  • Feature rich budget TV
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
Why I ordered this item: My old TV finally gave up on me and I needed something for the bedroom. I've always liked Roku as a platform and a 50-inch 4K set at this price seemed like a good deal. I've used Roku sticks and boxes for years, so I was curious to see how their own TV stacked up. Likes: * The picture is crazy good for the price. I watched a nature documentary on it first and the colors were punchy and the detail in the 4K footage was spectacular. It doesn't look like a budget TV at all. * Setup was fast. I had it out of the box, mounted, and streaming in under 30 minutes. The Roku interface loaded up immediately and finding my apps was simple. * The voice remote is excellent. I use the voice search constantly now. Finding a show across all my apps at once without bouncing around is super fun and I can't believe how well it works. * The automatic brightness adjustment is something I didn't know I wanted. My bedroom gets a lot of afternoon sun and the screen adjusts without me touching anything. No likes: * The built-in speakers are fine for casual watching but nothing special. I ended up plugging in a soundbar pretty quickly. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: This is a really well-made TV for what it costs. The picture quality and the Roku interface together make it feel like a much more expensive set. I had it out of the box and running with no fuss, and nothing about it felt cheap or cut-corner once I started using it. ... show more

  • Ez for a Grandma to get a good, new TV
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
I'm so thankful for the whole "buy a new TV" process.....I was scared to death about getting a new TV but this ROKU TV has been just as good as my older Samsung that ROKU replaced. The price difference was a blessing as it saved several hundreds of dollars from 2014 Samsung Black Friday purchase. When I started to look for a new TV ROKU was sold out and I was not supposed to be able to get one until mid February .... BUT ..... it came well before that. I could handle setting it up (because of my wonderful GrandSon) .... but it was easy enuf to do by myself! One thing I like a lot is that this TV does turn itself off after an extended time - not sure if that can be changed. And, one thing I think is a bit negative is the sound is much lower than previous TV - not sure if that can be changed? But, I can turn it up and I'm looking forward to getting an outside speaker possibly. The beautiful picture is awesome and I'm thankful for all of the programming I have available. Today's TV is amazing because I can remember the first RCA TV my childhood home had. One of my family's life memories is my dad turning on the "box" and when the TV came on I ran up my Dad's leg screaming & pointing "Pic Pic, Daddy. Pic Pic!" ....... hours in front of that TV box watching Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob got me thru my early years. Yes, the TV box practically raised me. I loved it then & even more now because of the big wide screen, the beautiful colors, and variety of programming. ROKU is awesome. PLUS....the big pieces of carboard that I cut from the packing box have served as window covers for me during this recent terrible below 0* weather. I tuck them into my window frames at night and remove them when the sun comes out in the morning. I can tell a big difference in warmth in my LR ..... "Who knew?" ... show more

  • Great picture, sound is good, but not great
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
We had an older Samsung; that we used with a Roku box; that finally died and replaced with a smaller screen Vizio. We didn't care for the Vizio, even with using the Roku box. We found this and was thrilled. We like the Roku ease, since we are familiar with the program, and since it Roku, we don't need the Roku box. We started using a Roku stick 10 years ago and have just kept with it, up grading when one dies to the next level. The Roku box we have is the gaming box and we liked it; it gave good picture quality and loaded fast. This Roku tv has good picture quality, reasonable sound quality, and loads well, although a little slower that the Roku box loaded. Not enough to be concerned about. I don't use the voice commands, so I can't comment about that. If you remember that this is a TV and not a sound system, I think you will like it. It doesn't rattle or buzz. For the price point, this was a good buy for us, and I would buy again. ... show more

  • This TV is a Pleasant Surprise!
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
Update: (8/8/24) There's still a lot to love about this TV, but the remote is *not* one of them. For one thing, it's super sensitive, so even an accidental bump can result in the TV suddenly changing to a different channel or service, a pause in the show, or even the TV shutting down. That's pretty annoying, but the worst is that it sucks the life out of the 2 double A batteries needed for it to function (and I'm using a fresh batch of Duracells). I haven't had this TV for very long, but I'm about to replace the batteries for the 3rd time under normal use conditions, without using the voice function. And if you plug in headphones, expect to change them even more. I did that twice and ended up having to change the batteries for that. What this remote needs, no, *must* have in its next incarnation, is a rechargeable battery with a USB cable to charge the remote like any other device. And yeah, it would be nice if the buttons were easy to use, but not so easy that the coffee table can turn the TV off if it's bumped. 🤦♀️ ************************************************************ ORIGINAL REVIEW: My Samsung SmartTV picture died and after troubleshooting to determine the picture had indeed croaked, I started looking for a replacement. I'd been spying TVs at Costco, but decided to see what was offered here on Amazon. This RokuTV caught my eye because of the price. It was more than reasonable for a 4K 50" TV. I thought about it for a few days and then decided to get it. It arrived the next day. The TV is ridiculously lightweight, which was a bonus for me. It was easy to set up and was ready to go in minutes. I already have Rokus throughout the house, so I signed into my account and all my apps were there on the homescreen. I logged into all my existing accounts and was ready to stream as usual in about 10 minutes. I then checked out the live TV options. Setting up so that I could catch local broadcast channels was easy. Just a toggle to antenna in the setup (just like other TVs). Roku Live TV channels also populated and added hundreds of channels of free content, much of it useful (movie channels, music channels, topic-specific channels, etc). There will always be something to watch with this TV. The TV comes with a channel guide. A bonus feature of the channel guide is that it is user controlled, i.e. it moves as slowly or quickly as you want it, so you don't have to wait while it slowly scrolls. Lots of information about the shows and channels is included as well, and you can favorite channels as you go using the options button (*) on the remote. The channel guide only works for live TV, and is easily accessed by pressing the left arrow on the remote. Volume control is on the side of the remote, which is handy, but the remote (like all Roku remotes) is super sensitive, so you can (will) sometimes accidentally mute, increase/decrease volume, change channels or go to the streaming homepage. Minor annoyance, and certainly better than other remotes that require a hard press of the buttons to get anything done. The remote also has a 3.5mm mini-jack headphone jack on it (!) which is a great bonus! It can be voice activated as well by pushing the mic button, but I'm not going to use that feature (I draw the line on IoT devices beyond a smartTV), so I can't speak to how that functions. There are dedicated buttons for streaming services on the remote (these are different on every Roku remote we have in the house, so your results will vary). There are also 2 shortcut buttons on the remote that you can easily program, and an instant replay button. The remote is just a tad heavier than other remotes, but that is actually a good feature: the remote feels good and fits well in the hand. It also takes 2 AA batteries which is a huge bonus over 2 or 3 AAA batteries. The only drawback to this remote is that it lacks number keys, which means you have to quickly scroll through the channel guide to get to your live TV channel. OTOH, most people will probably just use the voice controls to access a channel quickly. So far, it's been a minor inconvenience; if I watched more broadcast TV it would be annoying. The TV has 4 HDMI ports, 1 USB, 1 LAN, RCA IN (only) connection, 1 optical port, antenna/cable connection, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The Dolby Sound on the TV is clear and there is little to no distortion at full volume. Sound settings can be changed to match audio output (e.g., music, movies, etc) or just left on auto so it adjusts on its own. The TV can accept Roku Wireless speakers that upgrade to 2.1 sound, but I've not figured out how; the TV does not support bluetooth. Alternatively, you can use the HDMI 1/eARC port for your ARC/eARC home sound system. The auto brightness on the TV is a nice feature and offers the appropriate visibility for specific lighting situations (i.e., bright daylight, nighttime, no light). Dark scenes in shows don't wash out in darkness or in bright light surroundings. The TV does not support web browsing, but it does offer screen mirroring (found in advanced system settings) to allow you to connect to a laptop or tablet. The Select Series is the low-end of Roku TVs, but it's a substantial improvement over my Samsung SmartTV is every way. And, for a low-end version, it's a good TV at a bargain price. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that a higher-end version would have, but if all you really want to do with it is stream shows and movies, you really can't go wrong with this TV. ... show more

  • Pound for pound Roku has the best entertainment solutions at low end cost.
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
If you went to Target, Walmart or even Amazon, you could find several 42" and up sized HD4K screens from all the big names. SONY, LCM, Panasonic etc. etc. etc. And you would pay out the nose for those screens. And I'm sure they all are fine products. But they all have the same thing in common. 1. Expensive. Ranging anywhere between $450 to $1,250. Depending on size and features. Obviously companies like SONY and Panasonic who have built a name for themselves as producers of high end electronics, have set their sale price quite high. And worst of all somehow can justify that high price with the quality of their product. But then there's.... 2. Ease of use. The big brands while make big beautiful screens, they also make quite possibly the most complicated ones to use. Figuring out how to navigate through all the different options for aspect ratio, sound, color, HD etc. is mind boiling. By the midway point you feel like you need a PhD to figure out everything. And more then likely also need an interpreter to read the instructions for how to use the remote. Not to mention hiring someone to professionally install for you after you realize you haven't a clue what you are doing. So now your out of even more money. The Roku screens on the other side are absolute dreams. 1. They cost so little. I bought a 50" HD 4K screen for $249.99 . It arrived by a professional delivery driver from Amazon. The packaging was very secure. Complete instructions in how to unpack, setup and plug in were in English and also had pictures to explain the process. 2. Ease of use. I plugged my TV in and turned it on. As it searched for my home WiFi, I put the batteries in the remote. The remote then automatically links itself to the TV. And boom, I'm done. That's it. The TV is like HD for dummies. Basically it's just plug in and enjoy. My remote also has a microphone on it so I can simply push the mic button and say what I want and it finds it. It also has an earphone jack so I can plug in a headset and can enjoy what program it want to watch without disturbing others who don't want to hear what I'm watching while they've doing other things in the house. Plus there's an app you can download that links a remote to your phone or tablet so you can use them to select what you want to watch or listen to. That's right, you can Bluetooth your TV through your phone or tablet and wirelessly listen through Bluetooth headphones or speakers. There's no need for a degree in HD technology to figure out how to do that. Roku makes the easiest to use and navigate screens on the market. Not to mention the cheapest (lowest priced models) in comparison to everything else out there. You'd be a fool to buy anything else!!!! ... show more

Bought this for the little ones room. The price could not be passed up for a 50' with Roku installed on it. Delivered right to my front door in Alaska. Cant beat it, until I opened it. I was amazed with the quality of the TV and it not being super heavy. Made it easy to install. The picture is really good and has good blacks and colors and brightness. It is a smart tv and hooked up immediately to the internet with no issues. It starts up quick when turning on and shuts down quickly. We haven't experienced any glitches or issues at all. The instructions and settings are easy to navigate. Very good deal and will be buying more of Roku's products. ... show more

  • Roku Does Not Honor 1 Year Limited Warranty
Style: Roku TV 50" Select Series 4K Size: 50"
I can't believe I'm resorting to writing a review. I purchased the 50" TV back in June. A couple of weeks ago the speakers started fading in/out and now whenever there is bass, it is unintelligible and very crackly. See video with volume on. That's not a bad phone recording. That's what the speakers on the TV sound like all the time. All I watch is YouTube and stream some shows, so it's not like I personally blew out the speakers blasting music. It was outside the 30 day return window for Amazon, so they suggested working directly with Roku since they have that 1 year warranty. Funny enough, Roku suggests working with Amazon. Over multiple calls with Roku's customer service they tell me I should receive an email with further directions/follow-up and then hang up. The email never comes. The only time I made traction was when I started a new call with an Amazon employee and had them on the call with me while talking with the Roku representative. They even chimed in when Roku was trying to redirect me back to Amazon's customer support. This finally gets through to Roku support, they tell me they will ship me a replacement TV and give me a ticket number to write down, and an email confirmation should come shortly. Both me and the Amazon said, "Great!" Well the email never comes. After a few days, I call Roku support with the ticket number and they have no idea what I'm talking about and start me back at square one troubleshooting for the TV (literally turning it on/off again). I call Amazon literally this morning and they again tell me to work with the manufacturer. This has been a miserable experience. It's such a stupid first world problem and I just want my money back at this point. I hope your TV works well and you don't have to follow up on any warranty. I will not be purchasing a TV through Amazon or a Roku device ever again. ... show more
