  • It's actually waterproof! Make sure logo is facing forward. Tips to secure in details.
This is actually waterproof. Sat on the roof for over 2 hours of heavy rain, not even moisture got in. Ok, so to secure this your gonna want to keep logo towards the front of the car. You do want to try and fill the bag to keep it somewhat taunt. used a boogie board in the bag on top of my stuff to help secure and provide aerodynamics, and so not to crush my stuff. This helps in securing ratchet straps too. For waterproofing, make sure zippers are kept at end of zipper row after zipped, on side back, tucked in the corner.. like where the zipper ends, and flaps are down covering zipper rows. This will keep it waterproof. To secure I bought ratcheting straps. (for cars without roof rack like me) The ones that come with it (someone opened the box, maybe UPS? and I never got straps.) That's ok as I would recommend real ratcheting straps. Not worth losing everything on the road. 1) The first thing is to lay down the mat on the roof. Then pack the bag, so the front of the bag is lower than the back of the bag. The lay down your boogie board, or whatever long, flat, hard "board" you have, place on top of your stuff in the bag. This will allow the ratchet straps to secure load without crushing your stuff or clothes. Plus it makes it aerodynamic. So the bag should look kind of like a triangle from the side. And it won't crush the bag so much, making it last longer. 2) Ok, back to the straps. You want 1 strap to go from the front driver-side to the front passenger-side. Then another strap going from the rear driver-side to the rear passenger-side. Don't make an X! You will regret it. At the part where the straps go into the car, you can twist the straps to reduce vibrations while driving. Try to keep the straps that goe through the car in a spot where if they drip, they don't drip on your kids, or you. Like I didn't do. Kids loved the extra water play. IF it rains, they will drip if you are just doing this on a car, vs with a rood rack. ... show more

  • Life saver
Let me start by saying my vehicle seats 8 and it has a way to add a roof rack but I didn’t want to spend the extra money on top of buying something to connect to the roof rack to hold our things. I finally made the move with my three children, my two nieces, my cat and my dog from CA to Texas. We sold our home in April and my husband went with his vehicle and another trip with the moving truck in Feb and April. I had stayed in CA until I had finished up some loose ends and in August I took what “little I had lived with left” um no. It ended up being 8 pieces of luggage, the animals, the kids, bedding items etc! I looked on amazon to find the cheapest way to make space and to pray the items got there and didn’t fly off. I drove to Arizona from CA with just my kids and picked up my nieces and got there late sorry the pictures are dark. We strapped the roof bag on and it held tight. No bad weather and rain or anything but as said in other reviews did hear a little wind as we drove. Nothing too crazy though. It held, no rips and the speed limit from AZ and in Texas is all 75-80mph. Never got loose, never moved and didn’t cause any damage or marks to my roof. Was hoping it would hold more items than we could put in but we made it work. The items were different shapes and sizes and with a bag you couldn’t stretch so of course we could only fit what would. With 6 people a large black lab and a bengal cat we needed the space. This allowed me to save money for my expensive move and drive not having to purchase a roof rack and then a hard large luggage carrier that I’d have to store somewhere later. It strapped on and folded up for storage when we got to our destination. ... show more

  • Survived a 3,000-mile roadtrip
My family of for used this on a 3,000-mile road trip with our Prius. It held five pieces of luggage and some various other items. We bought a small luggage padlock to keep it more secure which easily fit through the zipper holes. Everything was kept dry and safe. No need for a roof rack! It comes with a rubber mat that you put on the roof. Then you put the bag on that, fill it up, zip it shut, and use the fabric straps it comes with to secure it to the vehicle. The straps are very secure and didn't skip out of their metal clasps at all. The entire bag shifted towards the back of the car a few times and I had to stop and tighten the straps but that was completely due to natural shifting of the contents of the bag and didn't cause any problems. The bag is tapered so it is taller in the back than it is in the front. My car's has mileage decreased by about 15-20 mpg any time the bag was on the car because it adds a good amount of wind resistance. I suggest doing a test pack on your floor and figure out the best arrangement so you don't have to stand on your tippy toes while it's on your car's roof. By the end of our road trip the rubber mat began disintegrating, but that wasn't a big deal and is to be expected. It can be easily replaced. After the trip we used it once more to go about 50 miles and holes began to develop in the bag. I can see the tough fabric underneath the rubber coating as a testament to it's good quality. I'm planning on buying some rubber patches to repair the holes and continue to use it for future trips! Great investment on a budget. ... show more
