I plan to update this more as time goes by. It's such a good carrier for the price I was hesitant to give 3 stars but the leaking described below was a major issue. Cons - The bag itself has held up in WA states constant and sometimes heavy rain just fine. Everything is dry. The leaking comes from where the straps run through into the doors. Water soaks in the nylon straps then they start to rain at all door entry points. I used some duct tape where the straps enter the door to try and help stop the issue. It has helped the issue but not a resolution. The second issue I had with the carrier was the awkwardness of filling it without the manufactures insert bags. Trying to fill it evenly can be a bit of a challenge. This dented my roof pretty bad after only a few hundred miles. Maybe due to my antenna being on my roof (just like the car in the picture for this product). I wasn't able to fully center it. Pros - My gas mileage has not gone down to much. The design looks sharp on my car and not tacky like some of the storage sacks I've used in the past. Installation was easy only took me about 5 minutes alone. I was able to fit more stuff than expected. **update** took this bag on a 3000 mile road trip all over the west coast. Even at speeds up to 90 a hour the bag did not slide or loosen (used roof mat). Didn't have to adjust the straps the entire trip. Make sure you get a roof mat! This does not come with one and it will slide around and damage your roof without one. Bought this bag over a couple other close competitors, mostly because the size fit my needs a little more. We never got wet, so I can't speak to its water resistant; but it handled some very heavy winds well. We lost maybe 10% of our gas milage (from 41mpg to 36mpg). Our car is a gutless Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback, so I don't know if we lost any actual horsepower. The strap noise is unbearable! And it turned out to be solved with a very simple fix that took me 200 miles to figure out. Take a thin rope and wrap it around both front straps to fold them and add tension. It will stop all noise. In fact, RoofBag, why the hell isn't this an included piece of equipment? It would cost you next to nothing. I was lucky that I just happen to be a genius aerodynamics engineer/restaurant server, who also happened to have an extra cord floating around in my camping box. The straps inside the cabin are a bit of a pain in the ass as well. I didn't take a photo, but in order to keep them out of my face, I had to push them as far forward as possible, which pinned my visor closed. So on the second day, I pushed the visors against the windshield first, then strapped the bag down. The other knock against this bag (or any bag) is that the only way to get anything out is to unbuckle the whole thing; unzip the whole thing; dig around; and put it all back together. In fact, we had at least one day where my wife went without something she wanted, just because it would have been too much of a pain in the ass to get it. If you're traveling a lot and are going to be in and out of your rooftop storage, it would be better to spend the money on a box. My wife and I don't camp often, and live in a city where compact cars rule the land. So this bag is exactly what we needed. It fit everything we needed that didn't fit in our little car. The more we used it, the easier it got to pack and get up on the roof (definitely a two-person job). It didn't annoy us on the road (once I fixed the noise). It stores away to be forgotten (after scrubbing 2800 miles of bug guts off) until we need it again. If it came with its own noise-management rope AND it's own matt to prevent scratching, this would be a 5-star review. ... show more

I recently used the 11 cu ft RoofBag on my 4-door 2009 Ford Focus Sedan without a roof rack for a cross-country trip totaling 3094 miles featuring: - Heavy downpours in Nebraska - Inclines, declines, and 75 mph hairpin turns through the Rockies in Colorado - 80+ mph flat sections through Utah - Intense heat and strong crosswinds and gusts through the Nevada desert The RoofBag was filled to capacity with bags of clothes and performed perfectly. It never shifted, loosened, or damaged. It was surprisingly quiet and easy to install securely. It was easy to clean and the zipper hooks were large enough to install a security lock. I was also surprised that the degradation in fuel efficiency was too small for me to notice, even across such long distances. I used the RoofBag in conjunction with the RoofBag Protective Mat for additional protection for the paint of my roof's car and against any shifting of the RoofBag. I have not used any other roof carriers before, but as an owner of a car without a roof rack, this was a less expensive alternative to purchasing and installing a roof rack and hard carrier. The RoofBag exceeded my expectations and is a solid purchase that I would recommend for those seeking similar solutions. ... show more
