The speaker is a solid build and strong performance that is a great addition to any setup however if you’re going to use it with a pro amp make sure you use a good crossover something like 150 hz down and you will be fine. I’m using the 15 with a klipsch 4phm 200 watts rms 400 peak plate amp and it works great for my use because I’m not looking for loud but for solid bass tone and also for my bass guitar on occasion , used for church and home setups , I am doing a edit on this Rockville 15” sub because it’s a bit more involved than just using it for a subwoofer. I have made some changes to the crossover frequency from 150hz . Now I am using it at 45hz to 500 hz with a high frequency cabinet on top at 500 to around 40 k range using it for my guitar rig so even though I will never use the full range of 40k hz it will still work well with my keyboard and bass guitar using this section as my right side while my regular guitar amp is handling the left side , so I am using it as a stereo instrument rig so I can play everything through 1 setup with a set of monitors for playback. Using the Rockville 15 allows me to be versatile along with the Roland AC Edirol FA -66 FireWire and Edirol powered monitors making it a great fit for my needs . This Rockville 15 has several ways to use it and all you need is imagination and the will to make it happen. Now first of all I did not buy this Cabinet for any DJ gigs I AM NOT A DJ, but I am a bass player, yeah I know it's not a bass cab. Per say but I needed a cabinet small enough to fit in a small hole at my church, and it fits perfectly! Now I have several other bass cabs but they all are much to BIG. 4x10, 1x15 Hartke and Peavey 2x18. Now I brought the Rockville 15" 4ohm version. Let me tell you Rockville is true to their name. Tons of low end!!! Don't let the price fool you. Get it ... show more

Don't do it. Thin board causing my top high quality speaker to fall to the ground and cracked my horn. Also sub was just not sounding good. Yes it had plenty of power. It's just not good all the way around.

Ok…so I give the Rockville SBG1154 15” Subwoofer a 3 out of 5. After alterations, I give this sub a 5 out of 5 considering the price point. Why did I choose this Rockville subwoofer? The price met my budget-friendly bass reinforcement objective to go with my MTX TP1200 ThunderPro 12” 2 way PA Loudspeakers. This setup will be used for an outdoor park setting music/dancing/karaoke. Initial impressions? Right out the box, the esthetics and build quality are satisfactory but you get what you pay for when it comes to performance. Connected the Rockville Sub to a Crown XTI 1002 Power Amplifier configured with a 100Hz low pass playing the jazz group Fourplay. Regardless of the lack of an initial break-in period, port noise was very audible along with whistling from the unsealed Speakon and 1/4” terminals. Despite those aforementioned flaws, the Rockville Sub shook the room which let me know that this design has potential…with alterations. What alterations? In my younger days in the ‘90s for a side gig, I designed and built car audio systems including subwoofer enclosures. Through trial, error, and library literature I’d consider myself intermediate with speaker building. I’d consider my alterations educated guesses (because I don’t know Thiele/Small parameters of the subwoofer driver) but the end results exceeded my expectations! Resolving the Speakon and 1/4 terminal whistling noise was quite simple. Use a glob of Caulk on the Speakon terminal from the inside so it can still be used and just fill the 1/4” terminal jack with caulk which would make it unusable (not a big deal to me). I personally like using the Speakon terminal. So the not so easy (but not extremely difficult) alteration is to increase the Area (A=pi x r^2 or A=base x height) of the 3” dual round ports from 7.06in^2 to 9in^2 by going with a 3”x3” square dual ports. This port alteration will yield approximately 4in^2. Therefore I had to increase the dual square 3”x3” port length to approximately 9.5” including the front baffle. I used 1/2” plywood to build the dual square ports and a multi tool to alter the dual round port opening to a square port opening. Used wood glue and 18ga brad nails to secure the square ports. Sanding and/or wood filler and/or caulk was necessary to imperfection alterations. Also filled the subwoofer enclosure with approximately a pound of Acousta-Stuf Polyfill which helps to eliminate standing sound waves that can degrade sound quality. Configuration… Utilizing one channel of the above mentioned Crown Amplifier, Rockville subs are connected in-series for 275W @ 8 ohm load. Set the bass cutoff at 40Hz and low pass at 120. The bass is punchy and clean with outstanding dynamic range! I probably could go 700W at an 2 ohm load which would introduce more distortion but I’m very content with the 8 ohm setup. All in all… This alteration cost me approximately $60 for two Rockville SBG1154 15” Subwoofers and was well worth it…in hindsight sight…lol! I hope this helps 😊 ... show more
