  • This review is for real musicians and DJs that have to invest real money.
Style: 15" - 8 Ohm
If you are like me and have invested 1000s of dollars into your gear, you need to keep an open mind. Buying the gear we have been told you must have to be a serious DJ or musician may just be a result of brand loyalty and marketing. I tend to be loyal to Korg and Apple, so I am preaching to the choir. I am a musician, keyboardist. I also do one man band shows. I also DJ between sets. I require speakers that can reproduce every range from 808 bass to a piccolo. Drum tracks must kick, snares pop, cymbals must ting. I use a Korg Krome, Korg Microarranger, iPad with Whoop Triggers, MKsensations and Gallieo Organ, and Macbook Pro with Mainstage and Abelton. Why so much? I have a hard time trusting in a computer exclusively after 30 years of playing. Also, I like options on the fly. As you see, I am not new at this. To get the sound I want I have been using an Ampeg 4 x 10 bass cab with horn powered by Crown Amp, 2 custom built 15 in 2 way mains powered by peavey amp, 1 Mackie powered sub. Mackie FX12 mixer ties it together. This give me the sound and power I want, but is very heavy. I wanted to go lighter on the cheap for gigs 100 people or less. I ordered 1 RSG 15 and a RPM85 powered mixer just to see what they could do, expecting to hate them both and return them. Cost 250 for both. I set it up in my church to see how it would sound with volume pushed up. I was blown away. The 3 way speaker hits every range. I don't need the sub, plenty of power. I love it. I believe I can do a gig for 200 with 2 RSG 15s and 300 if I use my Sub. The RPM85 could use a 10 band EQ, but that not under review. 2 speakers and the Mixer will cost under 400 bucks. People mentioned they need to be EQed. Well, every system needs to be EQed, right? These are loud speakers, not precision sound for audiophiles to sit around at sip cognac while they listen for fingers hitting guitar frets. These are work horses. What sounds better, a live concert or cd with headphones? What is more fun? I don't know what kind of wood, glue, cones, and all that other stuff. I know they sound great, and if I knew what I know now, I would have ordered 8 of them for what I had 2 customs built. And still have money to buy another sub. Do like I did, and buy 1. I bought the used one for 98.00. I did not expect to love it, but I do. Oh, durability, I don't care for 100 bucks, I don't plan on abusing them, and if I break it, I will buy another. If you are OCD about your gear, I understand. You will loosen up as your back and shoulders show age. Hope this helps my brothers that have to buy, move setup and breakdown their own gear several times per week. ... show more

  • Great speaker for non-professionals on a budget that want big sound.
Style: Dual 15" - 4 Ohm
Okay so after owning and using this for a while I feel like I can talk about it. I have this paired with a Rockville amp and play music regularly. I turn it up quite high semi often as well. There are three types of people and this is for only one of them. Who it’s not for; people playing very large and regular gigs. If you’re a professional or someone that expects to put this thing through it’s paces a lot don’t buy this. I haven’t had any issues with it but I’m a business major and know that something was trimmed somewhere to make it cheap enough to sell. It was probably components. It sounds great and honestly it does the job very well when I do 50+ people parties with my friends (been a while since the last). But if you’re a professional you should be looking at something that’s going to last 5+ years with a big name behind it. So if you’re looking at this and you’re a professional my question would be why? This is also not for the second type of person; the person looking for a home theater setup. It will totally so the job, but for the same price as this and the amp you can get a complete surround sound system with a nice little sub that will do great, it’ll even be name brand if that means anything to you. If you have a huge room and are looking to add something to give some extra oomph to an existing system I’d recommend a Rockville sub instead and treat it like you’re the next person on my list. Who this is for; people that want really loud and great sound for the OCCASIONAL large party. Again, I haven’t had any problems but if you’re pushing this thing all the time it’s probably not gonna last as long as a high end name brand. But if you throw one or two good parties a year and the rest of the time it’ll be turned to a medium for home use, this right here is the absolute best bang for bucks you’re going to find. It’s for people who don’t want to spend 750-1000+ dollars on something smaller. Sure that might sound a little better and be able to play non stop at very high volumes for years, but again if you’re not going to be doing that then why spend that much money? This is a great speaker for non-professionals on a budget that want big sound. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Great speakers for the price.
Style: 12" - 8 Ohm
I added some rubber feet to the end caps on one side so I can lay them sideways and use them as floor monitors when needed. Sound great for the value. Plenty of bass and the highs sound good without being harsh. Of course they're not as nice as some name brands, but still very good, and a fraction the price. I'm powering them with a 600w(rms) amp that seems to get the job done. Not very heavy, but seem well built. I wouldn't get them wet though, as the wood seems kind of cheap. Overall pretty good, I've purchased 2 sets over the years, and they still work fine. ... show more

  • Decent speakers for price
Style: 8" - 8 Ohm
Was initially bitterly disappointed in these as I hooked them up to my amp and they sounded awful. Had a very 'mid-range' frequency sound and very little low end to them. In an effort to get them to be usable, I was boosting the low end significantly and cutting as much as the mixer would let me from about 1Khz on up. After about an hour of running, they started to gradually sound better. I'm not sure if it's because the speaker was cold or stiff from manufacturing or what exactly, but after probably 2 hours they sounded pretty solid. Much more clarity and frequency response, was then able to boost the bottom end and cut the mid range a touch to get a sound I was happy with. Ultimately, for the price, I'll take having to let them 'warm up' on their first run. I ran them for a 2 day event and only during the initial startup did they have poor audio quality. They're decently lightweight and easy to handle. Cages are a little 'weak' in my mind, very easy to dent/bend. ... show more
