Last year we had an absolutely heinous carpenter ant infestation. We rented an old downstairs apartment from a seriously cheap landlord. He used cheap poisons and baits that the ants flat out ignored after we told him about the infestation. After a month with no relief let alone a resolution. I literally couldn't take it any more and looked for the absolute best thing we could get to kill as many types of insects as possible. Enter Cimexa, stage right. If it has a carapace ( a segmented body ) this will dry it out and kill it deader than disco. So in an overreaction from the creeping weirdlys ( waking up from a nap on the couch after a carpenter ant fell off the ceiling onto your face will do that to you ) I treated the basement and the entire first floor with this stuff which took 2 bottles at 18 bucks a piece. Cheap enough for me and not so surprisingly within 5 days of treatment we didn't see another damned ant. We also didn't see another spider or silverfish or any other type of creepy crawly. Fast forward 10 months and a new neighbor moved in upstairs within 3 weeks he was complaining of bites with no visible bugs found to blame. Turns out he had gotten bed bugs. That were left over from the LAST TENANT that had moved out 3 months prior to him moving in. The upstairs apartment was utterly writhing with the things yet we had no clue about it. The landlord never told us and according to the upstairs renter he didn't tell him either. I'm assuming that this stuff acted like a barrier. Since bed bugs will move both vertically and horizontally to find a new food source once the old food source gets wise and buggers off. Mind you I was very liberally applying it including mixing it with water and spraying it on the walls and ceiling. Since I literally had carpenter ants climbing up the walls and on the ceiling in broad daylight which are usually signs of a significant infestation. The only conclusion I can come to is that they had expanded their colony from the large oak tree in my backyard into the basement of the house my apartment was in. All of the ant activity took 5 days to get rid of and I never even knew about the bed bugs until my extremely unfortunate new upstairs neighbor moved in. I'm sure the ants are still trying to get into the house because 1) I never treated the exterior with poisons and 2) carpenter ants like to nest in wood. However I wouldn't know since I moved out shortly after finding out about the bed bug infestation upstairs. I will never rent any place again without first liberally applying this miracle powder all over the joint. If left undisturbed it lasts for 10 years before reapplication is needed and it kills any segmented insect including ants, roaches, bedbugs and termites. If I were a landlord I would drill holes into my walls and spray this stuff in there I would also spray my attic/crawlspace and basement with it before and after any tenants move in or out. This stuff is literally the bomb for any kind of segmented insect you want to kill. This powder is finer than Talcum powder and since its 100 % silica I used a dust mask when applying it. I don't know if you can get silicosis from inhaling it but I definitely wouldn't chance it. It will dry out your skin if left on it for prolonged periods of time and would probably aggravate asthma during and shortly after application in those suffering from it.

Cimexa dust does what it is supposed to do. You lightly dust your carpet, furniture, and other fabric surfaces that are infested or at risk of being infested. The bugs travel through the dust and it dries them out and kills them. It will handle a light-to-moderate infestation. For heavy infestations, you will need to take additional steps to contain your problem. There are a few things you NEED to know about this product (or any product of this type): 1) ALWAYS wear a mask when applying this product. If you inhale this dust, you WILL regret it. 2) It will take time for this product to work. It kills live bugs, but it will NOT kill the eggs. Therefore, you will need to apply, wait for eggs to hatch and reapply. For a moderate infestation, it may take 3-4 months for all the eggs to hatch and bugs to die. 3) This product is not infallible or perfect. None are. You NEED to purchase and install mattress, box spring and pillow covers that are bed bug rated (these have special zippers and fabric that non-rated covers do NOT have). Put these on after you dust the mattress and box springs (do NOT dust your pillows or inhalation risk will be high; it is much better to buy new pillows). If you want to speed up the process, use heat or cold. If it's summertime, turn off your A/C, turn on your heat or use space heaters in the infested areas and crank them up all the way. If you can get the house/room up to 118*F for at least 8 hours, the bugs AND their eggs will dry out and die. The Cimexa will kill off any stragglers. If it's wintertime, take all infested items and leave them outside in temperatures below 20*F for at least 9 hours. It will freeze the bugs and their eggs and kill them off. The Cimexa will, again, kill off any stragglers. It is best to do this process, wait two weeks and do it again to make sure, but generally one time plus Cimexa will solve your problem unless you have a very serious infestation. In any event, this product is far more effective than other "remedies" out there like diatomaceous earth (which doesn't work at all and studies show its ineffectiveness). Cimexa is a slightly weaker version of what professional exterminators use in their treatment programs (thus the reason you don't need a license to purchase or apply it). If you have a bed bug problem, buy this, apply it, put on your covers, heat or freeze your items and be bed bug free once again! Knocked a star off for its cost because those most affected by this problem are those of limited resources and the cost to treat an infested home with this product can really add up for those on tight budgets.

This is an extremely good deal for how effective it is at killing bed bugs. There is no pesticides in this dust what so ever (it's silica gel, the same exact stuff you find in a pack of beef jerky or when you buy a new pair of shoes, just finely ground up to a powder), so you don't have to worry about them gaining a resistance to it as this works by the particles attaching themselves to the bug as it walks over it and dehydrating the bug eventually killing it within 2 days or sooner if they aren't full adults. It won't kill the eggs, but if you manage to find some and dust on or around them then they will die once they hatch. It is also safe to put in open areas like in between couch cushions, all over a carpet (provided it's not in a commonly used walking path as you will just kick it up) and even your bare mattress, just be careful not to apply it where direct skin contact can happen as it will dry your skin but a little lotion will fix that. What some people don't understand is that THIS DOES NOT KILL ON CONTACT, but as soon as they walk over it they are as good as dead and with any luck they make it back to their nesting place and attach the dust to the others killing them as well. Do yourself a favor and buy a belows applicator and a fine bristle brush/cosmetic brush along with this as it will make it much easier to apply, otherwise you can kind of use the bottle it comes in to puff it out provided you don't tilt it too far down as you will spill a bunch of it. The best part is that this stuff is rated for 10 years if not disturbed, so you can lay this down and be protected long after you get rid of the infestation so another doesn't start. Heres hoping this gets rid of my problem and I'll update in the future. Edit: Almost a month in and I'm seeing results already. I'm finding dead bugs near areas where I treated with this powder and haven't seen a live one moving around in over a week now. I know that these bugs will go into a sort of hibernation state if they can't find a host to feed on, but I'm prepared to wait them out while staying behind a protecive barrier of this powder. This stuff works, just be smart in how you apply it so they can't take alternate routes to get to you like the walls and ceiling. Edit 2: It's been over a year since I've seen a live bug after using this. This stuff works.

This thing works to keep out and kill so many types of bugs that it's mind blowing. Ants, cockroaches, bedbugs, lice, and tons of other insects! I put some of this stuff behind my sink and at the edges of my tub, as well as around anywhere the ants seemed to be entering or coming to often, and the stuff worked really well! I haven't tried yet, but I'd recommend making it into a paste as it suggests that you can do on the bottle's directions. This way the dust can't blow away or be kicked away as easily! Best part is that since it's literally just plastic dust, there's no reason for animals to take interest in it. There's no smell or anything that would attract them. Dogs just ignore it, and cats probably would too. I do want to specify that since it's a dust, it works best inside the house, since it might just blow away outside or (if a paste) dry back out then blow a way. Put it around any entrances and water sources inside your house to keep the ants out! If you use this to prevent new ant infestation and use Antguard (Antguard is an ant bait that's pricey but lasts a loooong time and helps a ton with stopping ants! It's the only thing that works for getting rid of them at my house) So, use Antguard (NOT pet safe tho, but it's a gel so you can just place it in discreet or high places) to get rid of any anthills, nests, or other spots of ants you see inside and outside. Then, use this silica dust around the house to keep ants from returning! Oh and don't get me started on silverfish. I HATE silverfish!!! They're so gross and freaky. We kept getting a few in the bathtub! But I learned about this silica dust and dusted it around the tub real well, as well as shook a bit of it down the drain... And there hasn't been any silverfish problems since! I'm telling ya, this stuff is great! It seems expensive, and when you pick it up it's super light, but keep in mind that it's just plastic dust! Of course it's light! Don't worry, you get PLENTY in there. I've barely made a dent in the amount so far! It goes a long way.

I found one bug in February after getting a bite two nights in a row. I brought in a bedbug expert with a sniffer dog and we could find no evidence of more bedbugs, but the dog did get a positive trigger on one corner of my bed (which has drawers under it.) The expert suggested I get Cimexa, put it in a spray bottle with water (not as directed) and spray it EVERYWHERE in my very small bedroom. Panicked, I used 1.5 bottles (1 is enough for a whole house.) I used the bottle directions and sprayed in cracks before following her direction about spraying en masse. I used a mask. After the initial dusting, the dust was wet so didn't cloud up a lot but I almost immediately regretted not sticking to the directions on the bottle (which was my fault) rather than adding the expert's suggestion. The bottle had no warnings on it as to toxicity. I noticed right awawy that the dust dried out my skin and hair, I still itch all the time. But the real worry is when I read further on the effects of silicosis from prolonged exposure. I'm quite worried I've compromised my lungs—even with the dust mask. The end result, after a few months, HAS been no more bugs of any kind. So on that score it seems to have helped prevent a possible outbreak. But my concern about the pesticide under my bed and it being kicked up by breezes or summer fans has grown. I've now gotten rid of my bed and mattress and spent time scrubbing this pesticide entirely from my room—apart from cracks If you're brighter than I was, and can control your initial panic and use ONLY as directed, you may have great results and no regrets with this product. But I'd definitely do some reading up on determining safety first. For my part, I wish I'd never purchased it, and I'm just hoping I didn't screw up my lungs. So... two stars for possibly preventing the bugs, and one because it was my own stupidity that resulted in over-exposure, but minus two for a lack of warnings on the bottle, severe drying and itchiness, and general concerns over using silica gel safely in the home. YMMV

As soon as we identified we had bed bugs, we spent a lot of money on ways to get rid of them and spent a lot of time cleaning, washing, drying and freezing everything we could. We bought tons of alcohol, an expensive steamer that didn't work, Diatomaceous Earth and many other products that DIDN'T WORK. I can't tell you how much I HATE bed bugs. They are evil! They are very hard to get rid of as they are immuned to over the counter sprays. Alcohol mixed with water and other products might kill them on contact, but it's impossible to find every single one because they hide everywhere and they move very fast. Nothing we did worked. We kept seeing them and kept getting bit. Then, I heard about Cimexa from the Poor Man's Advocate on You Tube and so far we ARE very pleased and grateful to have learned about it. As soon as we received Cimexa, we started powdering with the puffer all throughout our house and furniture and started seeing less and less bed bugs. It's important to purchase the puffer with Cimexa to be able to cover a lot of space and more evenly. This is another small purchase you won't regret. We also put powder in containers that we saved from cottage cheese and put each bed leg in a container with powder because bed bugs don't jump, they crawl. The only way to get to a mattress is to crawl up a bed leg. We did this to the couch too. We started noticing them less and less. There was even a time we didn't notice any for a couple months. Then, when the people who lived upstairs moved out, we started seeing them again. We powdered again and went upstairs and powdered the empty apartment and left it there for as long as we could. Ever since we powdered the upstairs, we haven't seen one bed bug or any other bug for that matter. Yayyyyyyyy Oh my goodness, I cannot tell you how thankful we are about this. What a relief! If Cimexa is left undisturbed, not swept away or get wet, (it cannot get wet or it won't work) it can last for up to 10 years. So, it's important to powder all areas that you can, then don't bother it. I really feel if you can't afford an exterminator, Cimexa is the BEST thing that can be used and my family would agree. They HATE these bugs as much as I do and the price for each bottle is reasonable, very affordable. I feel like putting poster board up all over the city to advertise Cimexa, so people don't have to drive themselves crazy or waste a lot of money trying to get rid of bed bugs.
