pups and hardware ) - Monster Bass Cable - GK RB700 / GK MB Fusion 500 head - SWR 4X12 Awesome strings! I was on the fence with these for a long time. I have had them on my Guild for a long time and love the thumpy warmth. But, didn't know what they'd be like on my Parker. At $40 some bucks for 5 string set, they're not cheap. But after seeing a demo on YouTube, I decide to give them a try. And was I ever, happily, surprised! On the the Parker, the string made the already smooth sound, absolute BUTTER! Nice full bottom end with well defined mids and when I bring up the treble a bit, a "subdued" sprkle. I was worried that the strings would be too dead and suck all the character and life out of the parker...But, instead, it brought it to life. Just so you have a reference, I am not a big fan of the new string "zing" or "klank" or "twang" or what ever you want to call it. I just want to here "tone"! The tone in my head. and these string help me get there! I only play at church. But, the genres that we go through is pretty far ranging. ( no punk or death metal though...) These strings can get me through a contemporary worship set with punch and clarity then to a Hymnal offering with a smoother upright sound and anywhere in between Just gotta know your bass and know how to get the sound you want. Well suited for... Rock ( pick sound is so perfect, McCartney esque ), Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, R&B Not Suited for... Metal, Slap ( although the slap and pluck sounds good to me. Probable not what most slappers are looking for) Best thing? No finger noise. IMO, the finger nise plays a roll in the sound of a guitar and at times it it's an integral part of a riff or lick. But, on a bass, the finger noise is just that. Noise! I don't like it and try to do as much as I can to get rid of it. if you have sound requirements like me, you'll be very happy with these strings! ... show more

  • Blown away instantly~!
Size: 5弦 .065-.135 Standard
I have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly Fretless 5-string. When I bought it, the previous owner had used the nano-web Elixer strings and while they felt great and had a great, full tone, they were not flats so they ate up the neck, and of course the metal caused that well-known "fretless buzz" you often read about. I had tried out a set of "Swing bass" roto's on my Gibson Ripper and it really brought the vintage tone I knew and loved out of the bass, so when I saw roto made a flatwound set of 5 for acoustic basses....well I knew just the bass for the job! You already read it on every review I am sure, but this string makes a world of difference. The sound is clean and very thick. The nylon adds more darkness in the tone than I'd normally aim to have, but that's why God made EQ, so I adjusted the highs a tad and BOOM: problem solved. They feel beyond smooth, and has I put on the first string and began to set and tune it up, I already could hear the difference and was falling in love with the new sound right away! I use this bass extensively in my jazz combo and these strings are leading a whole new sound that myself, the band, and the audience love! On a side note: cosmetically these strings are perfectly suited for the Michael Kelly Dragonfly neck! The black string against a rosewood fretboard adorned with that stunning mother-of-pearl inlays just really makes the inlays stand out. If your fretboard has any special inlays or anything, these strings make them visually pop! The price was reasonable considering just how specific this bass string functionality happened to be (think about it, what are the odds of finding another 5 set of bass strings suited for a fretless, acoustic bass?! It's not your everyday request so to find such a set of strings was a miracle! They could easily charge $70 and know we'd still buy them) ... show more

  • Awesome tone
Size: 5弦 .065-.135 Standard
Amazing tone. Put them on a 4 string hard tail Super Squire P Bass with all the aftermarket hardware. Turned it into a "BEAD" tuned Bass. Added a Graf-Tec nut and had music store install and file the groves. Strings are fat, new A is larger than old E. Low B is the size of a winch cable! Love it! The nylon tape wrap is so smooth and comfortable to play. Always used Fender flat wounds but no more, these are my strings of choice. BTW, bass is red body, white pick guard and black hardware. Bass looks so cool now and receive comments. Good looking. Awesome tone. ... show more
