I absolutely love these! I bought my first one over 10 years ago, it still works like a champ. I’ve bought rebuild kits for a couple times and a battery once. They are super easy and CHEAP to maintain. They clean amazingly well. The old one was kind of a random motion generator, it just sort of drove around for several hours, and when you’d look at the tracks on the carpet you would think that a toddler had been driving it. But it did the job! The little dust bin would be absolutely full. You wouldn’t think that little tiny motor would be powerful enough to do much good but it really is. I love the functionality of these things, I turn it on and I leave. When I get home the floor is clean, how simple is that! It fits any place you want to, I would suggest you use double back tape to tape the docking station down to the floor though because if it’s not solidly fixed, it will be confused trying to dock itself and recharge as the dock scoots around. I just recently bought two more, they are even better than my old one! They were not terribly expensive, so I bought one for my daughter for Christmas and a second one for us. We use this new one upstairs at our business where a lot of us bring dogs to work so you can imagine the dog here. You don’t realize how much dog hair is on your floor until you have one of these things running around every other day picking it up! I use them primarily on hard floors, but it does equally well on carpet. One odd thing though, my upstairs of my house has an extremely high-quality extremely dense carpet and I cannot use it up there because it leaves really bad deep tracks where the wheels continue to run the same path over and over. but on regular low carpeting, normal quality, it does just fine and does not leave deep tracks. It does a great job on all these carpets when it comes to cleaning though, it’s just my complaint about the tires leaving tracks in my deep carpet that I don’t like. The last thing, do not use these on a very deep shag! My daughter had one a few years ago that she used on an area rug that had really crazy deep shag, (so deep that it actually laid over because the strands were about an inch and a half long.) It choked that thing down terribly and ruined it. So do not use it on extremely long shag style carpets. Only use it on very tightly woven carpet or hard floors If you will look at the photo, this is an example of what I’m trying to describe about my upstairs carpet. It’s extremely dense and these are the indentations that chair legs leave. They clear themselves up in just a few minutes, but the Roomba would continue to grind those tire tracks in every day Which did not look like it was real good for my carpet. Our Shark just stopped working and we replaced it with this IRobot Roomba 104. We made a great decision, quality, suction power, smart navigation , long battery run time. I loaded the app, charged the unit and first start this unit mapped my floor plan and then cleaned everything. The cleaning power is much better than the Shark, solid unit, at a much better price. This unit works it way around every inch, rugs, laminate floors, kitchen island. The unit even tells me if it gets stuck, or it runs low on power it goes back to its charger, recharges and returns where it left off, incredible. Easy to program, long battery life, powerful suction and smart nav, cleaner floors and carpets. Happy wife, happy life. ... show more

I purchased the Roomba 105 on a recent sale for ~$200 and have never owned a robo vacuum before. I'm mostly aware of the much older models that bump navigate around homes and do a mediocre job of cleaning. I recently read about the implementation of Lidar for improved mapping in the latest line of Roombas so I thought I'd finally try it out. My first impression of the app is a very bad one. Setting up and connecting the Roomba was very difficult due to the app not detecting the roomba or failing half-way through the connection process. It took me the better part of an hour to get it all setup. After the initial setup, the mapping process was quick and worked very well. You can then use the app to modify rooms, create "no clean zones", and setup routines. However, most of this doesn't work well as the app errors constantly whenever you try and do most of those modifications. After charging the roomba a bit (charging is very slow) I tried it out, as the app map was more-or-less setup correctly after the initial scan. I'm shocked how good the roomba navigated the house with very minimal bumping into things during the cleaning process. When it does bump into something, it is a very light bump, but in general you can tell that the sensors and Lidar do an amazing job of helping the roomba nearly touch every surface without actually touching, so it cleans around edges of rooms and furniture pretty well. The roomba starts each room by cleaning the edges before cleaning in a back-and-forth grid pattern so that it really gets every square inch of the room. It all cleans very well in the dark, so you don't need the lights on. In general, I think it cleans very well except for some spots near cabinet toe kick space since the roomba is a tad too tall to get into that space. It navigates back to its charging station afterwards without any issue. I checked the dust bin after each room to see what it's actually doing and lots of dust and other junk is definitely getting picked up! To improve the cleaning I would recommend clearing the floor of small charging cables and setting "no go zones" in areas where there are thicker power cords as it tends to get caught up in those. Thin, light rugs also seem to flip up on the edges as the roomba passes over which gives it some issue as well, but it seems to do a good job of powering through those issues or backing up and trying a different way around. It goes over small thresholds without issue. In general, I think the Roomba 105 is a very good vacuum-only robot and it makes me want to try out more advanced versions in the future. I'm mostly docking 1 star because the app is terrible in its current state and I hope iRobot puts some significant effort into updating and maintaining the app. The app is integral to the roomba useage and I think people's experience will be heavily dependent on how well the app works in the future. ... show more

I have a 7 year old iRobot and it’s not functioning as well anymore. Black Friday sale discounts prompted me to buy a new one and I’m so glad I did. This guy is more methodical… scans the room and works in a pattern that means nothing gets missed. Also, more suction power so pet hair vanishes. It’s also quieter. I love it! ... show more
